This is beginning to get ridiculous me not being able to get any sewing done… I sure hope I don’t forget how to make doll clothes. I had every intention to get in there today…but my hubby asked for a haircut… (can’t put doll sewing before that). Then he asked if I could mend his socks…he’s only been asking me for about the last 3 weeks… so I had to do it… (can’t put doll sewing before that).
I had to take care of a phone problem at my mom’s and had to do it at HER house… (can’t put doll sewing before that). I had to figure out what I was going to give as a gift for a bridal shower tomorrow… I’ll show you below what I decided on…
The man called about us getting flooring (HALLELUJAH) and he’s coming in the morning at 8:00, so we had to clear out some stuff in our living room sweep the floors, get down any cobwebs, wash the windows, etc. It’s just the first step but I’m so excited!! I’ve been waiting and walking on plywood floors for 13 years!
I have the floor man coming out at 8:00 Saturday morning, then I have the bridal shower at 12:00 and I’ll have to leave it a little before 2:00 as we’re meeting Sara’s mom (my Columbian friend) for her birthday lunch at 2:00. I have a full day so there probably won’t be any sewing tomorrow either. I think this just might be the busiest week I’ve had in a long time… then my sisters and brother are coming in next Tuesday. In the middle of all this I do have some wonderful news… I have something very special to share next week… at least I hope I do! Stay tuned…
Okay, so now on to today’s show and tell… Today, in the mail, I received the most beautiful and delicate lace I may have ever seen… It is a black lace and so sheer and lightweight it’s unreal. Look at these pictures…
I placed it on top of a few different fabrics… just to see the effect. Thank you SO much ___________! I just love it!!!!!
Here we go again… remember a while back Rebecca said, “Mom, why can’t we just buy a gift instead of making something…?” Well, it happened again… I found myself looking at gift cards in Kroger and then my mind flashed to something that I thought would be more creative… Brownies in a Jar for my gift to the bride… They could be saved for some night when they both were craving chocolate and think how fun it would be to make them together! So I stopped looking at gift cards and went to the baking aisle… picked up some pecans and chocolate chips and that was all I needed…oops, I did buy her a new 8×8 pan to bake them in… I thought that might be nice… Two jars will be for the bridal shower and one will be for the birthday girl…
I’ve made them so often it’s pretty quick for me! Decorate the hang tags and then decorate them with some coordinating flowers…that’s the fun part… Here’s a peek at them…

Marilyn wanted to know if I had any more vacation pictures from down at Deb’s… just 2 from an antique shop we went to…It was HUGE!

Nora’s happy with her bodice and necklace — maybe not with her pins. But for now, anticipation is fun, just as it’s fun to be cleaning in anticipation of new flooring. Those pictures are going to be even more fun that the antique showroom. That place is huge.
I love your brownies in a jar. It’s such a good idea to be ready for a chocolate emergency. The tops are a great way to use up the last scraps of your favorite fabrics.
Speaking of favorite fabrics, that lace is now one of mine. You’ll have to think seriously of something worthy of it. Victorian? You are leaving us with a lot of things to look forward to. Will the floors be done tomorrow?
Jeanne, I’m so excited about all the things coming up in your life!! You have an exciting week ahead, and hopefully at the end of the week, things will be back to normal. I do have to say, that I can’t believe your floors will be done tomorrow, like Marilyn was asking!! As someone who had flooring done recently, I can tell you that won’t be the case, unless it is getting installed today. But real wood has to sit out a few days to acclimate to the air. And you have to move everything out of the room too! That’s a job right there!
What gorgeous lace! I love how it looks over any or all of the fabrics! I can’t wait to see what you will use it for!
The brownie mixes are so cute and make darling gifts! I love the way you decorated the jars with flowered material along with the flowers! And you used your new screen! I’m sure it will be quite a versatile item for you to use for many of the things you make. How nice that you didn’t get some sort of “list” that a lot of brides and new moms have now for you to pick from for gifts! You know, those “registry” things. They certainly don’t allow for fun surprise gifts like this will be!
Sharing in the gift of the lace, the making and decorating of the brownie jars and antique shop photos…well, we’re so blessed that we have you as our friend who takes us on so many journeys.
I’m so glad the process of getting new floors is starting. That’s another blessing for us to share with you. I’m so happy for you.

The “brownies in a jar” is a perfect gift. Very clever and it will certainly be appreciated by those receiving them. Love how you did the jar lids. Just beautiful.
I went to Hobby Lobby looking for those window screens. I had a salesgirl helping me and it looks like they don’t have them anymore. I did find a little wooden stool that will look cute next to Kit’s blue stove though.
Nora’s dress can wait and the anticipation with be worth it. Have a nice weekend!
Outstanding lace. My favorite is over the pink, but I can see that it would be lovely in so many ways. I don’t think I would have thought of it as an overlay, why I don’t know. But, you did and it is amazing.
Loved seeing the antique store goodies. In the sea of old couches, second row back, I spy what looks to be a vintage settee and two chairs. This looks like something perfect for your sister to work on. You know, some paint and new upholstery. 🙂
So exciting to visualize your new flooring. Can’t wait to see samples and progress. And only you would wash windows prior to having work done. Ours are in dire need of cleaning and no new floors in sight here.

I’m thinking I better make one comment here while I have a few minutes to myself. The man came out to talk to us about our flooring… it wasn’t great news…when you own an 1892 house, you can expect the floors to be somewhat uneven but ours were pretty bad…we don’t notice them too much because we’ve walked on them for 13 years…but he sure did.
We can get some kind of liquid leveler that is poured on the floor and runs to the low spots…some of it would be an inch thick…that’s also where our AC/heat vent is…ugh…or they can put down an underlayment in wood to try and correct the ridge through the middle of the floor. George got out his sander/planer and started working on getting it knocked down if he could…instead, he got 2 splinters in his hands! Ugh again…
We could get carpeting but I don’t want carpet… the vinyl planks have a locking piece on them and our floor is too uneven for it to work. They can glue a linoleum down but the floor still has to be leveled…somehow…
So it’s back to square one…no real solutions from today’s vidit…
The brial shower was “going” to be nice, but the friend who picked up the bride was late getting her, so I had to leave to go to Alba’s birthday lunch before much went on…
We had a nice time with their family, as we always do…she loved her Brownies in a jar, and we also gave her a gift certificate to Cool Spoons.”
I’m going to see if I can sneak in my sewing room and get some sewing done…I think I can…I think I can…

I had planned for the floor to be an easier to solve problem, but having an 1892 house is worth a lot. The problems are worth it. Between you and Cindy and your computer and George’s fix-it ability and sources like This Old House journal and Arts and Crafts and the Revival magazine and books at your library, this should be something you can figure out. Don’t forget the books on Amazon. If you find something that seems useful, go to your local library and ask them to InterLibraryLoan (ILL) a bunch of them. This is usually a free service for within the United States. World wide takes longer, but inside the US is probably your best choice.

Seeing what they do to solve problems might be useful. Besides, it looks like they might give George a free tee shirt.
Also check out anything you are considering for toxins and carcinogens. There is a major flooring source that uses formaldehyde on or in some of their products. That can cause health problems that you don’t need.
You could also go to the nearest Home Depot or Lowe’s and check out their magazine section or go to a nearby huge bookstore if you have one and check out the home building and repair sections in both the book and magazine sections to see what looks useful.
Also ask your list of blog subscribers. People will have good ideas.

You wrote so much and gave so many ideas, I hate to tell you, but this is one project George wanted to hire done… we’ve put in all the windows, (18 of them) 2 doors, rewired the house, finished 2 bathrooms from top to bottom, added a rubber roof on part of the house, put new plumbing in most of the house, etc, etc, but George didn’t think he could do this flooring on his titanium knees comfortably, and he’d really like it to be done as soon as possible. He really is tired of all those splinters in his feet…
We subscribe to Handyman and we’ve been doing our research online about what we need to know on our part to make a good decision… We have to go back to Lowe’s and pick out 4 samples for the 4 choices the man is giving us an estimate on… glue down planks, glue down linoleum, click and lock vinyl planks and carpeting… I hope we go to Lowe’s tomorrow as I’d like to look at it all again… It’s hard to tell anything from a 2″ sample online… I need to see it in person and touch it…
You can bet I’ll keep you posted on our progress…

I forgot to say to look through back issues of things like Fine Homebuilding online. You can often buy back issues if they look really good, or, even better, ILL copies of specific articles. You’ll need author, title of article, title of magazine or journal, issue and volume numbers, and page numbers. This is not always free. Check to find out when you ILL your first books. Magazines are seldom lent by libraries because of the replacement problem, but photocopies of most articles are available.
