I am still in Missouri but heading home Thursday. We came to my brother in law and sister in laws house to visit and see if we (mostly my hubby) could help with anything.
My hubby is P-R-E-T-T-Y handy at just about anything he touches; whether it be electrical, plumbing, carpentry, yard work, working with chickens, cows, tree work…yep ladies…I wound up with McGyver….really I did….so as I sit here in Missouri, away from my computer and any of my pictures, I had to come up with a post for tomorrow so I just have a question to ask you and this is what popped into my mind.
If you could hire my hubby for one home project, what would it be? (He has been known to work for brownies too!)
We’ll get back to dolls and sewing pretty soon!
Thanks everyone,
Blessings, Jeanne
My yard looks pretty good, but I think my house’s electrical system could use some upgrading. While George was doing that, he’d find so many other projects that needed doing that we’d need a notebook. He would be so glad to get back home that he’d think your house projects were a picnic. Or you could come too and help me move books. Then you’d both go home thinking how wonderful your house is.
Hi Marilyn,
George has done some pretty big wiring jobs so I’m sure he could handle yours…and he loves to help some of the widows in our church…asking them about things they’d like to have fixed. One lady who has arthritis in her fingers really bad, even asked him to open her jars for her. So, see, he’ll do anything! :o)

Had to think about this Jeanne, since you wanted only one project. Well, we bought a new and pretty mailbox post to replace the one that is now listing to the right, but my hubby hasn’t quite found the time to do it. How would that work? And, you know, you aren’t THAT far away!!!!!!
I had to laugh about Marilyn saying you would both go home thinking about how wonderful your own house is!! You both would probably think that about here too, you are so used to big yards, and we have only 1/3rd of an acre!
Did you get stuck in the rain this morning? We had a big storm early this morning, lightning, thunder and rain, but we really needed that! Safe travels back to Illinois from your Missouri friend!
Hi Linda,
George just fixed my mom’s mailbox post…so I’m sure he could do yours! :o)
Yes, we got that storm here at their house. In fact, the wind was so strong, George woke up in the middle of the night and the kitchen door had blown open! They have had 2 storms go through in the last couple of weeks and even a tornado took the roof off of a church here in town. Their house actually had a big section of shingles blow off, along with some hail damage so they are getting a new roof put on in a few weeks.
We will be heading home shortly!
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
I am lucky enough to have my own McGyver so there really aren’t any jobs. So, instead I think we would maybe get together and have a nice meal and spend some time talking in your pretty yard. I bet we could talk about dolls and sewing and the guys could swap stories about fixing cars and houses and such.
Safe travels!
Take care.
Hi Charlotte,
Oh goody, aren’t those McGyver’s wonderful??
Glad you have one of your own!
Yes, visiting would be very fun and I enjoy that very much!
We’ll be back home later today!
Blessings, Jeanne
We’re pretty handy around here, but the one thing that needs attention is the jungle of brush that has taken over the back yard. Blackberry has crept over the fence and way into the yard. It’s also blooming right now, so there would be the honey bees to deal with. I do believe there are also a couple of yellow jacket nests somewhere out there under the mess. I forgot to add, the privit bushes that have appeared and are now 6ft high. Underneath it all are some lovely flowers, brick pathways, raised beds, and a drip system. Old age has gotten in the way of gardening. Help George! Just kidding. We’re about to hire someone to clear it all.
Hi Joy,
He cleared out a friend’s “jungle” last summer and talked to her a few days ago about cleaning it up again… he’s been stung more times than he cares to remember, so your “project” might get moved to the bottom of the list…sorry Joy!

My dad and step-dad were both able to fix or do anything, but they are gone now. I long for those days. LOL My electrical system needs a through check and I am trying to figure out how to get that done. Electricians are really expensive. but the project that I would truly want to hire your husband for would be a floor to ceiling until to display my dolls in rooms! What fun that would be.
Hi Kathleen,
I was reading everyone’s comments to my hubby as we are traveling back home and he smiled at yours…something inside, something creative and obviously something that would bring you great joy!
Blessings, Jeanne
Hi Jeanne,
It’s so very kind of you to help out at your inlaws. I pray for safe travels home.
It’s nice of you to lend out your hubby …. wonder if he knows what you are getting him into.. LOL It’s really really hard to pick just one project but I’ve narrowed it down to something thats been bugging me for 3 years…. Harley Davis our black lab used our kitchen floor as a chew toy when he was a puppy. He didn’t just stick to one area, the whole floor needs replacing. Seeing how my hubby has hung up his tool belt for good I could really use your McGyver!
Hugs and Gods speed
Ingrid
PS. Every one of those blue dresses gets two thumbs up from me
Hi Ingrid,
A new floor, huh? ME TOO! That’s on my list too! I like your dogs name…Hatley Davis! :o)
Thank you Ingrid,
Blessings, Jeanne
Hmmm? Thinking,…… Well, my son is very helpful for basic home repairs, and I have a gadget for opening those tight jars. We have been able to see some of George’s skillful handiwork through your blog, Jeanne, and we know that he is capable of almost anything. I DO adore his chickens and their coop, but I wouldn’t want to take care of them. So, I think what I would really love is a beautiful gazebo like you have in your backyard. A wonderful outdoor gathering place would be so lovely, and you and George would be my first guests for a garden party. What a dream that would be. Safe travels home, Jeanne!
Hi Anne,
I was reading all of your comments to my hubby on our way home, and he said I have highly exaggerated his abilities. I don’t personally think so but he said also there’s the ambition factor that needs to be added in there. About your gazebo, he would say, I’m not a finish Carpenter, I’m a rough Carpenter…
Thanks Anne,
This was fun…
Blessings, Jeanne
My garage is full of a lifetime of “stuff.” Have to do something about it, but it is quite a daunting task. Apparently I don’t “need” any of the stuff, so what am I waiting for? George to help out? I’d better get on it. I’m relinquishing my request to new floors for your house.
Hi Susette,
I guess I better get George on that plane to California right away…
Awwww…you get a new floor and I will too!
I don’t know if you are still in WV, but if you are, I hope you are having lots of fun!
Thanks Susette,
Blessings, Jeanne
My grandfather was that way. He could fix anything and was a trained horticulturalist. He was the manager of a garden store and did all the grafting etc. for the owner. He immigrated from Germany so, he also imported German ornament etc from there. This was in the 1940’s when those things were rare to see here. He also electrified a handmade mower long, long before that existed. Well, I would hire George to screen in the front porch. I mean make it a three season room with windows that could be glass or screen. We have a sunroom, but sometimes it would be nice to sit out front without fear of mosquitoes. I agree with Joy, that the backyard is a never ending battle. We gotten a terrible crop of poison ivy that has sprung up in two places, by the fish pond and down at the far corner where the pussy willows and pine is. We are having someone come to clear it as I am terribly allergic. My grandfather was also able to pull up poison ivy with his bare hands and never ever got the rash.
Hi Laura,
Your grandfather sounds wonderful and someone my German hubby would loved to have talked with.
I have always loved screened in porches too.
George’s sister had a screened in porch and it was wonderful.
I hope you get that poison ivy removed…
Thanks Laura,
Blessings, Jeanne
I am blessed to have a very handy hubby too. He will tackle almost anything…but we both keep too much. We need another spot for our hose…it is long but is a pain to Rollup after stretching it out to reach every part of the yard. Is George a plumber too?.
Hi Kathie,
Oh wonderful…another McGyver!
YES…he’s a super plumber…you should see his plumbing stash…it might rival my fabric stash…well maybe not quite…
Thanks Kathie,
Blessings, Jeanne
It’s such a blessing to have a handy husband. Mine is like that too so I don’t really need anything fixed. Bill works as a scheduler, so he’s also good at prioritizing everything that needs to be done and keeping it on the list until it’s finished. The schedulers use what is called a “two-day look ahead” to let all the craftspeople know which jobs are coming up, so when I want to know what his plans are for the weekend, I ask him what’s on his two-day look ahead. It’s a joke between us.
I hope your visit was enjoyable and you arrived home safely!
HI Carolyn,
My hubby is a prioritizer/administrator too… I think he got it from his dad, who had notes all over his house, to make sure he got things accomplished. My hubby just does his on lists, so it’s better. I look at his lists too, like you, to see what he’ll (and sometimes what “I’ll” be doing).
We got home a little while ago and I need to make a list for myself…big time!
Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
