I’ve been having too much fun with my sisters and mom and thought I might have to pretend this was another Sunday, but I decided I could surely find “something” to write about.
We didn’t go to any thrift stores or antique shops or estate sales, so I don’t have any “treasures” to show you. We went clothes shopping and I’m certainly not going to show you our fashion show we put on. At my mom’s, we cleaned out closets and drawers and sorted through pictures, and even helped her spend some money on a new couch and love seat. We went to Panera’s twice, had salads most every day, went to Kohl’s, Macy’s, and TJ Maxx more times than I care to tell you. :o) Cindy mowed her grass while Deb and I baked chocolate chip cookies (without eating a single one!!!)
We scrubbed showers, did laundry, bought new groceries, and did crossword puzzles… and did crossword puzzles…oops…did I just say that? Well, let’s just say we did them every night… we can laugh and carry on over a silly clue like you can’t imagine…
My sisters took a peek at the chicks and I thought, “My goodness, that can be my post!” It’s not the best one ever, but it’s better than a “blank Sunday”- don’t you think? We’ll get back to sewing very soon… Rebecca never made Addy’s necklace… but she will…
Here’s Little Bit… still the littlest one in the bunch, but growing up somewhat…
(I’m really hoping she’s a she….please don’t turn out to be a rooster…)
The bigger hens are the first ones we started out with and the largest one in the second batch we got…
Here’s a group shot of them…
Now I want to show you this little one with the curly feathers. We haven’t figured out what kind she is… but she sure is strange looking. I think it looks like she has wood shavings for feathers. They go all the way down on her feet. Even when she was a tiny little chick, we noticed her wing feathers were sticking out…
She’s really different, isn’t she?
Well, that’s going to be it… My sisters are leaving in the morning and I’ll be thinking more about dolls and sewing than I have been for the last 5 days or so. Thanks for waiting…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a cute post today, Jeanne! I LOVE chickens, and we always had some when I was growing up in the country. On our recent outing to Branson, chickens seemed to be the theme at Silver Dollar City, and I bought a cute dish towel with chickens on it to hang on my stove handle. Chickens certainly do have personalities, and we gave a lot of them names. That last little chick with the curly feathers will be one to watch for sure!
Guess what, Jeanne? AG is going to stop making dolls with the perma-panties due to customer complaints about them! They listened! Also they are going to go back to boxes for the outfits versus the crazy way they were sewing clothes into cardboard backing.
I’m so happy about that!
I forgot , in my haste to write this morning, that it certainly looks like you and your sisters got a LOT of things done, and I’m sure you all feel like you accomplished what you set out to do—-and had fun doing it! I’m so happy you all could do that for your mother, and I hope she knows she has a great group of daughters!
Hi Linda,
I’m glad it was okay to talk about baby chicks today…and it’s fun that I found out what little curly is…a Frizzle Bantam…sometimes called a Frizzled Bantam. Chicken themed stuff is pretty polar around here too!
What great news about AG listening to their customers! It’s about time…it’s nice to know the permapanties are a thing of the past!…and very good news about the outfits and the way they are packaged!
Thanks for letting us know, Linda.
Blessings, Jeanne
It certainly warmed my heart that you shared how you and your sisters so lovingly came
together to demonstrate love in action. Having lost my dear Mother three years ago and being the sole survivor in my immediate family, it means alot for a family to join together to clean your Mother’s home, closets, drawers, bathrooms, etc. That is an unspeakable
blessing that you all gave to your Mother. You gave it now when your Mother needed it most and so that she can enjoy the clean home, the mowed grass and the cookies and the precious time with her girls. 🙂
Hi Laureen,
There’s something nice, too, about cleaning, sorting, cooking, and organizing, thst is much more fun when done in numbers! We worked, but had fun too…we even went back to Kohl’s one last time…Oh and Panera’s one last time too…but now they’re gone…
Thank you Laureen,
Blessings, Jeanne
Isn’t that curly-feathered chicken just darling! So glad you had such a nice time and got so much done. Have a great rest of your visit and some rest, too.
Hi Susette,
My sisters just left and now I must sew if I’m ever going to get Addy’s dress listed!
We did have lots of fun… REST….what’s that?
The little curly feathered hen is called a Frizzle Bantam….
Thanks Susette,
Blessings, Jeanne
So, how’s the pecking order going? They aren’t picking on Little Bit are they? or the one with the curly feathers? They are so cute.
Glad you got to do some shopping and catch up with family.
Hard to believe next weekend is Memorial Day. Time flies.
Hi Joy,
The bigger hens sometimes pecked on the same size hens as themselves, but I didn’t notice too much pecking going on with the little ones…Little Bit has the loudest cheep of them all…I’m really hoping “she’s” not a rooster! My hubby says maybe by next week he’ll be able to tell.
Rhe little curly feathered one is called a Frizzle Bsntam” as discovered by Deborah. I love her even more now that I know what kind she is.
Thanks Joy,
Blessings, Jeanne
These chicks are so cute! I Googled your unusual chick and think it may be a Fizzled Bantam. The site I found said it is “the diva of the chicken world.” How fun.
Thank you for googling our curly feathered chick! You are right and she is a Frizzled Bantam! I’ve looked at all sorts of pictures, now and can’t wait till my hubby comes in to tell him! He’s never had that kind before…it must have been a fluke chick in the pen, because when we bought them, there was no mention of their kind!
Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
I’m glad to hear that everyone is having such a good visit! It sounds like you were having fun and being productive.
The chickens are darling. You can really tell the difference in age between the younger and older ones. The older ones are clearly looking more chicken-like while the younger ones are still in their fluffy stage.
Hope you have a good day.
Take care.
Hi Charlotte,
It is kind of fun to see the various stages of the chicks now. Some of them are in their “ugly” stage and others are still cute.
My sisters just left and are heading back home.we had a very fun time as well as getting some much needed things done.
I’m ready to get back to my sewing and hope I’m in a sewing mood because I sure need to be!
Thanks Charlotte,
Blessings, Jeanne
You’ll miss your sisters, but they’ll be back. It’s nice to have that to look forward to. Your mother did a great job of raising all of you to like each other — that was a huge gift.
The chickens are always great fun. I looked up “fizzled bantam” and the suggested alternate, “frizzled bantam,” and they appear to be the same thing, though there may be some difference an expert could point out immediately. The pictures are wonderful and not at all alike. You are going to enjoy having this chicken.
The chickens are adorable! Love the Diva, Curly Belle! Please post posts of her as she grows..:)
So happy you and your sisters are spending quality (and cleaning and backing) time with each other!
Hi Shara,
Since finding out what kind of little hen the curly one is, a Frizzzled Bantam, I LOVE the name you came up with and we are going to call her Curly Belle! I think it fits her perfectly.
Oh, I’ll definitely keep you posted as she grows!
Cleaning isn’t necessarily fun, but when all 3 of us do it, it’s kind of!!!
Thanks Shara,
Blessings, Jeanne
It looks like “fizzle bantam” and “frizzle bantam” (without the “d” I added above) are also commonly used terms among people for whom knowledge of chicken breeds is common.
Hi Marilyn,
I’m so excited to know what she is and can’t wait for Geroge to get home to tell him…he’ll love it as I’ve never heard him talk about “Frizzles” before.
Thanks Marilyn,
Blessings, Jeanne
It is heart-warming to hear about your weekend. That is certainly a family ideal … one I never had (no sisters) but one I have day-dreamed about.
I like your chickens. Our city allows them but the HOA for my house does not. I always worry about them hurting one another. (My daughter says that I am a worry wart, and that I am contagious. LOL) My neighbors still had chickens and I used to feed them bugs through the fence. I also gave them fresh water when I watered the garden flowers.
This post was just so much fun to read. Thank you. Great start to the week.
Hi Kathleen,
Sorry you missed out on the “sister thing” because it’s a lot of fun… at least it is for us… we get a long great and wish we lived closer but maybe we cherish the times more we are together more than most do.
I’m glad you liked my little chicken chat today..it was either that or nothing… :o)
Thanks so much!
Blessings, Jeanne
What a fun time you are having with your sisters. Lucky you!! I always wished I had a sister or two. Unfortunately, I’m an only child.
Your chickens are doing well. Little Bit is adorable. I also like the chicken with the feathered feet. I googled chickens with feathers on their feet and maybe she/he is a Cochin.
Enjoy your day!!
HI Laura,
I’m sorry you missed out on the sister thing too. We always have a lot of fun together no matter what we do!
I’m sure when my hubby gets home and I tell him the little bit I’ve learned from on here, he’ll have me looking up this and that to learn more about them. Shara mentioned Curly Belle so that’s what this one is going to be called! Isn’t that cute?
Thanks Laura,
Blessings, Jeanne
P.S. Oh, you’ll have to read Linda’s post up at the top…no more AG Permapanties! AG listened!
I don’t know much about chickens, but that one with the curly feathers is really cute. I’m glad you’re able to spend some time with your sisters. I love Panera Bread and eat lunch there often. Good job on cleaning out drawers and closets at your mom’s. It’s a big job that I’m sure she can’t manage on her own. I’m sure she loves having her three girls there! I tried to comment earlier but didn’t have my glasses on and have know idea what button I pushed. Lol.
Hi Carolyn,
We’re going to call that little curly feathered chick Curly Belle…doesn’t that sound cute? Shara thought of it and it stuck!
My sisters and I did have a great time and I’m a little lost without them now…we got so much accomplished and my mom was very happy with her new cleaned up spaces!
Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
It was fun to read about all your activities with your sisters and your mom. I only have one brother, no sisters (although my best friend was one of five girls–I always thought she was so lucky!!), so I was the only one to do the “homey” things for my folks, and mostly for my dad (mom spent the last five years of her life in an adult care home–she had dementia), and after he died, I was the one who did all the sorting thru things, etc., and, after the house was empty, I was the one who cleaned the oven and the fridge, scrubbed the floors, washed the walls, etc. My brother didn’t understand why–“the new owners will just change it all anyway”–but I knew mom wouldn’t want the house left dirty for new owners. When I was a kid, each time we moved (daddy was a pastor, so there were several moves) she always made sure the parsonage was left in spic-and-span order. (My own house should be that clean!! )
HI Charlotte,
Cleaning is just something that needs to be done when you move…I totally agree with you… and not your brother. How very sweet of you to do all that by yourself just because you knew it was the right thing to do. Every time my sister or sisters come, we do a little bit more to get my mom’s house in order. I have been doing the paperwork and finances stuff. We just got all her bills so they are paid online…it’s one less thing she has to deal with… (and us worry about!)
Thanks Charlotte, Don’t miss out on today’s giveaway…
