First things first: Tonight (Saturday) my dress for your Kirsten dolls ends on Ebay. It is the blue dress with the pink bonnet. You can see it by clicking on the picture at the right side bar or click the link below…
…and just a reminder picture…

Now to today… (I generally write my posts the night before…)
I slept until 10:30 this morning and when I got up, my hubby had gone to Walmart. You’ll never guess who came to my door today? The Fed Ex man! Yes, and I was in my nightgown again, no sweatpants this time, the same “homeless sweater,” the same ratty hair… and I had to open the door because my son, Kristoffer, had texted me yesterday saying he had ordered some things but was having them sent to our address. I sat the box on the table and thought it was for him… but I saw my name on it…
So, I opened it! I couldn’t believe it, but someone; one of my readers again, had sent me the cutest First Aid/Get Well gift. It was this heavy red metal cabinet with a glass door with a medical cross etched in the glass and I could see a tiny key that you could actually lock it. Through the glass I could see things on the shelf but I had to open it up to see them better. I don’t know where some of you find these things!
Inside was chicken noodle soup, Fuji water, a package of tea (somehow the tea got left out of my pics), some yummy Island (Trail) Mix), Jelly Beans, Cherry Sours and Lemon drops, a cute holder of bandaids and an ice bag for “hangovers.” (I’ve never had a hangover before, but if this headache I’ve had for 3 days is anything like one, no thank you!)
It is just the cutest little box and even has screws so you can hang it up on the wall if you like. Thank you _________ so much!
Talk about being humbled… I am and was again today. The kindness you all have shown me is over the top. I don’t deserve this attention and care. It has made me realize just how special friends are and I am TRULY BLESSED.
I was feeling kind of overwhelmed by your kindnesses and asked my hubby if I should share this gift today, since I just received the flowers yesterday, and he said, “sure go ahead, just call your post today, “And the blessings keep coming” so I did… May YOU ALL be blessed by your sweet words and comments and emails you shared with me over the last few days. Around 8:00 tonight I started to feel like things were breaking up and I was going to make it. This really has been the worst “cold” I’ve ever had. It knocked me for a loop.
At about 9:00 I ventured into my sewing room to take the pictures for this post and decided I should give you and update on the Civil War dress. No…nothing has been started on it, but I thought I’d share my ideas…
The light colored fabric was the most popular from the emails and the comments… It really is pretty in person, and it’s very soft, which it needs to be for what I’d like to do with it. I drug out some of my vintage laces and laid them on the fabric and was just playing around for a little while.
Here are a couple of pictures of what I’d like to turn this dress into! Well, they might be more of inspirational pictures. I’m not real fond of off the shoulder dresses for the American Girl dolls since they have the vinyl arms and necks but a cloth body, so it might be more of a boat neck style dress. I was just dreaming about what it could be since it’s been a few days since I did any “doll dreaming” at all!
So, how’s that for a post? Okay? I hope so!
I’ll see you Monday morning, hopefully, all well, all rested and back in my sewing room!
Blessings, Jeanne
That’s a wonderful and unexpected present. I’m glad you are starting to feel better. The headache has got to go.
You must be getting better if you are back in the sewing room, designing and thinking about trims and double ruffles, even if you aren’t ready to sew. Looking at the pictures, I’m definitely for lace decorative headpieces, and I see at the bottom of the lowest picture a reference to short gloves, and you have those ready to go.
I’m glad to hear that the rain is finally ending in your part of the world. That too will make you feel better. We are expecting some, but not like yours.
Keep making progress. Get well presents are lovely but feeling good is better.
HI Marilyn,
It WAS a wonderful present and those Jelly Beans and Cherry Sours are really good! I think they might be little “medicine” pills because my headache is going away slowly… maybe I should eat more…ya think?
It did feel a little funny being in my sewing room last night. It was almost like a strange room to be in.. but I hope to get reacquainted soon…
Feeling good is wonderful… and so easily taken for granted…
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh Jeanne, I’m feeling your pain! I now am under the weather after babysitting yesterday, so will have to take it easy today. What a great gift you received, and just looking at it makes me feel better too! You have really inspired us all to be more loving and caring to others. Just look how we are caring for you!
Oh, the illustrations are just lovely for the dress, and I can’t wait to see what you pick out! Back to bed for me!
OH Linda,
I’m so sorry you are sick now… did you catch something from Will? I just prayed that your sickness leaves as quickly as it came… you have too many people depending on you to be sick.
I am inspired myself, to do more for others too… it isn’t that hard and it means so much to the person who is on the receiving end.
I can’t wait to see what happens with the dress either… I guess we’re both in for a surprise!
Blessings and hugs to you,
~ Jeanne
Oh Linda, do please nip this in the bud and take it easy! I hate to think another reader would come down with “the crud.” Jeanne seems to have the formula for a cure now: Chicken noodle soup for lunch, jelly beans for dessert, and lemon drops for cough! ; 0) Prayers and well-wishes to you!
Good morning Jeanne,
What a clever and neat idea for a gift…your own personal first aid kit! It is so cute besides being useful.
Oh the Civil War dress possibility is beautiful. The laces will look perfect with the material.
I like the top picture, top lace with the material. It’s loops look similar to the loop design on the material, at least to me. I love it.
More than anything, I hope you are truly feeling better. Don’t force yourself to return back to the sewing room to soon. Take care and rest up!!
P.S. May I have Lian’s face number if you don’t mind. I wanted to let Magalie know which doll face I wanted and wasn’t sure which one Lian is. I compared pictures of Lian from your post while looking at the Little Darling faces but couldn’t tell between two of her doll faces. Her face numbers may be different than Dianne’s, I’m not sure. Thank you, Jeanne.
HI Paula,
I know…isn’t that the most fun gift idea? I think after all the things are used out of it, I can fill it up with all my first aid things and it will be nice and orderly and pretty too!
That loopy lace was the first one I picked out so it’s probably going to be used on the dress somewhere. I think I’m going to soak it in some downy or some kind of detergent to soften it up. I think it’s be starched to hold it’s shape and I’d like it to be more soft and flexible…
My Lian was painted by Joyce Mathews and the sculpt is the #2 version… with the more squinty eyes. I can send you a close up picture of her face that you could send to Magalie if you like. I haven’t looked on Magalie’s site with her doll pictures on it to see which ones you are referring to. I will just email you a picture or two of Lian when I finish your comment.
Oooo… I guess Lian might be getting a cousin, huh? :o)
Thanks Paula,
Blessings, Jeanne
Yeah for feeling better, a thoughtful friend and pretty fabric and laces and creative ideas. You have a good start to the weekend, Jeanne. Take care.
Blessings.
HI Becky,
Yes, it feels to up and vertical again and I hope it stays this way for a while. More soup and Jelly Beans! :o)
I might not have been able to sew, but my brain was still thinking dolly dresses!
Thank you Becky,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a welcome first aid kit! You have a very creative and kind friend.
This dress fabric just screams for lace. Love the choices. The design process is so interesting to view too.
Now don’t overdo and continue on your wellness trek.
HI Joy,
I loved that first aid kit too! I’m going to think outside the box next time I have to give a gift to someone!
I thought the same thing about this fabric… lace, lace and more lace! Now to get it all pulled together…
I won’t overdo it… It’s an easy peezy day for me today… I did take a shower and wash my hair, and I actually have clothes on! Wonder of wonders! :o)
Thank you Joy,
Blessings, Jeanne
You ARE better. I know I’m on the way back when I wash my hair.
Yep, clean hair always makes you feel better…
What a fun and useful get well soon gift! I’m very glad you are beginning to feel better.
I loved seeing your ideas for the new dress. You have such beautiful laces! I especially like the top one in the first picture, the loopy one, best. Like Paula said, it seems to duplicate the skirt design. It looks like it would be one of the more difficult to attach though. I’m sure whichever one you chose, it will be the best one. You have an amazing eye for design.
I hope you continue to feel better. Don’t do too much though too quick.
Have a good day.
Take care.
HI Charlotte,
I won’t be doing too much… I have no strength, but it’s nice to have clean hair and clothes on!
I’m glad you liked the top loopy lace too…that was the first one I picked out, so I think it will be used somewhere on the dress.
Thank you for your compliments on my “sewing skills”… I just sew what I know! And Civil War dresses are one of my very favorites so this should be fun to make…
Blessings, Jeanne
Love your little box of “medicines”. I love cute, clever gifts like that. The labels are adorable.
Looking forward to seeing Addy’s dress come to life. I also love the top loopy lace and the bows would be a great touch. A pair of your new, shorter lace gloves would be perfect.
Stay warm and eat soup and “take your medicines”. We’re dropping back into the 30’s this weekend ugh! Just when things have leafed out.
Hi Laura,
I love fun gifts like this too! I had chicken noodle soup for lunch, jelly beans for dessert and lemon drops for my cough.
I think Addy’s dress will be pretty…and hope I can pull it all together…
Thank you Laura,
Blessings, Jeanne
Glad some of your “medicines” seem to be working, Jeanne, or at least making you smile! And since “cleanliness is next to Godliness,” at least your spirit is in the right place with clean hair and clothes! ; 0) Seriously, I think “conquering the crud” had a lot to do with all the good hopes and powerful prayers of all those who love you! : 0) Sending continued well wishes for a complete recovery! Please do take it slowly.
Addy’s “beginnings” are lovely, Jeanne. The fabric is light and delicate, and I, too, am a fan of the “loopy lace.” I adore the double skirt with bows, as well as the layered ruffle sleeves. The lace headpiece with flowers has that “Southern Charm,” and a pair of your shorter lace gloves would be sweet and lady-like. As always, I look forward to seeing your design process. it always promises a surprise or two for us! Have a restful weekend, Jeanne!
Hi Anne,
I have nibbled on jelly beans, cherry sours and lemon drops all day. It did feel wonderful to take that shower and wash my hair! I certainly do appreciate all those prayers and good wishes!!!
That loopy lace was one that Cindy sent me and I’m so glad she did. It will be nice to use on Addy’s dress. I’m glad the illustration showed those short gloves because I wanted to use a pair…
Thank you Anne,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a wonderful surprise to brighten your day!! Love it!!
Love seeing the various laces with that lovely fabric, too. I think my favorite is the “big-loopy” one at the top in the first picture, although the tatted one would look nice, too. The others just seem too “modern” and too “white-white” to me (although that could just be how they are showing in the picture.
Continue feeling better!!!
