Addy’s “Southern Charm” gets a few more pieces….

I didn’t want to disappoint you with only a few things to show, but even though they are small, I think you’l be pleased!

I certainly hope you aren’t sick of Addy’s dress…seeing it every day for quite a few days now… I’m almost finished and soon it will be listed on Ebay…although I’m running into a little crunch time problem… today I was up on the roof doing some painting to help my hubby out when he did that “flex seal” job a few weeks ago, then he needed his hair trimmed, and I had to paint the inside trim around a window… (Saturday Reuben jumped at a bird he saw and shattered our dining room window… fortunately my hubby had saved one of the old windows we used to have where we replaced our front door.) I have to help my hubby with the trim mowing tomorrow, as we are having his sister and her hubby come in on Friday, and it’s supposed to rain on Wednesday or Thursday. I am taking Bithar (my friend from Haiti) to meet her new doctor on Wednesday…she’s having a baby! Actually she’s 26 weeks along, but I’m just now telling you. I went to her ultrasound last week and she’s having a little girl! :o) My sisters are coming on Wednesday too. YAY! Thursday we have to pick up a new mattress… I’ll also want to spend every waking moment I can with my sisters… so HOW am I going to get this dress listed? Maybe I could stay awake the whole week and do it… bad idea, I know… :o) I’ll figure something out…

Let’s just talk about what I managed to finish.

I changed those little pink beads on her sleeves to little flowers…from this…

…to this… much better I think!

I tea dyed a pair of gloves to match the vintage lace on her dress…

I found a scrap of a vintage collar and made Addy a sweet lace cap from it. I just gathered and trimmed and made a bow and tacked it on and this is how it turned out… I wanted to see if could find some tiny little flowers to send along with the winner. I had some but they were the wrong color. I tucked them in the loopy part of her cap and they were like sprigs sticking out of her hair…it was cute but I needed a different flower than what I had.

So here is the overall look so far…

Oh, one more thing… Sweet Susette sent me a parasol in the mail and it’s adorable… she emailed me as it was en-route letting me know it was too big, but she sent it anyway. I’m determined to figure out a way to use it… maybe as a market umbrella that Addy’s standing under… probably not for this dress set, but I have future hopes for it. Isn’t it just beautiful? If it had just been half the size… boo hoo…

Well, I better go… I think I need all the sleep I can get…especially this week.

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Some weeks are busier than others. This one definitely sounds like one of those. If you have to take a couple of extra days away from sewing while your sisters are here, will Addy mind having to spend a couple of extra days in that dress? Not one bit.

The hairpiece is lovely, as all of us knew it would be. The gloves are perfect — no surprise there. The pearls on the sleeves go nicely with the ones on the gloves. We are waiting in suspense for the necklace. The umbrella, whether it fits with this outfit or not, is perfectly splendid — I’m so glad we got to see it and we’ll look forward to what you think of to go with it.

What a nice surprise about Bithar’s baby — a baby! And a girl! She’ll be lovely and smart, and have dual citizenship, won’t she?

Your mother will be happy seeing your sisters. So will you. You always manage to get a lot done while they are here and have fun besides. You’ll have lots to talk about and lots to blog about, and maybe you’ll find some solutions. We’ll all enjoy their visit.

    1. Hi Marilyn,
Yes, some weeks ARE busier than others and this just happens to be my week! I have decided my sewing will be the thing that, sorry to say, gets put on the back burner… I sure don’t want to be sewing or listing or photographing dolls when my sisters are here… it’s too rare when they are both here together. I’ll find other things to talk about…
Rebecca said she would make Addy’s necklace tonight… Yay!

The umbrella truly is splendid and a perfect match! It’s very pretty and I wish I could shrink it. I’ve even looked at seeing if I could take the battenburg lace apart and make it smaller… I don’t want to bother it though. It’s very pretty! If that company made them in AG size, they’d sell a million!

Bithar was thinking it was a boy so she was in shock when they said a girl!

We are all excited about getting together… it’ll be fun, fun, fun!
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. You’ve a busy week, Jeanne but full of such wonderful blessings for you and George. May your week be full but with enough rest.

Addy’s dress and the smallest details are just sumptuous. Your works are wondrous.

    Blessings.

    1. HI Becky,
Oh, I will certainly add my hopes for a full, but restful week… not today… mowing with the push mower… but I’ve already earned 7407 steps on my fitbit! :o)
Thank you for your kind words about Addy’s dress! I appreciate them!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. So many things happening in your neck of the woods. Glad there were no injuries with the shattered window.
I like the change up on the beads and the new cap.
And nothing like company coming to start/finish new projects.
Our living room is currently a storage area. We’ve been dividing up the contents of a lifetime collection at my husband’s parents home. It’s taking hours at a time but we’re making progress. No time for dollies right now, but hopefully again soon.
How fun to have your sisters arriving and your husband’s brother too. Sounds like time for take out to avoid stressing. 🙂

    1. HI Joy,
When Reuben jumped at the glass when he saw a bird, it shattered in a million little pieces, but ti scared the daylights out of him. He ran to the bedroom and we called it “pouting” but I think he was scared. It took the next 4 hours to rectify the damage he had done! Silly dog!

It sounds like lots of fun at your house.. .just kidding… I know that ‘s a lot of work sorting through things and finding new places for them.
I’ll have fun while you are too… with my sisters and my sister in law and hubby! Lots of visiting this week! Take out or Panera’s sounds good to me! :o)
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. You have a very busy week indeed! I hope you have lots of fun mixed in with all that busy. It sounds like most of it should be fun.
Addy’s dress additions are delightful. It is all your little touches that make the ensemble so special. The careful thought you give to each little piece really shows us how the entire package comes together.
The umbrella is beautiful. I’m sure that you will be able to use it .
I hope you have a good day!
    Take care.

    1. HI Charlotte,
It will be busy but when you have family, there’s always room for fun! We can have lots of fun when we are together…
Thank you for your very kind compliments on Addy’s dress set this time. She looks adorable standing on my cutting table in all her finery!
I hope you have a nice day too!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. The details with the beads are really nice. Can’t believe you redid them. Perfectionist! And the lace cap is just beautiful. The umbrella was supposed to be from Anonymous! Hope you find a good use for it.

    1. Hi Susette,
OOPS! Sorry I mentioned your name. I Love the umbrella and wish I knew of some way to shrink it. It matches absolutely perfect!!!
I’ll figure out some way to use it…you just watch!
Thank you for your kind compliments on the dress…
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. I think perhaps if you just cut the end handle off the umbrella and replace it with a smaller bead it will be fine. The Battenburg lace part of it is fine because after all Addy is a 9-10 year old not an adult, so an adult size umbrella would be a little larger.

  6. Jeanne, don’t feel bad about things going on in your life and not being able to get this gorgeous outfit done when you want. We are always happy to hear about your exciting plans with family and household chores to be done. You take the time you need.

I must say, this is one of the most beautiful outfits ever…(do I say that about every outfit). I love love her hair piece…it is just beautiful. And the umbrella…I’ve never seen one like that…it is just beautiful. I think it is the perfect prop and really doesn’t look too big. Susette, where did you find that ?

    1. HI Paula,
Oh…thanks for permission to be with my family… my first family! You all are my second family! :o)

Thank you for your very sweet thoughts on Addy’s dress. I’m glad I had that little sliver of a collar left to make her headpiece. It was just big enough to do what I did and I think it looks pretty sweet too!

The umbrella is very, very pretty and just a tad too big, but I’m going to figure out a way to use it like an outside umbrella… I’ve got to.. it’s just too pretty!
      Thanks Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. I agree with Paula. I just bought an umbrella to go with a rain jacket for my AGs, and they look the same size as the one from Anonymous. Of course, mine is a rain umbrella, not a sunshade, but I think this is pretty much the size available. Does anyone have the lace one that belonged to Cecile or Marie-Grace? How does it compare? Of course you may want to make an afternoon walking dress to go with the umbrella.

    1. HI Marilyn,
I have a couple of those red umbrella’s for the AG dolls too… If this lacy one was that size, I could use it…
      I don’t know anything about Cecile’s umbrella… maybe someone else will know…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. That lace cap is just perfect on her. Rats…too bad that nice umbrella is a bit too big.
You are going to have a great week with your sisters…love the way you all get together so often….and have such a good time. Will we get to see the fun things you will do while they are there?

Have you or any others here seen the new Little Darling with the jointed body? I have wanted them to a jointed one . So much easier to pose….it’s a little out of my budget though. She has a different look…much bigger eyes. I’ll be interested to see what you think….there are messages asking about the body size to see if regular LDClothes fit. Just from one picture it appears the trunk of the body is the same size.
    Have a fun week!

    1. Thank you for the compliments on the lace cap for Addy, Kathie. I couldn’t believe I had a piece of an old collar that would work, but it did! yay!

I don’t know if Cindy has any projects in mind while she’s here, but if she does, you certainly will get to see it!

I have seen the new jointed Little Darling dolls and I’ve heard they have the same size bodies… but like you said, they are a bit high! I’ve only seen 2 or 3 of them, but they are certainly sweet looking. I think one just sold last week on Ebay…

I’ll have a fun week, if you promise to have one too! :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. To Jeanne and Kathie,
According to something Geri Uribe wrote about the new BJD Effner girls, they are a bit slimmer than the LD’s. So, not quite the same in the middle anyway. With eyes and wig they are about 718.00, and they are resin. I really like the vinyl LD’s. 🙂

  9. Oh, poor Rueben. He didn’t get cut and hurt , did he? My kitties love to watch “kitty tv” as I call it. The front porch window is SO exciting. They watch birds, squirrels and yesterday there were two adorable chipmunks to enjoy. We put seed on the porch floor and they are well entertained. Sometimes the squirrel “teases” by ducking around the corner and then reappearing. The kitties paw at the window and chatter at him.
Sick of seeing Addy’s dress? Of course not!! The Civil War ones are my favorites. 🙂 Addy’s dress is just beautiful and I love the little flowers on the sleeves. All those extra little touches make your dresses so swoon worthy. Her little lace cap is so sweet. The parasol from Susette is sweet. Some parasols were bigger than others. It’s hard to tell the size since it isn’t over Addy’s head. Is is larger than the Lacy Parasol for the NOLA girls. I have the burgundy one than is from Samantha’s Travel Accessories with her stereoscope and that one is pretty big. It will be a nice prop to use for future Civil War and even Victorian dresses. That actually is the kind of parasol I plan to buy sometime soon because It has a wood handle.
How nice to hear about Bithar’s baby. Is this a third girl? Sounds like you have a busy week planned.. There’s really no timeline on your dresses. unless it’s a self-imposed one. I almost hate for the posts on the Civil War and Colonial ones to end. I agree with Marilyn, will Addy complain getting to model her lovely dress for a few more days? I would think not.

    1. HI Laura,
No, Reuben didn’t get hurt, but I can’t really see how he didn’t.. glass was everywhere and his paws went through the window… I think he jumped back when the glass broke, and maybe he didn’t actually touch the window sill… ??
He has a different bark and reaction everything outside… if a car drives up, the mailman, if a squirrel runs by, (oh my that’s the worst!), if a bird is walking around outside, or a kitty… maybe the kitty is the worst.. he goes crazy!

Thank you for your very wonderful comments on Addy’s dress. She does look very pretty in it and I’ll be sad to see her get out of this one too. The umbrella is too big, but I’m going to look at some pictures and see if I can’t find a way to use it as a prop so it doesn’t look so big….there’s got to be a way…it’s just wonderful with her dress!

Yes, this is Bithar’s 3rd girl… she thought it was going to be a boy! I took her out 2 weeks ago after the ultra sound and bought her a little pink flowered onesie… to show her family… they thought it was going to be a boy too!
      Thanks so much, Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. Hi Laura, I loved hearing about your bird nests in the wreaths on your door. That is really an honor when they choose your home. They must feel safe.
Right outside this window I’m sitting at, is a fuzzy baby robin hopping around. He/she hides under a Japanese Maple bush. He was out in the middle of the yard and when I went out to pour some water in these carved rocks we have, the mother/father gave the warning to the baby. I tried to crouch down so I wouldn’t look big and threatening. I’m waiting for the baby to go to the rock for water. He is so cute. He sure obeys his mama.

    1. Hi Paula,
I like to watch the birds too. Our holly bushes have gotten so tall we can’t see our birdbath anymore…I miss seeing them splashing around in the water from my kitchen window.
      Thanks for sharing
      Blessings, Jeanne

    2. Hi Paula,
Baby birds are so much fun to watch. I enjoy seeing the mother stuff them with things to eat. There was one baby one year that had an attitude. The mother fed it and fed it and I guess couldn’t find something else fast enough. The baby fluttered around and peeped and then because the mother hopped forward and didn’t have something, the baby ran up and pecked the mother bird on the tail. I laughed so hard. I love watching the sparrows in the birdbath also. They all get in at once and sometime ride on another’s back while vying for a place in the water or take dust bath in the empty spaces in the garden beds.
The carved rocks sound neat. I have a butterfly puddler that a friend gave me. It is really nothing more that a foot tall rock that has a depression carved into the top, but I have seen butterflies as well as bees stop at it for a drink.

  11. What a pretty dress! I’m loving all the the little special touches although I know they are time consuming. It will all be worth it in the end when Addy has the perfect dress. It sounds like a busy week for you with all the things that need to be done before your company arrives. I’m sure hoping you have a great time with your family and maybe get some down time to recharge.

    1. Hi Carolyn,
I talked to my hubby about what I could about being so busy…his advice…take one day at a time and don’t stress… I will and I won’t!
Thank you for noticing the little “touches” on Addy’s dress! :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

  12. Addy is a vision of loveliness in her beautiful gown and that darling lace cap! The sleeves are just darling with the beaded flowers and the lace gloves are the perfect touch! The necklace will be the cherry on the top!!

I’m so glad that your sisters will be together with you once again. While we were in Ozark today, we did not go to the tea room! We stopped for gas—how’s that for fun! We saw plenty of evidence of the flooding from two weeks ago. Boy, you should see Table Rock and Taneycomo,—– really high.

That lace parasol is just adorable! I used to have one like that, but I don’t remember what I did with it, can’t even remember why I had it, because it was before I had my dolls. But I think it is not really that bad of a size for Addy. I have Cecile’s and love it, but I do think the handle is plastic. I can live with it! Sometimes I just close it up and tie it with a pretty ribbon matching the color of her dress, instead of her holding it open. It’s kind of hard to balance it while open when she is holding it. So sweet of “anonymous” Susette to send such a pretty parasol to you!

Congratulations to Bithar for another sweet little girl! I’m one of four girls and can tell you it was lots of fun having 3 sisters——most of the time!!

Well, you certainly have a busy week ahead! It sounds like fun though, and like the others say, Addy won’t mind a bit wearing that beautiful dress a little bit longer!

    1. Thank you Linda,
I’m glad you are having a good time “at Ozark gas station” , but one of these days you have got yo stop at the Spring creek Tea room…your hubby would drool over their desserts…their unbelievable desserts!!! :o)
I’m so glad you and others are liking Addy’s dress so much. I have to admit, I’m really happy I bought this fabric down in Cape!
A few more things to finish up and it will finally be all done, but everyone is so right…Addy won’t mind standing in it a little while longer.
Tomorrow Bithar gets to meet her new doctor…which is a big surprise. She comes all the way to the US from Haiti and ends us with MY doctor too…it will be fun!
      Thank you Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  13. Addy is just beautiful in all her “Southern Charm” attire, Jeanne! Her accessories complete the outfit to perfection. The lace cap is so sweet, and looks lovely with Addy’s braided hair style. Changing the beads on the sleeves to flowers was an inspired idea, and I love how you embellished the bow on the cap with the same beaded flower. Your tea-dyed lace gloves add old-world charm, and the lace parasol from “Anonymous” is the perfect period touch of elegance. (I agree with Paula and Marilyn that the size looks just fine!). Each accessory lends authenticity to a beautiful historic whole. Congratulations on another wonderful Jeanne Marie Original, and prayers for getting it listed when you are ready!

A baby girl, how wonderful! Best wishes to Bithar and Jean on their growing family, and blessings upon this new little life!

It seems your “crud” departed just in time, Jeanne! What a wonderfully busy week you have before you! Enjoy your visits with family, as your sewing will wait for anther time. However, after such a short time easing “back into the swing,” please do take it gently! A healthy Jeanne is a happy Jeanne, but, “The first wealth is health,” as Ralph Waldo Emerson has noted! Blessings on your full week ahead, and hugs to you from Ohio!

P.S. Hope Reuben is okay after chasing the birds!

    1. Thank you Anne,
I’m so happy you like Addy’s “Southern Charm” dress set with all the little details. Sometimes I wonder myself, if I can pull off what I have in my mind, and so far this dress has been right on target… that makes me very happy!
I am very happy the crud is going away…it’s not totally gone and today it was trying to sneak back in but it feels like it has “left the building” tonight… maybe it was all the push mowing that got it out of my system…

Reuben is fine, but we did take his stool away from the window so it’s a little bit harder to lunge at the window…
      Thank you Anne
      Blessings, Jeanne
