Sometimes it’s almost as fast to make two dresses (when things go as they should) as it is one! I decided to give it a try with my two littlest girls, Ten Ping and Noel. I pretty much perfected their bodices the last time I made them a dress, so they went together rather quickly. Unfortunately, the bodices were all I managed to get finished on them. But, with two dresses in the works, it’s a pretty good start!
Oh man, I really should have checked my pictures for the right color before I sat down to write this post. The fabric is a little washed out tonight, but it will have to do… there will be more “good” pictures coming soon.
If you click on any picture, it will enlarge.
I only had one fat quarter (that’s one quarter of a opened up yard of fabric… cut 18″ x 22″ generally) of this very sweet fabric and with my girls being so little, I’m pretty sure I can make both dresses made from it.. (let’s certainly hope so, now that I’ve already started.) The color of pink is so soft looking and remarkably, I have had a piece of vintage lace for a long time that I’ve never found anything to go with. But this does, so you can expect something with this lace for the girls.
Here is one last picture of them standing in their undies showing off their new bodices… not much for a post, but it will get more interesting, I promise!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Good morning, Jeanne! What pretty little dresses will be coming our way soon! Nothing says “sweet little girl” more than pink and lace! That lace looks like it was custom-made for the material! I can’t wait to see what else is coming for these two cuties!
I notice the material does fray where it has been cut. Do you ever use pinking shears? I have some, but don’t really see any of your dresses having pinking done to them. I was always taught to use them, way back when in high school and before that, but wonder do people still use them?
Hi Linda,
Thanks so much for your compliments on their half started dresses. Yes the fabric does ravel a little bit, but it’s a really fine fabric and I know it’s just cotton, but it almost feels like it has some silk in it.
I do have pinking shears but generally only use them when I’m cutting the fabric circle tops for my “brownies in a jar” gifts.
I’m still looking at your floor! It is really pretty!
Blessings, Jeanne
Jean, it would be pretty easy to put wood planks down on your floor, since you already have the base down. No gluing either, so not messy. I[m sure George could do it maybe with a bit of help, but he seems to be able to do anything!
HI Linda,
A relative sent us some money for flooring, so my hubby decided it was time for us to start a floor fund. We have our own separate little savings account for it. …so someday I’m going to have floors. We did take to someone about that Allure flooring that is in planks and sort of sticks to one another, but the guy told us it won’t work on wavy floors… we have wavy floors… we have crooked floors… carpet would probably be the best thing to hide all the ups and downs, but I don’t want carpet… I want floors…
Someday, I’m going to have them… :o)
Thanks for the encouragement!
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh those are pretty beginnings! And the lace looks perfect with the dress fabric. I’m looking forward to seeing them come together.
I was thinking about pinking shears too. My mother always used them.
Hope you have a good day!
Take care.
Hi Charlotte,
I was so pleased when I found that that lace matched my pink fabric perfectly. It will be wonderful to see it used for something after having it for so long.
I’m helping my hubby plant boxwood bushes at our church day. It’s a beautiful day here!

With the lace and the feminine print of the material, these will be adorable dresses. I forget how cute Ten Ping is and her friend, Noel. They must be happy that they are modeling the new dresses.
I’ve started my continued effort to organize my doll room again. I had to quit working on it for 3 months but I’ve been working on the room every chance I get. I had gotten bookcases I thought would work but they weren’t the perfect solution. These on-the-internet- bookcases are so cheap but they will have to do until I find the right ones. (what’s become a very long search in vain) At least once they are attached to the wall, I can place items on the shelves instead of having piles and boxes everywhere. It’s been fun though.
Have a great day !!
Hi Paula,
Yes, it can be fun getting your doll room / sewing room set up but if you can’t find the pieces that you want it can be frustrating. I hope it all comes together soon for you because there’s nothing quite so much fun as having your room just the way you want it.
Thanks Paula,
Blessings, Jeanne
I tipped my laptop backwards and the colors in the fabric become very intense. Now you’ve inspired me to make a new dress for Ten Ping. I ordered a wig like that but it is too big. Maybe I should try trimming it. But no one could be worse with hair than I am. Can’t wait to see the finished dresses.
I received the lovely little slip that appeared to be beige in the picture, but it is the loveliest pale pink. Yours come out so perfectly. Thanks again.
HI Susette,
I’m hoping if I get some new pictures taken of the dresses, they will turn out brighter. It is a beautiful little print. I bought just this one as it was the only one left. I thought it was so dainty and pretty.
If the wig is too big for Ten Ping, would it possibly fit the Little Darlings… they wear a size 7/8 generally. Lian’s black bob is a size 6/7 and it’s tight to get on, but it doesn’t look like too much hair to me…so I’m stuck on it! :o)
I’m so happy you liked your slip… and hope your girls feel the same way!
Thanks so much Susette,
Blessings, Jeanne
How fun to see the girls together. No wonder I have heard noises lately from the doll room. My Ten Ping has yet to meet Julie my new Effner Boneka. Guess some introductions are in order. Tell Noel that I like her curls. My Julie is now sporting a new wig also.
The dress color is perfect on both. I’m sure they will be very happy. Isn’t it great to be able to use just a fat quarter to make little things?
I use pinking shears all of the time to finish seams. My sewing teacher, many moons ago, would not allow cutting out with pinks as it could change the seam allowance. They were only used for finishing, which I do as I do not have a serger.
Hope you have a lovely day.
That’s interesting, Joy, about pinking shears. I don’t have a serger either, and we always used pinking shears, but mostly for finishing. I guess we are “old school”!!
Me, I’m very old school.:)
HI JOy,
Have “I” seen Julie yet? I’m racking my brain trying to think if you already sent me pics… If not, please do so… I love to see everyone’s newest dolls.
It IS wonderful when a fat quarter makes your dolls 2 dresses! I bet I could get 3 dresses for Ten Ping out of a fat quarter…if I tried really hard. :o)
I have a pair of pinking shears but mine are mostly used for decorative cuts… like I said. on my cookies in a jar gift tops. I’m staying out of the “school” discussion… :o)
Thanks Joy,
Blessings. Jeanne
That lace is going to be lovely on that fabric, Jeanne. It’s surely lovely to “watch” you as you work.
Blessings.
HI Becky,
I can’t wait to see the lace “with” the dress either…it looks pretty next to it, but to be a part of the dress will be much better! I’m glad you enjoy “watching” me work on things! As much as I don’t care for someone to be watching over my shoulder… I’m glad you and others are watching!
Blessings, Jeanne
Love, Love, LOVE that Lace!!!!
