Thank you for all the sweet Easter wishes you lavished upon me yesterday! I was very blessed by them. If you happened to miss “MY” Easter card to you, you can see it by going to yesterday’s post and then clicking the link I provided… ~ Wonderful Easter ~
I needed to make something else for the picnic our church was having after our Easter service this morning. Having already made a meatloaf, I wanted something “fun” to take. There are these chocolate no-bake cookies that I make all the time and thought I could do something with them. This time when I made them, I added a couple of Brach’s Jelly Beans while the cookies had just been scooped out and were still warm and soft. I sort of squished them down into the cookie so they’d stay put. So I called them my bird’s nest cookies. (We actually ended up not staying at the picnic, as my hubby wasn’t feeling great, so I have no idea if they went over well or not…) I snapped 2 quick pictures of them, so you can at least see them…
If you click on any of the pictures, they will enlarge.
Next I wanted to share something Hannah, (my niece’s daughter) made for school. (Hannah is the one I made the little flower girl dress for). She was in a competition at her school and was supposed to make a Peeps diorama… Hannah made hers and called it “Away in a Manger.” She didn’t win, but she made the newspaper! Woohoo Hannah!
Now let’s get a little more personal… my brother was sending some Easter pictures from “LONG” ago back and forth to us yesterday and I thought I’d share some of our early 1960’s Easter’s. (no laughing allowed!) I’m not sure which makes me laugh more… the grin on my brother’s face or the placement of the red bow in my hair…
It’s funny, but I still remember the feel of these dresses…they were a jersey fabric and slinky is the best way I can describe them. I LOVED mine!
(I’m not sure what’s up with the dates below some of the pictures… unless Easter came in “August” in 1965!)
We have called this the “cake hats” picture for as long as I can remember…
Here’s one of Cindy and me, when we lived in Texas. Cindy was looking down so I better give her another shot…
…and here is my sweet little sister, Deb, all decked out in navy and white…
It was fun seeing them again. Does anyone still wear gloves at Easter??? Inquiring minds want to know!
Last up, I have some new pictures of the baby chicks.. although they might be considered toddlers now. They are in the “ugly stage” as my hubby calls it…
I did get some pictures from some of you and will probably post them tomorrow. I have to alter a bridesmaid dress for someone and won’t have any time to sew for my dolls, so look for more Easter pictures tomorrow. You’ll want to see them.
Well, I’m signing off for today. I hope had a wonderful Sunday and didn’t eat too much chocolate!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Gloves and hats. Now only dolls and princesses wear hats and gloves are even harder to find.
Church was fun yesterday. I was impressed that the liturgy people, knowing that we’d have double the usual crowd, had planned carefully so that everything went smoothly and as quickly as usual. But no hats — I don’t miss them any other Sunday.
George thinks the chickens are at the ugly stage. One year robins built their nest just outside my kitchen door, which has a nice sized window. No young chicken is anywhere close to as ugly as little robins at their ugly stage — and then suddenly they begin looking like cute little well-groomed robins and before you have time to enjoy them, they fly away. At least that year they chose a safe place to nest.
HI Marilyn,
I’m late, but here I am…
You are so right about the gloves and hats nowadays!
Several ladies mentioned here, that they saw no hats… I did… a few ladies wore them to our service…but I didn’t see any gloves.. but it was pretty warm here yesterday.
I told George what you said about your “ugly” robins…it sounded funny to me…
Thanks Marilyn,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a fun collection of pictures and memories today, Jeanne! I think those chocolate no-bake cookies look just like the ones I bake at Christmas! I could swear they had coconut in them, but no, no coconut. I love them, and so easy to do!
Hannah did a wonderful job with her peep diorama. It made me smile, and how great was that—being in the newspaper!
Oh, the pictures! So funny and cute at the same time! Well, no gloves here at our Easter Sunday mass, or hats either! And how many little boys in suits—-none! I thnk things are much too casual nowadays. I love the way your mother dressed all of you in color co-ordinated outfits! Did she make those dresses? And the cake hats! Cute and funny at the same time!
Those chicks are really growing, and they too will become beautiful “swans”! Tell George he had better keep them away from a rooster !
HI Limda,
My chocolate no bakes don’t have coconut in them…but they quick oats… I bet I’ve made them 300 times since we’ve been married.. maybe more than that!
I liked Hannah’s Peep’s diorama too.. I bet she loved making it! She a little bit crafty like her grandma Cindy! :o)
My mom didn’t make our dresses, but she loved to have us looking nice and neat all the time! Yes, the cake hats…what can I say?
We are just hoping the 2 chicks we have are both hens… :o)
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
It sounds like you had a nice Easter. Your cookies were so cute. And Hannah’s diorama was very creative. I hope she enjoyed it being featured in the newspaper. Your childhood Easter pictures reminded me so much of my own.
I don’t think the chickens look ugly at all! They may be at their awkward age but not ugly. Do they have names?
Hope you have a good day.
Take care.
Hi Charlotte,
I’m glad you liked my post yesterday… a little bit of everything in it!
Our chicks don’t have names yet, but I was thinking about that today…we really should name them… My hubby likes to get them out and hold them in his lap… he is a farm boy to the core of his being!
Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
Your Easter photos brought back such memories:) Eveey one who wore a bow in their hsir in the ’60’s wore it exactly in the middle ( like Rosemarie wore hers in “The Dick Van Dyke Show”:)
Of course little white gloves for Easter as well.
The Peeps diorama was adorable! Thanks for sharing !
HI Shara,
I know the bows were worn that way, but it seems so silly to see it now like that. You almost just want to ask, “What were we thinking?”
I hope you enjoyed the many different pics yesterday…
Thanks so much for your comments.
Blessings, Jeanne
Love your family album. Agreeing with Shara, check any yearbook from the 60’s and you’ll see that special bow. You were just with the “in” crowd.
Those living peeps are growing quickly. Any idea if you have a rooster or two?
Hope your dress remodel goes well.
Enjoy your day.
HI Joy,
It may have been “in” to wear the hair bows like that then, but it sure seems silly now when I see the pictures.
We sure hope we don’t have a rooster in the two we brought home… I don’t know how long it will be before we can tell…
My dress alterations was NOT fun… a bridesmaid dress in peach… it had to have the shoulder straps taken up, the sides taken in 3″ on each side. The linings all undone and redone, the belt reattached, the skirt sides gathered up where there was extra fabric from being taken in, the dress hemmed… twice…the outer layer and the lining… It was not fun, but I’m so glad it’s over now!
I can’t wait to get back to dolly clothes!
Blessings, Jeanne
What nice family pictures of you and your siblings. Jeanne, you were just too cute as well as Cindy and Deb. It was neat to see the styles from that era and yes, I remember the bows. I loved the hats back then and the gloves. I haven’t worn gloves to church for a long long time. Just gloves for winter.
I remember my mother and her best friend spending a lot of time in the hat department or some of the millinery stores in our town. Sometimes getting hysterical over certain hats.
The chicks looks cute with their fuzzy feathers. They’ve grown so quickly but then birds do grow quickly. Our Mourning Doves are back …in threes, walking back and forth on the fence by the bird feeder. They are so funny and look like ducks in a shooting gallery, back and forth, back and forth chasing each other.
What a great job Hannah did on her diorama!! So clever and it got in the newspaper. How special. Hope she’s got a scrapbook.
I’ve got to make my no bake cookies now that I’ve seen yours. Yummy !! What a cute idea putting the jelly beans on top of them.
HI Paula,
Thank you for your sweet comments about our family pictures. It’s fun to look back on them. I can almost remember the days those pictures were taken.
We’ve had doves on the ground below our feeder too… I like to watch them walk and then when they take off flying… they are such sweet birds.
I wanted to put those Robin Eggs malted milk ball candies on the cookies, but they were too expensive for how many I needed for the picnic… Jelly beans were much cheaper and the kinds probably liked them just as well…
Thanks Paula,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a wonderful post for Easter! Everyone has covered all the details and I second every one, especially the pictures from the 60s and Hannah’s diorama. I really like Peeps. I guess it’s the childhood memory. I really enjoy setting the table for Easter dinner, no matter how few or how many are expected for dinner.
I hope George is feeling better. You are certainly pillars of the community of Carbondale. Thanks for sharing your day with us and Hannah’s Peep Show.
HI Susette,
I never was too big of a fan of Peeps, but I saw some rice krispy treats made with them in the different colored layers and I might have to try them if I find any peeps left in the stores.
Today was better than the last 3 days for my hubby… he just rested today and he said he was feeling better. It’s taking a toll on him… mentally and physically… :o(
I’m glad you enjoyed the post yesterday…
Blessings, Jeanne
Thank you so much for the sweet Easter card. I didn’t get to the post until late last night.
Congratulations to Hannah for getting her picture in the paper. What a creative scene.
What cute pictures of your sisters and brother and you. Love the “cake hats”.
There usually are a few hats and gloves on women as well as little girls on Easter at church, but I didn’t see any this year. I have worn gloves to church on Easter many times in the past, but I didn’t this year either. I do love them and dearly wish they would come back in style. I have a few pairs of crocheted ones that I’ve worn for homeschool and church functions before. My mom and I were just discussing yesterday about dress fashions and that she would have always worn a hat and gloves to church in the 1960’s.
HI Laura,
I’m glad you enjoyed the Easter card… I thought it was so sweet and I loved the bunnies!
I told someone above, I saw a few hats at church yesterday, but didn’t see any gloves. It was pretty warm here… though.
I received some new lace in the mail today and want to make some new gloves for the dolls. It’s a narrower stretch lace and will make a shorter glove. I can’t wait to try it out.
Thanks Laura,
Blessings, Jeanne
Took one look a the pictures of your family and immediately had so much love for your Mom. My gosh…she dressed you all so cute and everything fit to a tee! Such sweet styles too. There was a short time when that bow right in the center front was the style…I remember seeing bridesmaids wear them with a small bit of tulle attached.
We went to the Easter Vigil so there weren’t too many little ones (it was 2 hours long)….but we did have 2 ladies in some mighty fine hats 🙂 Thanks for the cute Easter card….nothing like spring and Easter.
Are you sharing the no bake cookie recipe?
HI Kathie,
Thanks for the compliments on my family photos….such as they are!
I saw some hats too.. that makes 2 of us who did!
Sure I’ll share my no bake cookie recipe… it’s not a secret… and is super easy. Watch for it… I’ll make a note to show how they are made…
Thanks Kathie,
Blessings, Jeanne
