I’m sure you had to realize Noel would be next… how can I get a new doll and let her stand around, waiting for a turn? Nope…one good thing about being adopted by me is you get first dibs on the next dress…usually! (If you missed my post of how she came to me, you can read it HERE.)
I was hoping I could get my pattern to fit all 3 of my 10″ girls, but it didn’t happen this time.
Here’s a (nudie) picture of all the girls together. They look similar but they are different when you try a bodice on their body.
I looked and looked and debated and studied all my blue fabrics… yes, I wanted Noel’s first dress to be blue. I wanted it to be really special and finally I had to enlist the help of my hubby… he was the one who picked out this fabric.
It’s a nice soft fabric that will work nicely. I used the pattern I usually use for Patsy Tonner and it’s an okay fit, but the next one I will take in a little bit across the front…it’s a smig wide.
I took it in a little bit more on the sides and now it won’t fit Patsy or Elin… I think a little tweaking of my pattern and I might be able to get it to work for all 3, but not this first one. It isn’t finished by a long shot, but I thought you’d like to see what I did get accomplished on it.
Isn’t she just a little sweetheart?
I’ll see what I can get done on it tomorrow… thanks for letting me share my newest little sweetie with you…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a sweet little dress (so far) for a sweet little doll! Noel is just adorable, Jeanne, and I see the differences in the size of the dolls, but how are you going to pull that off, if someone wants to buy this dress for another doll , since not too many have a Boneka doll? I guess it just depends on how the outfit is supposed to fit. Many dresses don’t have to fit tightly in the bodice area, so that can help. Maybe having a sash to tie in the back can help too. I do think the smaller dolls should have some “wiggle room”, and can still look cute! George did a good job of picking a sweet fabric for her! You have trained him well!
HI Linda,
I think Noel is adorable too….I’m glad I like her! I think the tie in the back is the best way to go…but I made this one too small for Patsy this time…maybe next time I can get it so more dolls can wear it.
Yes, I “have” trained my hubby well!
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
I found that usei the Ann Estelle/Patsy patterns with a sash tie makes them nice snd snug on my Boneka girls but slso fit the ones with a bit more fullness:)
Noel looks lovely in that soft blue print.. i know she will be a lovely addition to your models!
Congratulations on your new beauty!
Thanks Shara,
I’ll do the sash thing next time around… Patsy and Elin were disappointed they weren’t going to be able to “help” model this dress set… I told them we’d try again on another dress sometime soon.
I think my hubby did “good” picking the fabric he did! Noel looks very sweet and super little girlish in it!
Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
That is the perfect fabric for a springtime dress for little Noel. The color makes her eyes really pop and the size of the flowers isn’t so big as to over whelm her delicate frame. She looks so sweet and happy.
Take care.
HI Charlotte,
I’m glad you like the fabric for Noel’s dress. It’s such a soft fabric and that’s what I needed for something this tiny.
She is very happy to be here at my house and has made lots of friends with my other girls!
Blessings to you Charlotte,
` Jeanne
Love the dolly comparison. Looks like little Noel has smaller feet too? Shoes are so important.
George is a good picker. Love her in the blue and tiny flowers. Perfect for spring and upcoming Easter. If the shoes don’t fit, I can see her running through a field of wildflowers with her hair flowing behind. I think she is going to like the outdoors and maybe animals too. Like chickens?
HI Joy,
I haven’t measured her feet yet, but I had several pairs of shoes left over from when I had my Helen Kish, Bitty Bethany and my Millie from Kaye Wiggs. I have enough colors to get me started for now.
Running barefoot with her hair blowing sounds like a commercial to me! Maybe I could make that into a story line somehow. But for now, she’s picked out the white shoes.. :o)
Thanks Joy,
Blessings, Jeanne
Noel looks adorable in her new dress’ fabric. The blue color of the dress matches her eyes. Good choice, George. Noel is going to be so happy living with you. And to think she has some older sisters on top of it. The facial painting of the LD dolls is amazing. Noel will be very happy modeling for you too.
Joy had a good thought, running through a field of wildflowers…liking the outdoors and animals too.
HI Paula,
Thank you for your sweet compliments on Noel’s “half finished” dress set. I hope to get more done on it today. She’s a cute little girl and her older “sisters” are doting over her.
I’ve been thinking about getting a “plot” of astroturf that looks like the real thing, or maybe some Spanish moss, to have my girls in some more “outdoor” looking settings….just a thought.
Thanks Paula,
Blessings, Jeanne
So sweet and petite — both Noel and her dress! I love the dainty rose print on the blue background. (It looks almost periwinkle blue on my monitor, one of my favorite colors). Kudos to George for making such a lovely choice for the fabric. And kudos to you, Jeanne, for such a wonderful beginning on Noel’s dainty debut dress. I’m looking forward to all the Jeanne Marie details!
HI Anne,
I think you just gave me the title for Noel’s new dress… “Sweet and Petite” works for me! She’s both and so is the dress!
It’s fun to get a new doll and see the reaction from everyone over her. So far, I think she’s been well received. I know lots of ladies only have Little Darlings, or only have American Girl dolls, but that’s okay… it’s nice to mix it up every once in a while.
I wonder how many dolls I’ve owned since I started sewing for them…I should count sometime!
Thanks Anne,
I’ll see what I can get accomplished today!
Blessings, Jeanne
You got quite a bit done on the dress! Finding prints that are small enough is a never-ending challenge (at least it is for me), but the one George picked is very nice and the right scale. My older AG dolls are quite a bit chubbier than my newer ones, and when I make a dress that will be shared, I sew sashes into the side seams that can be tied in the back. It solves the problem, and a nice bow in the back looks pretty. Have you noticed that a small variation in sizes is really magnified on the tiny dolls? I’m struggling a little with the Boneka doll because of that issue. The shoulders seem small in comparison to the tummy, and I’m having to taper the bodice out a little. I hope I can make it work so that it looks the way I want it to.
Hi Carolyn,
I have gotten quite a bit finished and I’m working on a slip right now to go under her dress.
Fortunately I have lots of tiny prints for my littlest girls.
I am going to add a belt the next time. I should have planned my patern better but I guess I was in too of a hurry to see her in something.
Thanks Carolyn,
Blessings, Jeanne
The fabric is perfect in every way–color, scale of print, soft hand, etc.! Very sweet and quite appropriate!
I have a question: Are you going to pronounce her name in two syllables (no-ell) or one (“no’l” to rhyme with “coal”)? The actress who played Lois Lane in the old Superman TV series in the 1950s, Noel Neill, pronounced her name the latter way. (So did playwright Noel Coward, but of course, he was a guy….)
HI Charlotte,
I guess I only knew of the one way to pronounce her name..with 2 syllables… (No-el)
Thanks for your compliments Charlotte. I’m pretty crazy about this new little girl. She’s definitely stolen my heart! I’m ready to make her another dress… :o)
Thanks so much,
