Oh, Snag Nab It…

Who knows what a Snab Nab It is? If you do, you’ve probably got one in your possession. Click the link below to see what it is…

Snag Nab It

Rebecca had a sweater that Reuben snagged and she brought it to me asking for a “repair.” My shop was “Open” so I fixed it for her. I’ll show you how it was done…

One sweater with a snag needing repair…

You can see where the loop was pulled to the front side…

cimg6509

I pulled out my trusty Snag Nab It in its skinny case…

cimg6514

It’s a long skinny needle like tool where one end is sharp and the other end is sort of like a metal fingernail file…it has grooves cut into it that are sort of rough but they grab whatever they touch.

[If you click on this picture, you can see a close up picture of the tool better.]

cimg6522

What you do is take the Snag Nab It and poke it into the sweater’s snag and sort of weave it through the loose pull or sort of wrap it around the pull if you can…

cimg6526

Then you sort of twirl it slowly between your fingers as you go down through the sweater…it grabs the snag and pulls it to the underside…

cimg6530

If you can, try to find the closest spot to where the snag was pulled and make your Snag Nab It go down close to that area…

cimg6535

When you flip your sweater over, you’ll see the “snag” on the underneath side… Sometimes I stitch it in place with a piece of matching thread on a needle, but I didn’t this time… I just wanted to show you how it worked…

So the next time you get a snag in anything, just remember to “Snag Nab It!” I use mine ALL THE TIME…

Thanks SO much for all the dolly advice yesterday in the “comments” and emails to me… (HERE) You all certainly gave me LOTS to think about… I appreciate all the tips and pointers… I am “processing” everything and will let you know what I decide…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Well, that’s neat. I usually use a crochet hook but I’ll look for one of these next time I’m at JoAnn’s.

    1. HI Marilyn,
Yes, a crochet hook will work on some things… but this has that sharp point, so I’ve even repaired snags on silky fabric and made them look pretty decent…
      Thanks so much,

      1. So this is not just for knits or at least for sweaters — it works on other fabrics as well. I’ll keep reading — it may get clearer.

  2. So THAT’S what that little “thing” is in my sewing cabinet!! I have one and didn’t know it! Well, I just had forgotten, I guess, but I never called it a “snag nap”. Is that the official title of it? Now I remember that I got it back in the 70’s or maybe it was the 80’s, when there was so much stretchy and knit material. Lots of snags back then! It seems to me that I started from the underside and pulled it through. From reading your method, you start on the right side of the fabric? Am I reading that wrong?

    1. HI Linda,
Yes, the actual name of it is the Snag Nab-It! Yes, I’ve had one for years and it was and is especially good on knit fabrics…
You do start on the top side and pull the snag to the back… If it had a little hook on it, like Marilyn suggested in a crochet hook, you might do it from the bottom side…
Now you’ll have to go find something that has a snag on it and give it a try…

  3. Wow Jeanne I have never heard of this tool but I definitely could have used it! I will have to add it to my stash. Thanks so much for the info.

    1. HI Marsha,
Yep… there’s gonna be a run on the Snag Nab-It’s at Joann’s now… I can just see it!
      Glad to help!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. For a non sewer, surprisingly I have one of those and have used it many times. It’s a miracle worker. I didn’t know it had a name though.
My car radio is playing Christmas music and it makes me so happy. I never get tired of hearing it. I probably drive my family crazy. The old songs and the new ones are wonderful.
Well, everyone, have a great day, fa la la la la, la la la!! : )

    1. HI Paula,
I think I’ll get out some Christmas music and join in with you!
Fa La La back to you!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Neat little pokey thingy. I’ll keep my eyes open for one, now that I know for what it is used.
For Paula, I love Hawaiian Christmas music.

    1. Hi Joy,
I love Hawaiian Christmas music too… that one Mel e ka li ke ma ka (sp?) is a favorite of mine..
I hope you find a little (pokey) thing to use this Christmas…
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Be thinking of you and George tomorrow. Know all will be well.
Just a step to get those bugs under control.

    1. It’s kind of funny…tomorrow is the day we’ve been waiting for to get things started but I don’t want to go to bed because when I wake up it will be THAT day…
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne
