It’s just about that time of year when we see lots of black and orange put together…sometimes with a bit of purple mixed in too. Linda sent a few pictures and I thought I’d share them. Every year she must pick a different theme for her girls when they dress up. This year her theme is “Over the Rainbow!” Let me present to you, Susan, Molly and Ruthie in all their finery!
If you click on Linda’s pictures, they get REALLY big and you can see all the details in her set up…
This is her Betsy McCall and Ivy showing off their outfits…
Does anyone else have pictures of their girls dressed up in costumes? Send me your pictures and I’ll do my best to share them before the end of the month. Maybe we’ll do Thanksgiving or Autumn pictures a little later.
I could probably count on both hands the outfits I’ve made for my dolls where I’ve used black and orange together. I’m not a real big “orange” fan, so my dolls don’t have much to show you, but I thought I’d share a few of my favorite orange and black outfits… I’m sure most of you have seen them but maybe you missed a few of them…
I just noticed something when I was all finished and proofing my post… the first 4 outfits all have that same black and orange checked homespun fabric used somewhere on the outfit… see if you can find it…
Here is my 16″ Kish Four Seasons doll in a black and orange set I made back in 2009.
Katie Effanbee has on a sweet black and orange checked homespun jumper with a black blouse. She was a cutie in this set. I made this one back in 2008 and really dug into the archives for this one.
My 14″ Wren Kish is modeling a bright orange and black mix and match set that even included 2 cameras… a black one and an orange one. This set was from 2009.
Nyssa and Nyssa are modeling another fun mix and match set. I had 2 Nyssa’s because a dear friend in California loaned me her tan Nyssa until I could find one myself. She let me borrow her doll so I could start making clothes for them. When I found my sweet Nyssa, I mailed her doll back to her. This was the last set I made having both Nyssa’s as models. Their outfits were made in 2010. It was one of my favorite sets to make and I just kept making pieces… When I looked up Nyssa’s pictures, I noticed something interesting… I took these pictures of Nyssa on October 24, 2010… exactly 6 years ago today!
Last up is my dear, sweet 13″ Lian, by Dianna Effner. She’s modeling my favorite outfit in the “orange and black” category. I LOVED her in this adorable dress. I’m not an orange person as I mentioned above, but it’s still my favorite orange dress…in fact, it’s one of my all time favorite dresses…no matter what color! It is my most recent outfit in “orange and black” and was made in 2012… See I told you I’m not a big fan of orange and black… 4 years since I’ve made anything in those colors.
My sisters are both here visiting so I may not get to your comments but I will read them…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a surprise to see my dolls featured in the blog today, Jeanne! I had no idea you were going to do that, but thank you anyway! What’s not fun about showing off your dolls all dressed up for Halloween?
I had no idea you were doing all this sewing back in 2010, but then I only had a few dolls and only looked at American Girl things. What a treasure trove of orange and black outfits! Lian’s dress is just adorable, and you know what? Orange is the new black!
Enjoy your time with family! We leave for a couple of days for Branson to see the fall colors and check out a few shows and Silver Dollar City!
HI Linda,
How could I NOT show Molly, and Linda and Ruthie all dressed up like that. They are such cuties!
Yes, I was busy sewing back in 2010, and 2009, and 2008, and a few years before that. I think I’ve been sewing since forever!!! :o)
I am enjoying my time with Cindy and Deb, and Cindy’s hubby Tom….momma too…
Enjoy your time in Branson… and enjoy the leaves turning colors…
Blessings, Jeanne
Rebecca’s birthday! Kristoffer’s birthday! Your sisters are visiting! What a lovely social time you are having. And the weather has been good so that you can enjoy all of this even more.
Linda’s doll are wonderful. I can’t believe that she’s been involved with AGs for only 6 years. I saw an AG ad or catalog — the picture was of Samantha — 20 years ago and loved the clothes. Shortly afterward, Nikki and I were shopping in Whole Foods and saw 2 dolls being pushed in a baby carriage by someone too young to take care of them. I said, “Aren’t those those dolls?” and Nikki said, “They look like they are living in hell.” Poor dolls. Perhaps their girl grew a little older and her mother sent her dolls to the AG hospital. I certainly hope so.
I love Linda’s Halloween letters (and outfits). She probably looked at Katie Effanbee’s hat decoration with special interest. It would fit in perfectly with the letters. I especially liked the candy-themed outfits. The little ghosts on the shirt are almost candy-corn shaped and I’m sure that’s intentional.
Your orange and black outfits are charming, and you had such a nice time with the orange and black cameras. Of course my favorite outfit is Lian’s because I was the one smart enough to win it. It’s even nicer in person, and I have always loved those tiny decorative buttons.
Hi Marilyn,
Yes, it has been a week of celebrations and visits… I am glad company has come and we get to spend time together again. It can’t happen often enough for me.
I had to laugh at you and Nikki’s experience with the poor dollies being wheeled around by those little girls. You painted such an intriguing picture of it all! I had to smile! :o)
All the little details in Linda’s pictures are why I said to click on the pictures and enlarge them… so you could see EVERYTHING! :o)
Yes, Marilyn, you were the winner of Lian’s sweet orange dress. I was so thrilled to know it went to such a dolly lover…I knew it would be in good hands!
Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
Blessings on your visit and visitors. This is a busy time for you…..
The photos of all of the dolls and their outfits are charming. It’s surely fun to see a variety of colors throughout the year-inside and outside.
Take care.
HI Becky,
Thanks so much for your sweet compliments on all the doll outfits I showed today. It was fun to showcase them all.
Thank you too, for your sweet card that arrived today. I was blessed by it!
Many blessings to you,
~ Jeanne
Hi Jeanne,
Linda’s dolls look like they are having a great time at a Halloween party so cute. Thank you for sharing all those fun fall dresses. What a treat. Have a wonderful time visiting with you sisters!
HI Ingrid,
I just had to share Linda’s pictures with everyone today. They were too cute NOT to!
It was my pleasure to share the pictures of my girls in their black and orange dresses along with Linda’s!
I am having a nice time with my sisters and one brother in law! He’s been our chauffeur for some of today! :o)
Blessings, Jeanne
Love seeing Linda’s Halloween girls. So cute.
The little separates for the Nyssa’s are adorable. Love the plaid skirt and dotted jumper.
Would you believe that my high school’s colors were/are black & orange? The Panthers. I wore so much black/orange my senior year, because I was a song leader, that you’d think I would be sick of it. I actually still like the combo. Just not so much on me.
HI Joy,
How fun to see your high school colors on today’s post. The Panther’s huh? I think we have some Panther’s around here at one of the schools, but I’m not sure of their colors… probably black and orange too!
I really enjoyed making the Nyssa’s outfits… it was really fun coordinating the fabrics and coming up with ideas for their mix and match pieces.
Thanks Joy,
Blessings, Jeanne
Linda, your girls are adorable in their outfits and what a great choice for the era they live in. I think Ruthie is really Linda in your doll world, right? Even in her alter ego I see she still exhibits her princess affection. The only costume I have is the Wood Fairy one that AG made long ago. My Felicity wears it on Mid-Summer’s Eve and Day, the only time she steps out of character. Samantha is the only one of my dolls who could do Halloween, Felicity and my Civil War girls technically couldn’t. Hope you have a great time in Branson, Linda. I grew up watching Lawrence Welk with my grandparents. We hope to one day soon make it to Branson and also to see the Little House site in Walnut Grove as well as the others.
Jeanne, the orange and black outfits are very cute. Animal photography or sightseeing must have been the order of the day with the little cameras. I have Samantha’s binoculars and Kit’s camera and they make great props. Lian’s is my favorite as well, She pulls off the colors beautifully because of her coloring.
Hope you are having a wonderful time with your sisters.
HI Laura,
Thanks for the compliments on my girls and their black and orange outfits. I really need something new to share but it’s kind of late in the season now to make one… maybe I’ll try for next year. :o)
I grew up watching Lawrence Welk too…and the Lennon Sisters and the lady who played the piano, (?) and Billie and Bobbie (?) I loved the music and the singing and the dancing…
I hope you make it to Branson someday too!
Yes, there’s no doubt about it… we are enjoying being together…my sisters and I! :o)
Blessings, Jeanne
What a great idea: Sharing photos of Halloween parties and costumes. Linda’s pictures are great. I love seeing what your other followers do with their dolls and all the details.
I finished a witch costume and am making another for Riya, but like Marilyn saw in the market, I think she’s a little young for it as it’s a little delicate to get on and off. I already sent a Batgirl costume I found on eBay to match the one she’s wearing, so next year for her witch. It’s fun to see the little people “come to life.”
What’s so great about your outfits is that they can be worn for the whole Fall season and aren’t limited to Halloween. Great choices for trim and details. Love seeing your photos and the ideas you always come up with.
HI Susette,
Yes, it’s MY blog so I can do what I want and I want to share pictures from others who have made black and orange outfits. I’m glad you enjoy seeing what others are doing!
I haven’t even looked to see what costumes are popular this year in the pattern books. Sometimes you can get some really neat ideas by looking at the costume section.
Thanks so much for your kind words about the outfits I showed today in orange and black. I really need some new ones to show…
Thank you Susette,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, you won’t believe, but I have a new AG dollie. Marie Grace. She is adorable. So happy to have her.
HI Joy,
Oh…you’ll have to tell Laura… she’s a HUGE Marie Grace fan! I’m happy for you!
Congrats!
Blessings, Jeanne
