This post isn’t about ME and a new doll…it’s about Deborah and her new doll! Deborah is the daughter of Bithar…my new friend from Haiti. Wednesday was Deborah’s birthday and she is now officially a big girl, turning 4 years old! I wasn’t sure if she had a dolly or not, but I saw one at Walmart and just HAD to get it for her. It had a squishy body and was just the right size for Deborah’s little hands. I showed it to you yesterday…and think it’s the sweetest little dolly!
Well, this afternoon I took my cupcakes and Deborah’s wrapped up doll over to their apartment. I wanted to see her reaction when she opened it up and saw the doll. I could hardly take pictures as I was so touched… I wanted to share this with you…since it DOES involve a doll! :o)
This next picture was the sweetest…when she got it opened enough to see that it was a doll, she put her hand up to her mouth and just squealed… it was in Creole so I asked Bithar what she was saying… she was saying it was a baby and she was happy! She just stared at it for the longest time!
We had a dickens of a time getting this poor baby out of the box… she was strapped in, tied down and taped up… it took 6 hands to get her free from the box!
Oh, but just look at this smile….
Her mom asked her what she was going to name the baby… and she hollered out… JEANNE! I understood that! :o)
Well, that certainly made MY day… I hope it put a smile on your face too!
I’m still working on another piece to go with Willa’s brown dress… it will be worth the wait… maybe tomorrow… :o)
See you then,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, how absolutely SWEET this post is! A little girl and a dolly—-my favorite kind of a post! Deborah is a darling little girl and you can just tell how surprised and happy she was in the pictures! It looks like the polka dotted wrapping paper even matches her dress! That picture of her holding her doll and smiling says it all!
Oh yes, trying to get a doll, or any toy, out of the box requires some patience! I will be taking off Lea’s ties before giving her to Annie for Christmas. They just want to get the doll out and start playing!
Oooh, do I see an apron or pinafore for Willa? Looks darling, Jeanne!
Hi Linda,
I just couldn’t resist using these pictures for my post today! It was so much fun to give her the box and watch her open it up. She didn’t want to tear the paper first and kept trying to figure out how to open it. It was cute to watch before she even got the doll out of the box.
That picture of her holding her hand to her mouth wasn’t staged… it’s actually what she did and I happened to catch it. She must have stayed like that for 5 seconds or more just staring at the doll. It was so much fun!
Oh, I hope you like the new “addition” to Willa’s set. I sure do! I was going to try to take my pics outside, but it’s raining out there, so I’ll have to figure out the lighting inside…
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
I didn’t realize the doll was soft — she’s going to be so nice to cuddle. And she’s caught on that the thing you do with babies is — feed them.
What I had in mind to say is exactly what Linda did. Deborah is a darling — Jeanne coordinated her paper to the birthday girl’s dress — getting the doll out of the box is always so much fun — AND — a pinafore for Willa? Just what I wanted. What a lovely post. I think my favorite picture is the one of Deborah with her hand over her mouth. I wonder if you have some nice soft flannel for a blanket. I think that is going to be one well-loved doll.
HI Marilyn,
Yes, if anyone needs a sweet little dolly for someone, this one is it. She is super soft in the middle and pretty lightweight and easy to hold. I picked her up once she was out of the box and she’s very fun to hold. I found the doll at Walmart…
I noticed the polka dotted dress and the polka dotted paper when I saw it in my pictures. It certainly wasn’t planned that way…
Deborah’s hand over her mouth was my favorite picture too… She just stayed that way and I was able to capture that sweet moment. A blanket and maybe a little flannel cap will be a nice addition to “Jeanne’s” wardrobe! Thanks for the idea…
I think she’ll be well loved too!
Blessings, Jeanne
“And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it (showed care) to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’ Matthew 25:40
This is why I am SO proud and blessed to call you my sister.
Love,
Deb
Awwww Deb,
You made me cry!
I love you too!
Me
She is just the sweetest thing. 😀
Thank you Christine,
This was such a fun gift to give and her mom was so blessed too!
Blessings, Jeanne
Debra hit it on the head, Jeanne. Bless you for giving this little girl such happiness. If she isn’t a little doll herself!! Those are some happy happy pictures…a little girl loving her new little dollie.
HI Paula,
Thank you so much for your kind words, Paula. It was more than my pleasure to give Deborah her new dolly… and then to have her name it Jeanne…it doesn’t get any better than that! :o)
Yes, they are happy pictures…
Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, Deborah, looks so pleased and happy with her new dolly. How sweet of you to get her one and I bet you were pleased to have it named after you. *smiles* I bought my daughter a Berenguer baby doll for her third birthday She looks fairly real, but not creepy real like the Reborn dolls. I don’t care for those at all. That baby doll and a Famosa doll ( her special one) were before she got Kirsten and we went down the PC/AG road. By next year Deborah can get a Wellie Wisher.
Willa’s dress is looking cuter by the day. I’m with Linda, I think that might be an apron I see. Willa is making something delicious.
HI Laura,
I think Deborah WAS pleased with her new dolly. The whole 45 minutes I was there, she didn’t have the doll out of her arms once! That’s always nice to know you picked the right doll.
Yes, when she turns 5 maybe a Kendall would be a fun gift to give her.
Oh…it might be an apron… you’ll have to wait and see…
Thanks Laura,
Blessings, Jeanne
Love all the photos!! What a sweet child !
Thank you Shara,
Yes, Deborah is a sweet child and I think we’ll have a fun new bond now… :o)
Blessings, Jeanne
Isn’t it wonderful that dolls can look like lots of different children now? And the doll does look just like Deborah. What a wonderful picture of Wonder you took! Love the ribbons in her hair. She is a beautiful little girl, especially in that pretty dress. What a thoughtful little girl to name her doll Jeanne. And you for finding the doll for her.
Willa gets fancier every day with the special Jeanne Marie touches. I’ve learned from you that it’s just a dress without the special touches the accessories lend to the whole picture.
HI Susette,
It is fun to see all the different dolls… you can find just about anything now!
Deborah and her little sister, Esther, come to church with all those dangling hair clips in their hair and it’s SO cute!
It was a very fun shopping trip finding her just the right dolly! I think I did good this time! :o)
You’ll see what extra thing Willa got very soon. My hubby just left for work so I’ve got to get my pictures taken… and then listed on Ebay…
Thanks Susette,
Blessings, Jeanne
My favorite pic is the one with momma smiling at her daughter smiling. It’s a keeper.
I’m thinking apron for the dress. Something Willa might wear while putting the finishing touches on her special Thanksgiving dish or setting the table for guests.
HI Joy,
I like that picture too and think I might print these off to give to them to remember the day. It was special for me, and I think it was for them too. I’ll have to keep my eyes open for a dolly for Deborah’s little sister, Esther. Her birthday is in July so I’ve got time…
You’ll see Willa’s whole set pretty soon… :o)
Blessings, Jeanne
Speaking of dolls, we just got back from Costco. They have American Girl Bitty Baby with dark and light hair and cute one with darker skin too. $99.00 which includes a second outfit, carry bag etc. And on the Maru site, Mini Maru is now available with dark or redish hair. 13″ designed by Dianna Effner of Little Darling fame. $99.00 including shipping. I’m debating on that one.
Oh Joy,
I can’t EVEN go look at the mini Maru’s… tell me NO! I’m sure I’ll have to go look… but NO buying!
Blessings, Jeanne
What a heart warming narrative, Jeanne….perfect name for this doll by a very grateful (and beautiful!) little girl-Deborah. Thanks for taking time to share these special moments with us.
Blessings.
HI Becky,
When I got home and then looked at my pictures, I just HAD to share them with everyone. It was a very sweet time with them… I took over a dozen cupcakes and her brother, Samuel, wanted one… she was telling him NO… she thought they were ALL hers! :o)
I’m glad you enjoyed seeing the pictures…
Blessings, Jeanne
What wonderful pictures and story, Jeanne!
About 3-4 years ago I gave our granddaughter a Cabbage Patch Kid–one of the late-1980s ones that were so nicely made. I’m a CPK collector, and had some “new” ones. She had a similar reaction, and her brother told me, “Grandma, she kisses that doll and puts her to bed every night!” Again, a case of the right doll at the right time.
Oh, dear, I may need to know the addy for that Maru website! Best you share!! LOL
HI Charlotte,
I already looked for the Maru mini website too and wasn’t sure I found it. Nothing would load for me… so I’m not sure I saw the right dolls…
The story of your granddaughter kissing her baby each night was sweet!
Blessings, Jeanne
