If Cindy thinks my sewing studio needs a sign, I DO TOO! Of course, I didn’t know that before she got here from PA, but now I do… and I totally agree with her. So the first thing we had to do was find a board big enough to use… My hubby, bless his heart, went to the garage and picked out several possibilities for us to consider. We decided on this one…
It is actually the old headboard from his mom’s bed. There was some kind of fancy trim work around the edges but it had chipped and been taken off long ago and was stored in our garage. I think his mom would have been pleased to know that I’m using her old headboard for a sign in my sewing room.
But it was stained very dark and needed to be sanded to lighten it up just a little bit. These are the 2 best “sanders” I know! :o)
We bought some stenciled letters at Hobby Lobby that we thought we were going to use, but at the last minute, Cindy decided to do the painting on the sign free hand. (Talent on loan from God… I tell you!)
She used some painters tape and taped off the straight edges of the wood and drew the rest freehand. Then she painted about a 1″ white border around the edges and used some chalk to sort of lay out what she was going to paint…
I was the “picture taker” again, so the pictures are from all different angles….I always get the easy jobs… :o)
…and with the tape pulled off…
I won’t tell you what she’s painting but IT LOOKS FABULOUS SO FAR!!!
She worked some more after I had taken that last picture, but I’m waiting to have another “REVEAL” before I show you this one!! I’m so excited, I sort of did the little jump up and down with the hand claps!!! Yep, that’s how excited I was!
We did a little antique shopping today, some thrift store shopping and even found time to eat lunch at Panera’s!
We came back to my house and did a little “tweaking” in my room… I’m almost ready to start sewing in there!
What a perfect day… except it’s now 1:42 a.m. and I have GOT to get to bed…Tomorrow is a family reunion and Cindy’s last day here! I’m already sad she has to go back home… :o(
I promise there is sewing in my future… just hang with me a little bit longer!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
I think we all like it when there is fun and family in your future. I know you love sewing, but breaks are nice too, especially when good and creative things are happening when you take them. What you are showing us is a kind of Simple Abundance of talent, and how nice it is to use your talent every day. You’ve shown us cooking, beading, painting, building, crafting, designing, sewing, and, most of all, sharing. There’s also living well with what you have, as well as enjoying it as you improve it. Doll days are fun, but not the only fun on this blog.
Awwww Marilyn,
What sweet thoughts you shared today!
My heart is full! Thank you SO much!
Blessings, Jeanne
You and Cindy (and George) have accomplished so much in the few short days she’s with you. What a glorious time you’ve had together and memorable. Can’t wait to see the sign finished and all of your combined efforts manifested in your sewing studio. What fun it will be for you to be in there…a rejuvenation!
Blessings.
Thanks so much Becky,
We always have a wonderful time together no matter who comes home. Next weekend my sister Deb and Bob will be here. Then I get to have fun all over again!
Cindy just finished the sign and Becky, it is fabulous!!!! I am so excited and can’t wait to take it home and put it up!
Blessings, Jeanne
What fun you all must be having and had. There’s nothing as wonderful as family and family get-togethers. I’m sure the time went faster than you wanted it to.
Can’t wait to see the finished sign Cindy is doing. I love those weathered looking signs. Wonder what it will say?
I did one for my son’s bathroom. ” Refreshing water – SHOWERS – 50 cents. Towels extra” or something along those lines. In making it yourself, you can use your own choice of colors according to what rooms the sign will go in or what the theme is, as Cindy is doing for you. I’m going to do one for my son’s guest room about how far he is from the lake and that there are boat rides. Fun, fun!
Enjoy your sewing room! Blessings!
That sign is intriguing. Dress Shoppe? That headboard use is such a fabulous idea. Love it. I think you need to shrink Cindy and mail her off so she can spend time with all of us. Definitely could use her talent here.
A sign will give a true professional touch to your studio, Jeanne, and how sweet that you could repurpose the headboard for it. I’m sure your mother-in-law would be very pleased with the idea. The dark wood with the lovely curved shape and the hand-painted lettering will add old-world charm and fit in nicely with your decor. I can definitely see why you are excited enough to do your “happy dance,” Jeanne! We will all be looking forward to the debut of your newly christened sewing studio!
I must agree with Marilyn’s eloquent post today. Someone once said, “A good life is a collection of happy moments,” and you, dear Jeanne, have a simply abundant life! Thank you for sharing your daily journey with us. You are an inspiration!
Love the shape of the sign and that it was your MIL’s is even better…Cindy has a real talent for lettering and almost anything else…?
Such a fun weekend. Family is good!
What a wonderful project that’s made with love. I’m guessing “Dressmaker,” but I could be wrong. It might not fit. Can’t wait to see it in place.
