It’s probably no secret… I LOVE the color turquoise! Turquoise necklaces, turquoise dresses and tops, turquoise flip flops, (I have them on right now!) I once even saw a turquoise Dressmaker sewing machine for $70 and wished when I got home that I had bought it, and I like turquoise fabrics and have quite a few in my stash! I especially like the color next to tanned skin! I saw the fabric that I eventually chose and decided it would look very pretty on the newest girl in my house.. Trixie Tonner. She’s the same size at Patsy, but she won out this time because of her tanned skin! I also like her big brown eyes.
I made some progress on her dress this evening and thought I’d give you a heads up on what’s coming. I took a piece of the floral fabric and gathered it up for her skirt and pinned it in the back. The bodice is all done but there is still work to be done… snaps and maybe embellishments on it.
I did have Addy on my cutting table and 2 fabrics laid out for a possible dress for her, but I heard this faint cry from my dolly shelf… it was my littlest girls… Ten Ping, Elin, Patsy and Trixie all saying, “Pick ME!” I decided it had been quite a while since one of them got to model so Trixie convinced me she needed another turn at modeling!
I am going to make the dress with some of the same piping (I think) as I used on Isabelle’s Toodles dress set…and then it will have the flowered print skirt. I may make a pair of pantalettes from it too. I need to see the dress before I decide. There might be lace between the bodice and the piping… I’ll have to see on that too.
Once when I was sitting at the sewing machine, I looked over when I heard a bit of a racket… It was Trixie digging around in my Dolly Toy Box. When I asked her what she was doing, she said, “Oh nothing…just finding my accessory!” Gotta love her! :o)
Speaking of animals… many of you asked which animal Molly picked when she won the Ring Toss contest at the Fair… well, I thought I’d tell you, she picked the tiger on the top row, because she said he was smiling at her! (you were right Marilyn!)
Well, it’s time for bed so I can get up tomorrow and work on Trixie’s dress some more!
Do you have a favorite color?
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
A favorite color, Jeanne? I have always loved the color green, and still do! I think God must have loved it too, since so much of the earth is green! Aqua is another color I love, a bit more subdued than turquoise, I would think, but I do love those cool colors! We can certainly us them in this heat we are having!
Trixie’s dress will be cute! Yes, that blue does her justice, and looks so summery! Is she smaller than the Little Darlings? Did you ever show a picture of your line-up of dolls to show the different sizes? That might be an idea!
Oh, Molly picked the tiger! Go Mizzou!!
HI Linda,
It’s so nice that there are lots of different colors for everyone to have their favorite, isn’t it? I already knew you liked green and would pick it.
Trixie is the same size as Patsty Tonner, 10″ tall. I did do a size comparison of my dolls one time in a post. I might have to find that for you…
Yes, Molly picked the tiger… too bad it’s just for fun! :o)
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a sweet looking little Trixie…the colors you’ve chosen for her seem to suit her so well. Good choice. It is an uplifting color.
A deep violet has seemed to be my color of choice for decades. I think it came from living in an area where there are alot of those lovely deep colored plants around in the Spring.
Take care.
Thank you Becky,
I’d like a dress out of this color and fabric too…then Trixie and I could match! I think it does look very pretty on her.
That deep violet sounds very pretty and sounds sort of old fashioned.. I like that.
Thanks so much Becky,
Blessings, Jeanne
Your Trixie is so cute. I have the curly haired one. She photos well too. Love her in the turquoise outfit. Does she need a little Rebecca necklace/bracelet?
I’ve been thinking about adding another to my group. Maru & Friends are coming out with a 13″ doll who is very sweet looking. Little Darling size. Still thinking about it, since they aren’t available until until Nov/Dec.
Thank you for your compliments on Trixie,
I waited and waited and waited for the curly headed one to come up on Ebay. 2 times I lost out on the bidding, so I finally guess I gave up and Autumn Trixie.
I might have to see if Rebecca can make her a bracelet….good idea…
I’ll have to check out the new 13″ doll you’re talking about. I think I may have seen them but can’t remember what they look like.
Thanks Joy,
Blessings, Jeanne
boy, say that title 5 times fast! LOL!!
I’m always ‘drawn’ to greens…but – I rarely meet a color I don’t like. 🙂
HI Mary,
My title is a bit of a tongue twister, isn’t it? :o)
So you and Linda are my “green” ladies…
I like lots of different colors too and it would be hard to just limit myself to a few… so I don’t!
Thanks Mary,
Blessings, Jeanne
I feel the same way about purple as you do about turquoise! 🙂
HI Christine,
I see in your gravatar picture that you must like turquoise too…as well as purple! :o)
Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
I gravitate to some shade of green in most everything! Nature’s finest! Followed by yellow–my favorite flower color! Not what you find in the market very often and unfortunately, not all of my dolls look good in these two colors.
HI Vicki,
Well, now I guess I have 3 “green” ladies! There are lots of pretty greens out there and I have an abundance of them in my stash. You can’t ever have too many greens! :o)
Yellow on the other hand is pretty slim in my stash. Not so many but I do like the ones I have.
I bet in the 10 years of sewing and selling my doll clothes, there haven’t been 20 dresses in yellow….maybe not even that many.
Oh well… that’s okay…
Thanks so much Vicki,
Blessings, Jeanne
You are off and running with this one, Jeanne! The pretty floral skirt looks so sweet paired with the flocked dotted Swiss bodice, but as always, it will be your trimmings that make us “oooh” and “aaah.” As you may remember, my current “play” dolls include Patsy, Grace, and Sophie, so I would be “tickled pink” to win this lovely turquoise dress, although as you have already noted, the color is so complimentary to Trixie’s beautiful tan skin.
Many years ago, my mother-in-law gifted her three daughters-in-law the same book on color analysis and tips for dressing according to your coloring as it corresponds to a particular”season,” Spring and Autumn being the “warm” colors, and Summer and Winter being the “cool” colors. With my rosy skin, light brown hair and hazel eyes, the book categorized me as a “Summer” and helped confirm what I instinctively knew, which is that I feel my best in light pastels and soft neutrals with rose and blue undertones. Those are “my” favorite colors, and I tend to gravitate toward those for my dolls as well, but I think a lot depends on the doll and the season. The turquoise is a “winner” for Trixie for sure!
Looking forward to your process and progress on this one, Jeanne. I wonder how you will surprise us this time?!
HI Anne,
Yes, I’m off and running and I didn’t even ask for anyone’s opinion on this one… I guess I knew I wanted to use this fabric for Trixie. She does look awfully pretty in it, I think. But, Grace, Patsy and Sophie would look good in it too! (sorry, I couldn’t resist!) :o)
I remember going to “Color Me” parties and I found out I was a winter, and have pretty well gravitated toward those colors since then. I do like the bold jewel toned colors, but maybe just slightly softer than what I used to wear.
I’m hoping to have something more to show you tomorrow on it. I’ve had a busy day, but I still think I can get some sewing in this evening.
Thanks so much Anne,
Blessings, Jeanne
Molly’s dress turned out very sweet. I like turquoise as a summer color and have a couple of turquoise as it the gem pieces of jewelry for outfits. Most are set in silver, but I have an Indian piece set in gold which I love because I’m more of a gold person. My absolutely favorite color is periwinkle blue and blue in general as well as greens and off colors. Trixie looks wonderful in turquoise and white. She has the same warm skin as Josefina and that color is fantastic on her.
I’ve had a couple of stressful days as my little boy kitty was at the vet with a UTI and had to have surgery to get unblocked. He’s doing better now, but we have a round of antibiotics and elimination of certain food.
So sorry to hear about the kitty. I can remember when our Charlie had a problem. When we picked him up the next day, he was like a limp dishrag, but so happy to see us. Recovered quickly and lived to the ripe age of 20.
HI Laura and thank you so much for your sweet comments on Trixie’s dress so far… I’m not sure I’ve ever seen turquoise jewelry set with gold before. I might have to look that up. It’s usually always silver.
I like periwinkle very much too… and have 2 sweaters that color. It looks good with my dark hair.
I’m sorry to hear about your kitty… I hope he’s better now…
Blessings, Jeanne
Hi Jeanne,
Molly looks so sweet in her dotty dress. Love the pic of her in front of all the animals. It certainly says County Fair to me 🙂 You did a great job!
I really love all colors but if you took a peek in my closet you would say she really like black and white.
Have a great afternoon!
Oops.. Forgot to mention Trixies new dress… Love your fabric choices. I’ve said it before Jeanne you have an awesome eye for picking color and fabric patterns. Love the combination!
HI Ingrid,
If you looked in my closet, you’d see lots of black and white too… mostly black. I love black “everything!” I guess I’m not alone.
Thanks for your kind words about Molly and being at the County Fair. It was fun to reminisce about fairs for an afternoon while I put together her little scene.
I’m glad you liked Trixie’s dress too.. now to get busy on it again… so I can show you something new!
Thanks Ingrid,
Blessings, Jeanne
