I spent the biggest part of my afternoon thinking… thinking about what Molly was going to be doing for this next auction on Ebay. Would she be needing a book bag for the first day of school? Would she be entering a singing contest in the school choir? Would she just be modeling a new church dress for you? Going to the circus, as someone suggested?
I looked through posters I had as backdrops and searched my house for just the right props and kept going back to my sewing room empty handed. It was starting to get a little ridiculous and I knew I had to decide on something or I would run out of time to take pictures and get it listed on Ebay. Then I saw all my little animals in a clear container and made a snap decision that she’d be going to the County Fair. I found an old earring display rack that Rebecca used to use at Farmer’s Market and turned it into a place where my “animals” could sit. I had some letters I used to spell out COUNTY FAIR and then I used those little plastic balloons I picked up at the yard sale last week. Before I knew it I had pretty colorful display of animals. My story line was going to be that Molly had won a contest and was now allowed to pick out her favorite animal from the ones on the wall.
So here are a few of my pictures from the listing… sorry they aren’t different than what you’ll see in the listing…
Molly wanted to show you her slip again…
Decisions, decisions… which animal to choose…
I racked my brain out trying to think of one of those fun and easy games you used to play at the fair, to win a prize. I finally asked my hubby if he could think of any of the names of those old time games. The first one he mentioned was “Ring Toss” where you throw the wooden ring over the peg. That was all I needed and off I went to write up my listing…
Oh, and she got a new pair of socks too…
Yes, I DID get it listed and you can see it HERE or click on the picture at the right side bar. It will take you directly to the listing on Ebay.
Charlotte, you were right… I did only have a handful of scraps when I was finished… look…this is all I have!
Well, that’s it for Molly’s new dress. Thanks again to Mary for sending me this fun vintage piece of fabric. I hope I did it justice!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Wow, that sure isn’t a whole lot of fabric left over! But I sure enjoyed seeing what you did with it, as well as (I must confess) drooling over it and wishing it were still avaiable!
So, which animal did Molly choose as her prize?!
HI Charlotte,
I was wondering too… if I lived back in the 1940’s, would this have been a piece of fabric that ended up in my cart? It’s something to think about. It’s a very nice piece of fabric and I’m very pleased at how her dress turned out.
I’ll show you which animal Molly picked tomorrow…
Thanks Charlotte,
Blessings, Jeanne
Yes, the suspense — which animal did Molly choose? I’ll have to go straight to Ebay to find out. Or maybe the buyer will get to choose. I think I’d have one of the tigers.
I always enjoy seeing an outfit complete, but part of the pleasure is anticipating the next one and seeing who’s up next. It’s not yet 5 am, and I’m already looking forward to tomorrow’s blog.
HI Marilyn,
Like I just told Charlotte, I’ll let you know tomorrow which animal Molly chose.
You are so funny…wondering who is next… I don’t even know yet…but I have been mulling some ideas in my head… :o)
Thanks Marilyn,
Blessings, Jeanne
Jeanne, I can’t help but marvel at your continued attention to details…as you make your outfits, the little details you tell us about in your life, choosing fabrics, ribbons, etc….the lovely stories you include in your listings (Molly’s included today!)…it all just makes reading your blogs just like a visit with you.
Molly’s outfit, props, stories, shoes/socks…it’s all so well put together and a shining example to me of doing one’s best work to bless another person. Thanks for such an outstanding display of high quality workmanship, carefulness and thoughtfulness. It’s such a pleasure to “visit” each day.
Take care.
Thank you so much for your sweet comments on my sewing and my blog posts and my Ebay listings too… I appreciate them very much! When you all comment it is like a little visit with each of you! Fun for me! :o)
You have made my day with your compliments on this dress set. I’m so glad you enjoyed it today!
Blessings to you Becky,
~ Jeanne
What a wonderful little “story” you added to Molly’s auction, Jeanne! It’s one of the things that make your auctions so fun to read! I am guessing that you will let the winner pick out the animal that Molly won. You certainly know how to make your auctions more than just a doll dress! I just love the whole set-up and think how wonderful it must be to be the lucky person who wins anything you make!
Wow, that wasn’t a whole lot of material left, was it? The extra bow is a nice touch and maybe this dress will go to someone other than Molly, although Molly is the one I certainly would pick. Kit would look adorable in it too, especially with that big bow in her hair!
It’s terrible hot out, and would you believe, we had NO power yesterday afternoon for 3 whole hours, in the heat of the afternoon? We have no idea why, but this is getting ridiculous! Stay cool, dear Jeanne Marie!
HI Linda,
Yes, the winner will get to choose the animal they like best, but Molly did pick one herself. I’ll show you which one tomorrow. Thanks so much for the compliments on this set. I truly am blessed to have all these compliments. I have the best job in the world, I think!
I think I’m going to make a headband too, out of the one long strip and the hair bow could be clipped to it if the winner likes.
I can’t believe you were out of power yesterday and right at the hottest time of the day. I bet you drank lots of ice water!
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
I just love Molly dresses. You have inspired me to put on my thinking hat to make one real soon. I also love the ring toss idea you added. You always come up with the sweetest stories.
Question: Do you make your socks from scratch? The only tutorials I can find online use a children’s sock which I don’t want to do. It looks like you use a serger to finish the top of the sock, but I am having trouble finding the right fabric to make the sock from.
HI Ann,
I hope you come up with something fun for your Molly a new dress. The Ring Toss was my hubby’s idea… well, the name of the game was his idea… I had already decided she was going to the County Fair.
I did make the socks from scratch. The trick to making socks for the AG dolls is to use a stretch fabric that has a 4 way stretch (stretches in all directions). I did use a serger to finish off the edges of the tops of her socks. I find little girls tights to be the best stretchy fabric to use for socks. It’s sometimes tricky to find the kind that don’t snag and also to find the ones that are nice on both sides because when the top is rolled down the inside shows. Or you can use the wrong side for the foot of the sock and then have the cuff part be the right side showing…
Thanks Ann,
Blessings, Jeanne
Love the county fair/ring toss. I’m sure everyone remembers tossing coins onto stacked dishes trying to win something. And at our school fair, tossing ping pong balls into tiny fish bowls. Memories of kids walking out carrying a bowl with a gold fish. I won a few that way.
HI Joy,
It’s funny you mentioned the ping pong balls being tossed into the fish bowls… That was my hubby’s second game he thought of. I might have to keep my “County Fair” sign and use that game another time…
I remember the coins being tossed too.. gone are the good ole days! Memories for me too!
Thanks Joy,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a cute story, Jeanne! It sounds like Molly and her friends had a lot of fun at the county fair. 😉 I love how resourceful you were in repurposing Rebecca’s earring rack for the animal “prizes,” and the addition of your yard sale balloons was the perfect finishing touch for your display. The balloons and the “County Fair” letters echo the dots on Molly’s dress, and you even provided a final peek at that lovely vintage fabric by using it behind your eBay listing description. You really are a master of detail! It’s so thoughtful of you to give the buyer a choice of the stuffed animals, as I think it allows the buyer to become a part of the story. Well done, Jeanne! I hope this one will go for a good price!
Thank you Anne, for all the sweet comments you made about the process of my listing for Molly’s dress. It was fun trying to fun just the right “something” to use, but it would have been a little more fun if I hadn’t been in such a hurry to get it listed.
I appreciate your sweet comments about my details…
Thank you so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, Jeanne! I forgot to tell you that I appreciated your explanation on how you gathered Molly’s sash at the sides to get those nice pleats to stay in place. I could see from the pictures that it was gathered, but I couldn’t see well enough to tell if you had done it by machine or by hand, and whether or not you used a small piece of elastic. Thank you for taking time to share the process!
You are so welcome Anne,
I hope it was explained well enough for you to understand it…
blessings, Jeanne
