Dolls in striped dresses…and some with big sashes… these are a few of my favorite things…

Sorry, I got a little carried away with my title to this post… :o)

I was driving back home from my mom’s tonight, wondering what in the world could I do for a post on Thursday. I thought: I’ve shown red dresses and pink dresses, and I think all the other colors, and dresses with collars, and dresses with buttons, and polka dot dresses, and dresses with bears, and dresses with lace, so what kind of dresses haven’t I shown? I thought and thought and as I drove home, I wondered if I had ever shown dresses with “stripes?” So, when I got home I checked and I don’t think I have…

Since I’ve spent the last few days visiting with my sister and mom, Molly’s dress is still just the way it was the last time I showed you. I will get it finished as quick as I can, because I know I have lots of Molly lovers out there. But for the next 2 days, I’m going to have to catch up on things here at home, and do a little “extra” lovin’ on my neglected hubby. He’s been making his own dinner for the last 3 nights…bad wife… bad wife!

I wasn’t sure how many dolls I had made striped dresses for, but I found several, some from way back and I thought I’d share them…

I’ll do my “littlest” girls today and my larger dolls tomorrow…

Here’s Isabelle, my 13″ Dianna Effner Little Darling in some pretty stripes…

Okay, that’s only 7 dresses… do you have a favorite striped dress from this bunch? I’ll show you the rest tomorrow…

See you tomorrow,

  1. You found only one striped dress for Patsy, but it was a winner.
It looks like Isabelle can wear anything. I wonder how she’d look in yellow. She’s definitely beautiful in the first blue dress, and I love the white trim on the first pink dress.
You fairly often used a tiny checked trim like the green and white on the first pink dress. You have something similar in black and white. I don’t remember if you’ve done a series of photos demonstrating your use of checked trim, but if not, I’d love to see one. If so, you could send us a link.

Our closest fire is now 80% contained and expected to be 100% by tonight, when the last 400 of the 2000 evacuated people will be allowed to go home — at least 5 homes were burned — luckily the area is not densely populated.

I have not so far found why rick rack is called rick rack (even the Oxford English Dictionary doesn’t know), but I have found some neat ideas. There is “floating” rick rack and rick rack insertions that is quite pretty and would be lovely for doll clothes http://weallsew.com/how-to-sew-decorative-floating-rickrack-trim-and-insertion/ . Or go here http://www.bhg.com/decorating/do-it-yourself/accents/rickrack-trims/#page=0 for braided bands (two colors of rick rack combined into a braid — you may have discovered this as a child — I think it would make a good Civil War era trim) and for what they call “perfect posies” — lovely thickly petaled daisies. These appear on several sites. So do rick rack roses. Put those three words into Google and ask for images.

Susette — how was Harry Potter at Universal? I have friends close by and would like to tell them.

    1. HI Marilyn,
I wasn’t even sure how many doll dresses I had with stripes in the fabric and it was slow going when I first started looking in my pictures. But I did end up finding a fair amount of them after all.
Isabelle does look pretty in blue but yellow… I can only think of one yellow dress I’ve made for her…

      Isabelle in yellow

I’m glad the fires are getting under control… what an awful thing to lose your home to a fire.. it must feel like such a helpless thing to not be able to stop it yourself..

I’ve seen the rick rack twisted together and it does make a neat looking trim. I don’t think I’ve ever tried it on doll clothes…just little girls dresses. I’ll have to do a little “rick rack” investigating myself and see what I see too. I’ll start with your links…

      Thanks so much, Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Not only have you seen the rick rack twisted together — look at the waist of the yellow dress! There it is. I’ll bet some bored little girl invented it while she was waiting to try on the dress her mother was making for her.

        1. HI Marilyn,
I didn’t even realize it when I posted this picture for you… how fun is that?
          Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Hi Jeanne,
Who can resist any of these adorable dresses with the stripes. They are all so cute. I especially like Isabelle’s pink striped dress with the green checked trim. I have to say, this is what I love about your sewing – the tiny details, the tiny trim you add – not only is it perfectly sewn on or in but the detail is perfect for the dress. You have such a good eye for the finishing touches. Like the green checked trim on the pink dress and the lace, bows, buttons and the gathering on the last dress’s blue sash. So cute!
I hope you get caught up on things at home. We all have days like that.

    1. Thank you Paula,
I’m glad you enjoyed looking at my girls in their striped dresses. When I first started looking for them, I didn’t think I had very many at all, but I found several and it made a nice post. The dresses may have been seen before but not all together with the “stripes” as the feature.

I hope to get caught up on a few things around here and just had to take time off from Molly’s dress…although day without sewing for me is pretty rare…so I’ll maybe sneak in a little bit of time for Molly’s dress.
      Thanks so much Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. Thank you Joy,
I think you may be right… Isabelle does look awfully sweet in blue! Thanks for noticing… :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. They’re all beautiful, Jeanne…my first choice is Janie’s pretty in pink dress. You make fabrics “sing” on your pretty dolls.

    Take care.

    1. Hi Becky,
Thanks so much for your sweet compliments on my dresses… I’ve never been told that my fabrics “sing” on my dolls… what a nice thought! I’ll be thinking on that one all day!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Good morning, Jeanne! I hope this will be an easy day of “catch up” for you as you remember the fun visit with your sister and momma. I hope your temperatures have cooled a bit, also.

Sweet in stripes, that’s what these little girls are! Janie’s pink ruffles and bows that went to France are SO sweet, and I think you already know how much I LOVE the red, white, and blue, but OH MY, the provencal blue and white on Isabelle is so charming! That, to me, says French country, and it is so striking on Isabelle. And the trim on Isabelle’s yellow dress does look like braided or intertwined baby rick rack. It’s true, the Little Darlings can wear anything well, and I must agree with Paula, also. Your eye for detail is second to none, Jeanne. Just endearing, all of these designs!

I’m so relieved to hear the fires have been contained without too much destruction, and I’m trusting God to comfort those who have suffered loss. Besides the Red Cross, are there local relief organizations we may contact to help, Marilyn?

Wishing all a blessed, mid-summer Thursday!

    1. HI Anne and thank you very much for your kind words about my doll dresses. I do love details and I’m glad they are noticed… I don’t like fru-fru dresses (whatever those are) but I do try to add just the right amount of details to my girls dresses. Sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less… somehow it always seems just right when I’m done.
I do love Isabelle in that first blue and white striped dress too. My pictures were not good back then, but you can still see the details on the dress… actually when I thought about doing the striped dresses for this post, it was the first one that popped into my mind. I wasn’t sure I even had any more…but thankfully, I did find a few…

Thanks so much for your concern about the fires in Marilyn’s area… what a sweet thought.
I’ve done my grocery shopping and now it’s time to hit the house with some cleaning…
      Thanks for your comments Anne,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Patsy’s vintage-looking dimity is my favorite, although the pink stripe on Janie (and the matching one on Isabelle) would be a close second.

On Patsy’s dress, is that a tiny lace applique at the neck, or something you cut out of a bigger piece of lace? Inquiring minds want to know! LOL
