Well, it’s taken me a little longer than usual to get this dress “completely” finished, but I’m loving it and hope you will too. I managed to get it listed on Ebay so you can see it HERE, or click on the picture at the right side bar and it will take your directly to the auction. —>
What do you say, let’s just skip all the chit chat and just get to some pictures first thing.
I guess you can see I found my glue gun that was missing yesterday. My hubby found it on a top shelf in my sewing room. I certainly didn’t put it up that high so I’m guessing Rebecca did here while back when were weeding things out in my sewing room. I was just glad it hadn’t gotten thrown away. I think her hat turned out really sweet!
Now a few of you asked about Felicity’s fichu… the lace scarf used at her neck. It was an applique that I’ve had for years, never knowing just what to do with it. I was looking through my “stash of laces” and stumbled upon it… (great stumble, by the way) and decided with a bit of tweaking it would be a perfect fichu.
I took a picture of it the way it is now and then a drawing of what I did to it.. I hope you can understand. It had a cut out up the middle of it and I had to round off the back of it to fit better on Felicity’s neck. Then I had to turn back the flaps just a bit so they didn’t pop out. I gathered the bottom edge and made a narrow loop with a snap on the end to fasten around the tails of the fichu. You can also use tiny clear rubber bands and not use the loop. I already have the clear bands ready for the winner.
If you decide to use it tucked inside the Caraco, put it on your doll first and just criss cross the tails, tucking them under the peplum sections. It’s pretty versatile.
Well, I guess this is it for Felicity’s Colonial dress set. I think I’m kind of sad…that it’s all over. Time for something new!
If you missed the link at the top, you can see the listing on Ebay HERE.
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
The whole outfit turned out beautifully, Jeanne! I love how you did the fichu–very creative use of a piece of lace that may not have worked well for you on something else.
I have to say, her little jam jar is absolutely perfect!! Just the right scale, too. (yes, I read how you did it on the previous post–will have to keep that idea in mind! DH may have some old model paint in a drawer somewhere….)
Thank you Charlotte,
I’m pleased with it and in fact, I might be a little “too pleased!” I’m afraid this one might sting just a bit when I pack it up!
Art projects are so much fun when you don’t know what you’re doing but work until you figure it out… :o)
Thanks so much for your kind words…
Blessings, Jeanne
The outfit is wonderful. I love the way the fichu can be worn two ways, and the elegant neatness of the jacket with the sweep of the skirt. The colors are perfect for Felicity. Rebecca’s necklace is just the right finishing touch.
I keep wondering what the fichu lace was designed for — it’s an odd shape for anything but this. I’m so glad you found it — and the glue gun. The outfit is finished, the glue gun is found — I wonder what else ended up on that high shelf. I think you and George and Rebecca deserve a trip to Cool Spoons to celebrate.
HI Marilyn,
Thank you for your “always kind” remarks about Felicity’s dress set. This one may have taken longer than normal, but I really enjoyed the journey of making it.
I think maybe the lace applique was made to go over the shoulders and then down the front but possibly left open in the middle for buttons? who knows…
Oooooo….Cool Spoons sounds like a wonderful idea. I like the way you think… :o)
Blessings, Jeanne
Felicity looks wonderful in her new dress. 🙂
Thanks so much Christine,
I’ll tell Felicity you love her new look! I’m sure she’ll smile!
Blessings, Jeanne
Perfect in every way! Love your creativity in putting an outfit together, including accessories. Felicity looks happy to finally be able to show us her new ensemble!
HI Karen,
Felicity was excited to get the whole outfit completely finished… as I was! After I get an outfit photographed and listed on Ebay, I like to leave it on my cutting table for a day or so and just look at it… It was a really fun one to make…
Thanks so much for your sweet comments!
Blessings, Jeanne
Jeanne, you certainly make your dolls look fantastic…your works just make the dolls look about the best anyone could…you’re a gifted designer and seamstress. This is a really, really outfit that just makes Felicity look beautiful. Thanks for taking us along.
Take care.
HI Becky and thank you for your kind compliments on it.
I had to laugh… you’ve made a typo on your comment, and so I was able to “fill it in” with whatever word I wanted… sometimes it’s “really _____ outfit…”
Thanks for that… I’ve already used up about 10 adjectives! :o)
Blessings, Jeanne
Hi Jeanne,
Felicitys dress is just lovely! What a talented lady you are. I also have disappearing hot glue guns. Hubby laughs at me when I run out to Walmart to buy another. I believe there are currently four hiding out. Have an awesome day
HI Ingrid,
I had 2 in my glue gun box… but both have been found… You better keep looking… they are probably hiding on a top shelf somewhere! :o)
Thank you for your sweet compliments on Felicity’s dress.
Blessings, Jeanne
Good morning, Jeanne. Don’t you love that feeling, right after an outfit is finished, especially when it turns out as special as Felicity’s has turned out? The feeling, for me, is a kind of euphoria, very fleeting, but keeps me excited to start again on something new.
I know you think Felicity’s new ensemble took forever, but I really enjoyed seeing its progress day-to-day. Thanks for sharing all the steps with us.
Hope you have a very nice Thursday, Jeanne.
HI Cindy,
I do love that feeling when something is finally finished, everything is in place, it’s listed and a bid is even on it… I get that same feeling… sort of sigh of relief almost.
It’s funny you say that about it making you excited to start something new. Last night after I got up from the computer… I think it took me 3 hours to get it listed… (Rebecca kept interrupting me….) I got up and was walking around the house, trying to get in some steps on my fitbit. As I went through the kitchen one time, I mentioned to Rebecca, “Okay, now that Felicity is taken care of, who should I do next!” :o)
I’ve got to do some dishes today… yesterday I was gone a big part of the day at the Food Pantry and then I came home, made the hat, got the pics taken, listed and then it was time to write a post, so not much was done around here.. Gotta rectify that today!
My hubby and Rebecca both just left, so I better get busy!
Thanks Cindy,
Blessings, Jeanne
Absolutely breath taking! Another beautiful creation, Jeanne. The lace is divine and the whole overall look is sensational. I love your story too about Felicity entering her jam in the fair. What a great way to introduce her in her beautiful outfit. Her little basket is so cute.
Fabulous work!!
Thank you Paula,
Ooooo. …. I like “breathtaking!” That’s a nice way to describe Felicity’s new dress set! Thank you so much! I’m glad you like it Paula…
Blessings, Jeanne
Felicity’s green eyes are sparkling with excitement. Fun in old Colonial times and a lovely dress to wear.
Thanks so much Joy,
I’m glad you said what you did about the prizes at the fair… or I might not have thought to do the blue ribbon… Thanks for the inspiration! Keep it up…
Blessings, Jeanne
Finally, I’m able to see the pictures! When I first opened the blog, the pictures were just plain black! I KNOW it’s my computer, Jeanne, so don’t worry about it. I had to work at church this morning so just left it until I got back to see if it works, and it does now
Such a beautiful creation for Felicity! She really looks so elegant in this outfit, and the colors are just right for her! I absolutely LOVE the lace fichu! Now I see how you made a band to put around it, and it makes a darling accessory along with that beautiful necklace! I like it that it can also be used for another outfit possibly. I have a few of those lace collars or whatever they were, probably an embellishmen,t for dresses a long time ago from my mother-in-law. Maybe I could see if I could make Felicity one from one that I have. It probably was for a child’s outfit. Good heavens, a child wearing something so delicate!
The hat turned out so pretty too, and that jam jar is perfect with the dress! You will be SO sad to wrap this outfit up and send it off!
HI Linda,
I think you might be right about sending this one off…it’s been a long time since I felt this way about a doll outfit. I think it’s because I have so much time invested in it… must be…
Thanks for your sweet compliments on everything about it… I really enjoyed every part of making it…and it looks so sweet on Felicity… that helps!
Have a great day Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a masterpiece of Colonial charm! The fitted waist compliments the peplum and full petticoat so nicely, and the tiny berries on the jacket are so sweet and play right into your storyline. And the beautiful little fichu–there are no words! Though we follow your process intently, sometimes nothing can prepare us for the final reveal. You have truly outdone yourself with this one, Jeanne!
I can definitely relate to your missing glue gun. We all craft here, and my tools often go missing. This time it was a pair of jewelry pliers. I spent the better part of the afternoon looking for them. We always celebrate both my daughter’s and my son’s BDs during the weekend of the 4th (their BDs are only 4 days apart), and I just finished my daughter’s gift yesterday–a Bohemian style dream catcher. I will send you pix, but only know how to send from my phone to your email, as my son is not here to help!
Once again, you have created such a lovely, lovely outfit for Felicity. I know you will be sending a little piece of your heart along with it to the winner.
Wishing you and all your readers a fabulous 4th celebration!
HI Anne,
As lovely as I think Felicity’s dress set is… I may have goofed! I had it end on the evening of the 4th of July… NOT GOOD TIMING! Silly me! I’ve already gotten a bid, so I don’t want to change it, but I should have looked at the calendar ahead of time before listing it.
I would love to see your dream catcher… I’ll be watching for a picture from you.
Thanks so much for your very kind words about Felicity’s dress. I do like this one very much and I think you’re right… a piece of my heart might go along with this one…
Happy early 4th to you too!
Blessings, Jeanne
Absolutely beautiful. This is one I wish, wish , wish I had dolly money to spend on. I truly think this may be my favorite dress I’ve seen you make, not that they’re not all beautiful, just something exquisite about this one. I’ve been very, very good and have bought no doll things since December. Felicity looks lovely and I know I’m sad to see her go as a model. You really NEED to sew for her quite often. At least every third dress .LOL I truly think if I had made this one, I wouldn’t let it go. I’ll also have to look at appliques differently when I’m at the store to see how they can be repurposed. I have Josefina’s mantilla from her Christmas dress that I took apart to use as a Civiil War shawl when I get a dress made. I know, I know changing an AG item is criminal but I don’t have Josefina and that and her black fan work better my way to me.
Do you have plans for who’s next?? Cvil War is my vote!!
HI Laura,
Thank you so much for all your sweet words about Felicity’s dress… I think it definitely is my favorite Colonial dress ever. I made a red and white one that Elizabeth modeled and this one is right up there with that one. I appreciate all the things you mentioned about it. Truly I do! I’m pretty sure one of my Effner girls will be up next and then I’m going to do a dress for Molly. Maybe a Civil War one after that… I DO love the Civil War dresses too, so I’m right there with you!
Thanks so much Laura,
Blessings, Jeanne
