I wasn’t sure who to pick next for a dress so I did a little backtracking seeing who had modeled last for me. It went something like this… Kirsten, the Sister Set girls, Lian in lavender, Janie in Me and Teddy, Julie in the pink paisly, Trixie Tonner in blue, and so on and so forth. I went back to before Christmas and noticed it had been quite a while since Felicity had gotten to wear anything new. It was actually 24 dresses ago! That’s too long I thought, so I pulled her from the back row of the doll shelf and gave her a good hard look and decided yes, she’d be next. It was confirmed to me that I had made the right decision when Barbara sent me those pictures of Felicity yesterday. She is much too sweet to be forgotten.
Next I had the daunting task of figuring out what fabric to use for a Colonial dress. I’m not kidding, I bet I had 12 different prints and a few trims on my cutting table. I just couldn’t decide, so I asked Rebecca to help me pick one. She looked at the choices I had on the table, then reached over to my fabrics on the shelf and pulled out this really pretty minty green and sort of deep rust tiny print. She found my linens and there was a green that was a perfect match. She asked me if I liked it and when I said I did, she said, I’ve got an idea for a necklace. She went to her room and came back with something very pretty.
I won’t keep you in suspense any longer… Here are the fabrics and the necklace she made…
I decided to do a little tweaking on the pattern I wanted to use, so I made a prototype out of a bright green and then made the changes on it and transferred them to the pattern pieces.
Here’s a close up of the necklace with the fabric. Isn’t it pretty?
In this shot I’ve taken a piece of linen for the petticoat and pinned it around her hips so you can see how it goes with the jacket.
Lots to do still, but I wanted to show you who was next and what “little” bit I got done on it. Stay tuned for more…. :o)
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Hi Jeanne,
I’ve been playing catch-up–I haven’t gotten your blog for the last two days!! Not sure why….I have checked the box at the bottom, though, just to make sure I’ll keep getting your posts.
I loved seeing the feed sacks and vintage trims–what a treat!! I am thinking I might even have a piece of one of them–pink dwirls on white with blue flowers–somewhere in my stash!
Although I’m not a huge fan of the more subdued colors, I have to agree that those greens you’ve chosen for Felicity are wonderful on her, and the necklace really picks up the colors in the print!
Today I had to take my sewing machine in for REPAIRS….as in, it quit! Well, jammed, actually….timing is probably off. I hope that’s all it is! In the meantime, I’ll get out one of my others….fortunately I have three extras!!
HI Charlotte,
My webmaster just got back from Kenya on Wednesday but I’m definitely going to ask her abut the issues people are having with not getting some posts and some not being able to post their comments… I just wanted to give her a few days to get over her jet-lag before I asked her about it.
The flour sacks really are fun to look at… such fun designs…
I tried a few different blues, another green, a cream and white print, but the green seems to look prettiest on her.
Oh NO…not the dreaded jammed machine! My heart always sinks when my machines don’t work like they’re supposed to… I hope you get it back soon and hope it’s not too expensive of a fix!
Thanks Charlotte,
Blessings, Jeanne
My girlfriend Liz said that being without that machine was probably like having both my arms cut off. I think she’s right! LOL
After I wrote the above, I did get this post in my inbox, so maybe yesterday’s not getting it was just a fluke. I’m all updated now, though…..
Oh, what pretty fabrics you have chosen, Jeanne….and pretty necklace from Rebecca to add to the outfit. I think you got alot done yesterday with the pattern tweaking, etc. I’m looking forward to seeing what a beautiful creation will come of this new beginning.
Take care.
Thank you Becky,
I think Rebecca did well picking this fabric out. Felicity likes it too… I was thinking of blue, but when I saw this green against her skin and hair, and how it make her eyes pop… I was sold!
I’m hoping to get some time to work on it… I have some dear friends coming in tonight through Sunday… They aren’t staying with me, but I’ll want to spend time with them…
Thanks Becky,
Blessings, Jeanne
I didn’t get the email from Jeanne that connected to the post for yesterday either. Rather than get worried about Jeanne, I clicked on an email delivering the post from the day before (22nd) and clicked on Blog at the top and the current day’s post (23rd) showed up. Another unexplained mystery.
Love the print, the necklace and the pattern adjustment. Looking forward to seeing it finished.
Hi Susette,
Like I told Charlotte, I’m going to have to have Sarah look into the reasons for a few of the kinks happening on my blog…
I hope you won’t be disappointed in what I do to Felicity’s dress… :o)
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, so pretty, Jeanne! Are those strawberries on the print? it looks like it, and this is strawberry time, you know! I love Felicity in green, besides being my favorite color, it makes her looks so good with those pretty green eyes!
Rebecca’s necklace is just perfect, but is it a bracelet for women or how did she happen to have it sitting around that matched your fabric so perfectly?
I can’t wait to see what the rest of the dress will look like! It seems that there are so few dresses that are made that I really like for her. Yours always are perfection!
I am going to the AG store in an hour or so to see the new release. Not getting anything that I know of, oh, maybe a little item or two, but I want to see the Wellie Wishers, and to get out of the house! This heat is killing me!!!
Thanks Linda,
I think they may be strawberries on the fabric… that’s a nice thought…since it’s strawberry time here… just about over, but still a few left at some stands.
Rebecca didn’t have the necklace made up already…she went to her room with a scrap of the fabric and came OUT with the necklace. She made it specifically for Felicity’s dress.
Thank you for your kind words Linda… I know green is your favorite color, so if you like it, hopefully everyone else will…
I just saw those Wellie Wishers yesterday and they are adorable! I’m having to contain myself not to get one… I like Willa, the little strawberry blonde/reddish headed one… but they are all sweet. I’d love to hear your thoughts on them…
My hubby came home wiped out yesterday from the heat. He wasn’t looking too forward to being in it again today…
Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, I thought the Wellie Wishers were just darling! Of course, everything they have is in really BRIGHT colors, and more like costumes, but they have darling faces, even though the eyes do not close. They work very well as little sisters for the 18 inchers I think, but will need more clothes that are not so, well, cartoonish, but maybe that is what they were going for, since they are made for the smaller girls. Overall, I thought they were really cute!
I love the material you and Rebecca chose for Felicity’s dress. So summery and fresh looking.
Can’t wait to see more of it. The necklace is perfect for the dress.
It will be exciting to see tomorrow’s blog.
HI Paula and thanks for your compliments on the little bit I was able to show you today. I think when I get the full petticoat underneath the jacket it will look much better.
Thanks so much for commenting…
Blessings, Jeanne
Hi Jeanne,
Boy, am I behind in my comments on your blog, I’ve been reading and enjoying your posts though. I love Kirsten’s dress and the Maypole prop you made, BTW. Kirsten’s bodice embroidery is colorful and perfect! Her entire ensemble has summertime written all over it. And, Joy’s photos were cute, especially the gang around her Maypole.
I must say our daughters are better at this stuff than we are, aren’t they? What a great resource or sounding board they are! I love Felicity in mint green and Rebecca’s necklace is perfect with the print. Happy sewing today…hopefully.
HI Cindy,
I’m worse than you at commenting on your blog. I read it in the morning, (laying in bed, using my ipad), but I can type so much faster on my desktop computer, I always tell myself I’ll wait and comment when I get up… but it always seems to elude me… sorry!
Thanks for all your kind comments about things from the last few days. I do hope to find some time for sewing today…
I loved looking at all the patterns you had listed today. I’m still wanting to set up a store on my website, but I checked the prices for it and it’s not cheap… maybe I’ll do it your way after all!
Thanks Cindy,
Blessings, Jeanne
I, too, never received yesterday’s email from you. I just assumed life had gotten in the way and you had to miss a day. I went back and saw it under your blog menu, and what a wonderful selection of trims and flour sack fabrics! Isn’t it great to have sisters that keep us in mind with sewing supplies!
I love the fabric that Rebecca found for you to use for Felicity’s next outfit! I can already tell it will be wonderful! The necklace will be the perfect accessory to her outfit. What an eye your daughter has for design! Can’t wait to see your finished outfit for Felicity!
Hi Karen,
Sorry about your emails being messed up too…
Sisters are great about finding things for us, aren’t they?
I think Felicity’s dress will be nice too… after I saw the green next to her face, I thought it was a winner…
Thanks Karen,
Have a nice day,
Blessings, Jeanne
I’ve had the same problem receiving the blog as Susette. This morning I had yesterdays. Todays has not shown up so I had to refresh to view it.
Anyway, love the fabric chosen for Felicity. So fun to see the steps in design and completion. The necklace is perfect.
HI Joy,
Well, it seems like this “getting my blog posts thing” is getting worse… I know nothing about that technical stuff, but I will get it figured out soon. So sorry…
I’m glad you like Felicity’s dress so far…
Blessings, Jeanne
What a lovely print for Felicity!! I thought it was a long time since she was up. The pale green and rusty red set off her hair and eyes beautifully. I’m with linda, I think those are strawberries. Here’s a storyline for you if you’d like it. Felicity is attending the town fair ( My Felicity will soon get into her Town Fair with windmill outfit) and has brought an entry of sweet strawberry jam. I’ve actually seen little correctly sized jars at Jo Ann’s.
I’ve have to head out and do some yard work because it’s only mid 70’s right now.
HI Laura,
Thanks for all your comments and you can bet I’ll be looking at Joann’s for those little jars… sounds like the perfect story line to me!!!
Thanks for the ideas…
Blessings, Jeanne
I love it!! Was hoping and will patiently wait for a new dress for AG Molly!
Have a wonderful week-end!
HI Robin,
I almost did Molly, but when I moved her, I saw Felicity in the back and you know the rest of the story.. Don’t give up waiting… Molly will be up soon.. I promise…
Blessings, Jeanne
I, too, did not receive your blog in my inbox yesterday, Jeanne, but I tried this “trick” to view it: I went to yesterday’s entry, which was still in my inbox, clicked on the title, then clicked on “Blog” and up it came! It seems Susette did the same. Perhaps your computer had a “glitch,” a word my son says customers at the Apple Store use all the time! LOL!
I see Rebecca has inherited your good eye, Jeanne! What a lovely little necklace she has made, and it is the perfect accessory for the chosen fabric. I, too, will try to wait patiently for the next Jeanne Marie original to be completed. I’m sure there will be a few surprises along the way!
Wishing you a good weekend, the last of June already!
Hi Anne,
Oh dear, my posts are sort of getting more random to my readers each and every day…I’ll get it fixed as soon as I possibly can.
Yes, Rebecca has a good eye for color and design… I’m glad she helped me out, as I was pretty stumped on what to use.
I love to surprise my readers, so maybe there will be a surprise or two along the way getting Felicity’s dress finished…
I hope your weekend is a great one too…
Blessings, Jeanne
That shade of green is perfect for Felicity, and the necklace goes so well with it. I have no doubt I am going to love this outfit! The kids and grandkids just left and now I need to get the house back in order, so this won’t be a long comment!
HI Carolyn,
Thanks for taking even a moment to catch a glimpse of my post today. Sounds like you’ve had a busy day… It’s taken me a few days to get my house back in order since I was visiting over at my mom’s last week…I wasn’t even here but it got messy!
Thanks for your sweet compliments on Felicity’s dress.
Blessings, Jeanne
