Well, if you are wondering where Patsy’s blue dress listing went… Ebay removed it… They said I had it listed in the wrong category! It was listed under Tonner, with the Ann Estelle collection, but Ebay says it can only be listed under Modern Doll Clothes and Accessories. Something about buyers getting confused as to what is actually for sale, the doll or the dress… They have restricted my selling privileges for 3 days so I can’t relist it for a few days. I still have Julie’s dress listed because it was listed under clothes and accessories. AAAARRRGGG!
Yesterday I did a post on “Why I buy more fabric when I already have plenty!” (HERE) and I got such great responses…It was so neat to read everyone’s comments. Even if you aren’t that big into collecting fabric, I think you can see that we who do, all think alike!
I wasn’t sure I should tell my hubby what that post was about… after all, he might have a quick comeback like, “Yeah, why do you buy more fabric all the time?” but instead, he surprised me… The conversation went something like this…
“Boy, am I ever getting some great comments about my post today…”
“Oh, yeah, what’d you write about today?”
gulp…gulp… “My title for today was “Why do I buy more fabric when I already have plenty” gulp…again…
“Well, I’d say it’s because you have a business and you can’t use old stuff and outdated fabrics… you have to use what’s most popular today and keep up with the trends that people want. Some of your stuff is from a long time ago and is that really what your dolls want to wear?”
I was shocked and wanted to just say a big, “YES AND AMEN!” but I just smiled…
He gets me…he totally gets me and what I do!
So, in honor of my wonderful hubby who lets me buy fabric when I don’t really need to, I found some sewing and fabric quotes to share with you.
See which one makes you laugh the most…or which one speaks to your heart the most… that might be the same thing…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
I loved yesterday’s comments. I checked out Fabric.com. With Elfride’s Fine Fabrics here in town, I can probably live without it, but in some of the places where I’ve lived, having Fabric.com might be a real life saver. It’s customer appreciation month there, so it might be a good time to take a look.
Betty Atwell introduced me to Farmhouse Fabrics.com, which is also a nice place to browse. I want to go live in a couple of their pictures. If only we could feel the fabric.
I have been reading All in a Don’s Day, selections from the blog by British historian Mary Beard, who teaches at Cambridge and presents programs on Greek and Roman history for BBC2. (She is sometimes confused with the American historian Mary Beard, who died in 1953.) Her blog has been going since 2006. When the book was published, the blog had been active for 6 years, which, she says, by usual blog standards, put it in late middle age. She recommends not more than 2 posts a week on a regular basis (she sometimes does three), saying, “Don’t post every day…; you’ll never keep it up.” She recommends trying to attract a community of readers who will comment “thoughtfully, wittily, and politely.” I imagine her looking at your blog, posted daily, with replies to every reader entry. Congratulations on a job well done.
OH Marilyn,
At your bidding, I took a look at Fabric. com and they certainly have everything a seamstress or crafter could possibly want. I’ll have to take another peek when I have more time. It looks like it’s set up very well too…user friendly! Yikes!
I just got a notice from Farmhouse Fabrics the other day and was practically drooling over some white with cherries on it trim…it had a red scalloped thread edging… I had to delete the email last night! Yikes again!
Thanks for that note about Mary’s blog. I might have to check her out… in between leaving comments for my “own” readers! So I should only blog 2-3 times a week… I’m just the opposite, I’m thinking if I let myself skip a day, I’d want to skip another and that would be the end of I Dream of Jeanne Marie. I think I can find something to share each day… when I can’t, maybe it’s time to quit!
Thanks so much, Marilyn,

I forgot. I vote for Maggie Smith and for Violet, the lovely dowager duchess of Grantham.
HI again,
A well chosen quote! You can almost hear her saying the words, can’t you?
Blessings, Jeanne
I’m not so smartie! After reading the post, I went out yesterday and bought a piece of the Fourth of July fabric to replace what I’d used for a Molly dress for Riya just because I liked the print so much. Of course another cute heart piece jumped into my basket, but at just 1/2 a yard, no harm done, right? Just correcting the record. The first saying is obviously me.
Your husband is the best. Can’t believe he just came out with that astute analysis of your need for fabric stash right off the top of his head. Kudos, George!
HI Susette,
Well, don’t feel bad…. last week I bought 2 pieces of coordinating Patriotic fabrics… and I told myself I needed BOTH to make some “sister” dresses… Now I just have to figure out which of my 2 dolls are going to be the sisters! :o)
I know, can you believe what he said? I wished I had a recording of it… I’d play it over and over again… especially when fabric shopping!
Blessings, Jeanne
My hubby feels the same way about my fabric and beads. It’s nice to have the stuff on hand, rather than get halfway through a project and realize you don’t have something you need.
I have heard from a lot of different people that Ebay is doing that to everyone. Now, no one can find anything on Ebay in the right categories. If anything, they have confused people more.
HI Christine,
It’s nice when our men know what makes us happy and goes along with it, isn’t it? Glad you have one too!
I heard of one lady who was selling doll wigs and they pulled her listings and made her list them in doll clothes and accessories, so she complained and they made her list them in Toys and Hobbies… She was furious and had been doing doll wigs for years and years. Plus she made her living selling wigs so it really was bad for her…
Thanks Christine,
Blessings, Jeanne
My husband is very supportive. He has his own woodworking shop behind our house. He has replaced our wood deck, made most of our patio furniture and a large play structure for the grandkids. We are both retired and very happy creating! When I am buying fabric in a fabric store I always seem to get the question “What are you making?”
My answer now is “I think I just collect fabric!”
HI Marsha,
I think men who collect things themselves have a better understanding of why we might have a need to pick up a few extra pieces of fabric now and then. I do the same thing to my hubby when he’s at Lowe’s in the tools department… “What are you looking for, honey?” “Oh, I’m just looking… I could really use one of these…” I just say, “Well then get it if you need it!” and then I smile!
Thanks Marsha,
Blessings, Jeanne
Great postings yesterday and today, Jeanne. Computer issues lost my response yesterday but here’s my comment on your fabric: I get it!
Today’s posting…I think I’d say: I have enough fabric said NO seamstress ever.
For those of us who like color, designs, beauty, choices, it’s hard to stop and just say no.
So sorry about the ebay issues.
Take care.
HI Becky,
I bet all of my readers have stopped and taken a look at their fabric over the last 2 days. I know I have and even though I don’t want EVERY piece of fabric out there, it’s nice to know I can get some of them occasionally if I want to. It’s amazing to think how much I have accumulated in 30 years… I keep thinking I need to downsize, but then I ask myself, “why?”
Thanks Becky,
Blessings, Jeanne
Guess I’m confused about the bay. I usually look under Ann Estelle and things pop up. Sometimes I add in Tonner or Engelbreit. You would think that the same things would appear but they do not. Rarely would I look under modern doll. The 2nd to the last is me. Need bigger craft/sewing/doll room.
Hi Joy,
I think some people use the side menu on the categories and narrow down their searches…if they are searching for a doll only, they don’t want people’s clothes that are for sale, in those listings.
As long as you just type in the doll artist… usually just the last name… ie… Effner, Tonner, Wiggs, Kish, American Girl, etc and then the name of the doll, or what size it’s for, say, Patsy Tonner, or American Girl Addy, or Effner 13″ or Effner Little Darlings, things will be okay for me…
It’s kind of crazy to me. The Trixie Tonner category only had 13 listings in it… so why did I need to separate my things from the doll listings? Some people are mad too, because as they look at the dolls, they love to look at the clothes available too.
So you need a bigger room, huh? Maybe knock out a wall… :o)
Blessings, Jeanne
I’m finally chiming in here, Jeanne! I just wonder if you are upset with me for asking why you collect so much fabric when you already have a lot. I hope I didn’t ruffle any feathers!
Since I really don’t do much sewing anymore, I can’t really identify with most of those sayings, but the one with the bobbin running out of thread, not knowing about it and merrily sewing along, DID strike a chord with me—-because it has happened so many times!
You and George were meant for each other! Can you imagine having a hubby that would rather spend all his time at the golf course?
HI Linda,
You absolutely didn’t phase me a bit by your questions… in fact, it was kind of fun for me to think about those questions and try to put words to them… don’t worry at all about it… It turned out to be fun too! My feather’s don’t get ruffled too much…unless maybe it’s something silly like what Ebay did…
Actually the one with the bobbin running out was my favorite in this lot too! It just happened to me yesterday! It just made me have that crooked kind of smile on my face when I read that one!
No, I can’t imagine any other hubby for me… we are two peas in a pod. He’s helping a student with a project right now…
Blessings, Jeanne
Hi Jeanne,
Sorry about your listing, what a shame that they have such silly rules. I love all you sewing cartoons. I have one saved on my pc that I just love ..Im going to email it to you maybe you will share it with the girls. Your hubby is a very smart man, I think he gets you and that’s so awesome!
Enjoy your weekend
Ingrid
hi again, I just went to send you the cartoon but your contact me link above gave me this message. “contact-form-7 404 “Not Found”
I don’t have your email in my address book. If you’d like to share it I’ll send it to you.
HI Ingrid,
Yes, back when I was having troubles with my computer something messed up with my contact page. It hasn’t gotten straightened out yet but I hope to next week.
I got your cartoon and you might see it tomorrow!
Thanks so much!
Blessings, Jeanne
How annoying of eBay. I sometimes wonder about the categories things are in. When I was collecting for Felicity I would sometimes find things that came up that weren’t Felicity’s or PC/AG for that matter. I think it should be pretty obvious that if you are selling a dress, the doll isn’t for sale. Those are all fantastic!! My favorites are the few yards from being featured on Hoarders and Cousin Violet’s statement. Violet’s actually is the best to go with George’s, after all, you don’t want your girls to look out of date, now do you?
As a dolly seamstress you collect dolls, fabric, notions, and props, while us collectors collect dolls, clothes and accessories. I think it’s about the same. 🙂
Thanks Laura,
I think Ebay is just kind of micromanaging things right now… I guess as long as I have all the information about what I’m selling in the title and keep it in the category Ebay tells me to, I should be okay. But it will cut out some ladies who search by the menu at the left.
I can’t do anything about it.
I think we all collect something, whether we know it or not… I love what I collect and I know you love what you collect as well… everyone’s happy!
Thanks so much Laura,
Blessings, Jeanne
