Some Saturday Stories to Share…

For Mother’s Day I told my mom we would take a day and go to a nearby town and go shopping. Today was that day. We headed out this morning and went to a new shop I’ve found that has all kind of “home” things in it… furniture, trinkets, pictures, and lots of other things. It changes all the time as they buy out estates and they’re always redoing something by painting it. We didn’t buy anything in there, but it was fun to just look at things.

Next we went to the antique store where my hubby got my china cabinet. We moseyed (I’ve-never-used-that-word-in-writing-before-but-it-just-seemed-like-the-right-one) around the store and picked up a few things but decided to pass. Then we went to another one, but it turned out to be too junky to me… perhaps all my weeding out has made an impact on me! :o) Then we hit one more and did the same thing there… looked around but when our stomachs started growling we decided it was time for lunch.

We had gotten Cool Spoons Frozen Yogurt gift cards for Mother’s Day from church and we both had ours with us, so we did something really bad… we skipped lunch and went straight for dessert. Every town should have a Cool Spoons. They have every flavor of frozen yogurt imaginable and you serve yourself with a pull-down-the-lever kind of machine. I picked Strawberry Sensation and Salted Caramel Pretzel for mine and my mom picked Peanut Butter yogurt. I usually get just a little bit of the yogurt and then load up on the “toppings!” There isn’t ANYTHING that you can think of that they don’t have for a topping… pecans, walnuts, chopped up Ande’s mints, chocolate covered white pretzels, Famous Amos mini cookies, jelly bellies, strawberries, chocolate chips, kit kat bites, Fruit Loops, Reeses mini cups, hot fudge, and it just goes on and on… they even have bacon!! We loaded up our cups and had the BEST LUNCH! Delish! It’s .49 cents an ounce and I used all of my $5.00 card except .22 cents and my mom used all of her gift card except .38 cents… We were good shoppers for our toppings!

Then we were fired up to do a little more shopping… it was a nice day to spend together.

I got home late and my hubby asked me to give him a haircut, and then there was supper to make…

Reuben chewed up his foam pad he lays on so I had to sweep up the pieces of that. What a mess!

Which brings me to now… This sounds more like a daily diary post than a dolly blog post… sorry about that.

I did get one thing accomplished which I’m quite proud of myself for… I fixed my “Contact Me” tab at the top of my blog post… you can now send me an email if you like. Just click on the tab and it tells you what to fill in.

I’ve been researching what is the best online ecommerce sites. I’d like to add a page or a sidebar link where I can list things for sale and sell them right from here…you know, have an online store of some kind. The one I looked at the most was Shopify. Does anyone out in my reader audience who has a blog on WordPress, use Shopify and if so, do you like it?

I don’t like it when there are no pictures, so here’s a couple I’ll share with you. This one is a picture of all the little girls and ladies patterns I discarded last night… I thought I might lay awake last night thinking of all those patterns I said, “pass” to and maybe sneak out at midnight and dig through the box and see if there was something I might want to take back, but I didn’t. I never even thought about them…

Just so you don’t get the idea that things are beautiful in my sewing room and I’m holding out on you… here’s a dose of reality for you! You know what they say…sometimes it gets worse before it gets better… this picture was taken before MORE purging was done, so it’s not this bad right now…

But wait… look an empty drawer… it never looked so beautiful!

…and look here too… you can see the “backs” of my bookshelves and the walls up on top! That’s something I haven’t seen in a long time…

Rebecca tells me it’s not organized yet…it’s just weeded out somewhat and now we know what we have to work with and can decide where things will go. It’s getting there…

Well, I’m sorry I don’t have anything more exciting to share with you… but maybe tomorrow… I am working on deciding who’s next to get a spot on my cutting table!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. I looked Cool Spoons up to see how large a chain it is. So far there might be two stores, one in Carbondale and one in Marion (this one might be being constructed). There are pictures, but Jeanne’s word picture is the best one so far. It looks like it has a future, and if so, you heard about it here first. The pictures show the variety of sundaes you could create. If you are close, it looks worth the trip.

At least I don’t have to envy your antique shopping. My sister will be here in less than three hours to drive us to Longmont, CO, for the Strawberry Festival, the big, twice-a-year antique sale with vendors from Colorado and nearby states. No yogurt, but there will be homemade strawberry shortcake. The fall sale is called Pumpkin Pie Days, with homemade soup and pumpkin pie.

I had been picturing a clean, nearly sterile sewing room. These pictures make me feel much better. Cleaning really does take time and thought. Wow, whole empty drawers. That should last minutes. Save one for the next trip to Paducah.

By the way, I’m the one who got Julie’s pink dress. This is one you need to see in real life. The fabric is lighter than many cottons, so that it’s airy but still has a lot of body and the details show up well. You know how some outfits make an American Girl look like a real live girl? This is one of those. The hat brim has just enough give for that slightly floppy 70s look. This dress is an instant favorite. Don’t you love it when you luck out this way?

    1. HI Marilyn,
I can’t believe you looked up Cool Spoons… and after you did.. I did too! Their pictures DO NOT do the place justice. It is so impressive to walk into and see all the tubes filled with every kind of candy and topping you can imagine. I should have taken pictures myself, but I didn’t even think of it…

Oh yum… strawberry shortcake… be still my heart! I’m sure you’re going to have a fun day! Oh… I want to come to Colorado!

I’m glad I showed at least a few pics of my room… so you all didn’t think I was kidding when I said it was a mess.. . now you can see first hand…
My sister has been sending me pictures all day of her cleaning frenzy in PA… pantry’s, closets, under the sink… all kinds of things going on at her house! It must be catchy…

Yes, thank you again Marilyn, for buying Julie’s dress… I truly am glad it found a home and a doll who loves it!

  2. Good grief, Jeanne! Did I start all this? Unbelievable that you could accumulate so much stuff! Well, I know, we just kind of “accept” things we have and really don’t concentrate on them too much, because we are living in the present and it just all adds up. I’m glad that Rebecca is able to help you out, and you will have so much more room. I did a big purge about 7 or 8 years ago, and I am happy to say I don’t miss what I got rid of at all. The things I wasn’t ready to get rid of, I kept, but am now even getting rid of those things that I thought I needed, or just wasn’t ready to let go. It will be much easier to keep things organized now, for sure!

Loved to hear about your “naughty” lunch with your mom. You two are a fun bunch!

    1. Yes, Linda, I think you did start all this…. AND I’M SO GLAD YOU DID! It has forced me to make some tough decisions but I think good ones in the long run!
I still haven’t had the urge to get into those patterns or anything else for that matter that I’ve culled… It must not be missed too badly!

Lunch was fun! My mom really enjoyed it!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Know my problem now. I don’t have a dedicated room for my sewing/dolls/crafts. My sewing machine is in a corner of the family room and everything just kind of flows from there. My dolls are in the guest room, if you can call it that. I suppose if we moved out the bed in the guest room, I might be able to turn it into a sewing room/doll room. Oh, who needs guests. 🙂
I’m not much of a dessert fan, but I can never pass up chocolate mousse at Coppola’s Rustic. Must have a table on the terrace overlooking the vineyards too. Another visit should be arranged soon.
P.S. Can’t believe you passed on the antique store stuff.

    1. HI Joy,
Maybe you could give the sewing/doll room a try and see what happens… if it doesn’t, you could always move the bed back in there. It’s really nice when you can have your OWN space to do with however you like! I’ll be waiting to see if you give it a try…

Yummy… chocolate mousse sound delicious! I’ll have some….

I did pass on everything… except for the yogurt and toppings! I was REALLY good!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Hi Jeanne,
Sorry, I can’t give you any advice about online stores. I looked into adding a Paypal button to each page on my website when I have an outfit for sale, but I have to be ready to remove the Paypal button (no different from what I do now) when the item sells. You cannot specify that there is only one available and expect the button to disappear. Why don’t you try doing what I do? Accept buying requests through email or contact forms, then send your customer a Paypal invoice. Sorry, that’s all the advice I have right now about selling from my website; it pretty much works for me though.

I’ve got to take photos of more stuff to sell someday too.

Love those soft serve ice cream places, Dairy Queen vanilla cones and Oreo blizzards are my favorite treats though, they always win out. It sounds like you had a lovely day with your mom! Congrats on not buying anything other than ice cream.

    1. HI Cindy,
I haven’t decided yet on any kind of a store… so for now, I might just do it the way you do… How do you keep people from seeing your dress that you show on your blog, and then them emailing you and saying, OH… I have to have that! Do you just post it at 7:00 in the evening and have a rule that whoever has the earliest time right after 7:00 is the winner? I’d like to know more how you do that part…

We did have a lovely time shopping even though we didn’t buy anything except ice cream… but I’m not sorry we got it!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. What a fun time you had with your mom. Memories for both of you.

I know nothing about selling online..sorry.

Your sewing room is getting there. It’s really great that Rebecca is there to work with you through the process of purging, cleaning up. More memories…

    Take care.

    1. HI Becky,
We did have a fun time… and a fun lunch! :o)

I may just do my selling like Cindy Rice does her for now…

It is nice to have someone doing it along with me… I think that helps…
      Still more going on today…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. I just entered “idreamofjeannemarie” in the eBay search and it did not show anything for sale. Then I clicked on the doll on the right on your post and you have two auctions going on right now. They should show up. What’s going on with eBay and their new policies? Something is missing.

Thanks for the inspiration once again to clean out. Slowly, slowly.

    1. HI Susette,
If you entered “idreamofjeannemarie” in the Ebay search engine part… it won’t show up because I don’t use my name in my title… if you go to the Advanced link and type in “idreamofjeannemarie” in the “seller” search, I will show up…
You might try typing in just Trixie Tonner and there are so few you’ll see it…
It should take you to the listing if you click on the pictures… it works for me… hmmm…

I didn’t get much done today in my room… too many other things…George’s haircut, Kristoffer’s alterations, Braiding Rebecca’s hair, I had to run errands for George because he hurt his heel, supper, a blog post and now I’m done for the day… if I want to be…
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne
