I was hoping to have gotten more sewing time in today, but it didn’t happen. The sister set did get started though…so I thought I’d share with you how it’s coming along. I decided to use my new favorite embroidered cotton for the bodice and sleeves and added a sweetheart neckline to make it extra sweet!
The skirt fabric is just wrapped around my dolls bodies, but they will be gathered and a slip will be underneath. I hope you’re liking them so far…One dress has the sleeves sewn in but the other one only has the sleeves constructed. You’re going to have to use your imagination on how I’ll complete them… if you were making them, how would you finish the dresses?
My brother and his family came down this evening for the weekend, so I’m not sure what tomorrow holds for sewing… probably not much time, but I’ll find something to share with you on Sunday…
This is all I have for today… it was a pretty uneventful day, except for unpacking, grocery shopping, some momma time, dinner, and a bit of sewing…
I hope you have a wonderful Saturday!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
I can tell already that Lily is going to be a great model for you. Together they look like today’s girls.
I like the blouse material and the shape of the sleeves. I think you probably have already chosen some cute buttons and I’m really interested in what you’ll do with belts or sashes. Watching these outfits grow is going to add interest to my weekend.
I have some beautiful metal baskets that make arranging flowers easy. It’s supposed to rain today, so I’ll probably put the flowers out tomorrow. There is a big race this weekend — the Bolder Boulder — but fortunately it’s in another part of town. I wish everyone a happy and peaceful weekend.
Hi Marilyn,
Yes…Lily is a very pretty doll and I really should use her more often…
You are right…buttons are involved…but I’ll surprise you how I plan to use them.
I am at my mom’s visiting with family.
Thanks Marilyn,
Blessings, Jeanne
I think the skirt calls for some pleats and maybe one on the sleeves with a button or bow on the sleeve pleat. The pleats on the skirt would be a pain, but could “hide” the white and give the skirt a more solid look with a surprise for the sisters when they twirl!
Hi Donna,
The idea of pleating the fabric for a special “surprise” look sounds cute but would probably take too much time for just modern girl dresses. It sounds sweet though..
Thanks Donna,
Blessings, Jeanne
Another thought, maybe you could make a pom pom out of the sparkly tulle and gle to a dowel and make sparklers
Hi again Donna,
Sparklers sound really fun!!!
Thanks for the thought…
Blessings, Jeanne
Wow, so many suggestions for the dresses. Great ideas. Can’t wait to see what you actually do. Sounds like a fun weekend for you. Enjoy family and have fun.
Hi Joy,
Yes…lots of ideas for me!
I am enjoying visiting with family!!!
Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
Every time I look at the skirt fabric, Imget another idea. Sorry for being a pest. Anyway the placement of the stars might be perfect for doing some American Smocking.
Hi again Donna,
I actually did think about doing some counterchange smocking…so I guess we were thinking alike…
Blessings, Jeanne
Happy Memorial Day weekend, Jeanne!
Thank you for sharing your delightful trip to Missouri with all of us! What peaceful and picturesque property your in-laws own, and how blessed you all are to commune with God’s handiwork in such an idyllic location! The photos remind me of the timeless truths in one of my favorite hymns, “All Things Bright and Beautiful.”
The open necklines on the sister dresses would definitely allow for some pretty necklaces. Maybe Rebecca could make some festive ones with star beads that would be very patriotic? The embroidered floral bodice fabric speaks so beautifully all on its own, so I’m thinking that you might add any embellishments at the waist? Donna’s ideas for “peek-a-boo” pleats and sparklers are good ones, but perhaps you might do the unexpected and put the “sparklers” in their hair ornaments? It’s fun to guess what you will do, but we can be sure that Eden and Lily will have charming, OOAK, Jeanne Marie originals that will delight us all!
I love your posts that offer a glimpse of the past, and I always enjoy when you share pictures of you and your siblings as children (perhaps because it reminds me of my own childhood). I was wondering if you and your sisters ever had “Sweet Sisters” dresses for Independence Day? What an enchanting post those pictures would make along with Eden’s and Lily’s final reveal!
How blessed you are to gather so frequently with family! Enjoy your brother’s visit, as your sewing will always wait for you. Have a fun holiday weekend!
Peace and blessings,
Anne
Hi Anne,
Wow…more ideas…I hope I get the dresses just right after all the suggestions I’ve been given.
I don’t think Cindy and I ever had matching patriotic dresses but we had plenty of other matching dresses.
We are having a good time visiting…and think we’re going to go to Cool Spoons!!! YAY!!!
Thanks Anne,
Blessings, Jeanne
Jeanne, I am trying to get this comment written, but I am so very tired from washing, and working in the yard, since we came back from Branson yesterday. Those outfits will look really cute with whatever you decide to do. Do you have star shaped red and blue buttons? One on each sleeve would be cute, and maybe down the front. Or maybe like Anne says, have Rebecca make some cute red, white and blue necklaces. Maybe some cute headbands for their hair with stars for the Fourth of July holiday. Molly has a cute one with her tap costume, that could be paired up with a sparkler that you could make. I’m actually too tired to think anymore!
I’m wondering if you were in or close to Salem, MO. I know where that is, and know it is a beautiful area. So glad you had a good time there! Branson was fun!
Hi Linda…
Yes, we were in Salem, MO…its a very nice little town.
Its okay that you couldn’t think of much else to add for dress suggestions. I think I have enough to think about!
Get to bed early and maybe tomorrow you’ll be all rested up…
Blessings, Jeanne
There’s supposed to be a huge Florida to Texas storm including Missouri. You are far enough north to miss it? I hope your brother-in-law’s property is also out of the path of anything but a nice rain.
