A few days ago I mentioned we could have another “Show and Tell” of your dolls dressed up in their Easter dresses. I know several of you told me you had worked for days getting your dolls all dressed up for Easter and it seemed like a shame to me not to let everyone see all the work you put into making them look beautiful. I did show Linda’s dolls in their sweet vignettes and will show them again, but here are a few more from a few ladies…
(Well, actually not very many ladies emailed me their doll pictures, so I just decided to add the most recent pictures I was sent…) I hope you enjoy them. If anyone sends me pictures right away, I’ll do my best to add them to this post, so you might want to check back in the evening to see if anything new has been added.
This was actually a St. Patrick’s dress that Susette made for her granddaughter Riya. She worked long and hard on it, getting things to turn out like she wanted.
Here is a closeup picture of her ties that she laced through eyelets… nice job Susette. I hope it’s right side up…it wanted to go sideways on me.
Her granddaughter, Riya, thinks that grandma is the bomb now and she’s been drawing her pictures of what she wants made next. This was something she wanted for her doll for Easter. Her drawing first…
…and how Susette brought it to life. Pretty neat huh?
Joy sent me an Easter morning picture of herself back in 1957, when she was 8. Her mom made the white coat, and she said she had a purse, a hat and “black” shoes, and couldn’t ever remember having “white” shoes. Oh Joy…that hat looks familiar to me…
I made many an Easter dress with a matching coat just like hers!
Sherry sent me a picture of Matilda Marchmont, a doll by A Girl for All Times… ( I hope her picture isn’t sideways either…)
Sherry also sent me some pictures of the silk panties she was working on for the Girls for All Times. I think they are quite cute, don’t you?
Here are Linda’s pictures again, in case you missed them a few days ago…
Kathie sent me some Easter pictures of her Little Darlings and her 7″ Dionne Babies… aren’t they sweet loving on all those bunnies?
I was helping Rebecca with a school project today so there wasn’t much time for sewing. Sorry, nothing new to show on Eden’s dress… but I do think I have Friday all to myself, so who knows what I might get accomplished… :o)
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
That was fun. Thank you for letting us see what you make Susette, Sherry, and Linda! And, Joy, you looked adorable in your Easter finery. That hat IS cute, it’s so grown up. When I was 8 I had what looked like a lace doily on my head. Those were the days (in the 60s) when women could not go to mass (in the Catholic church) without something on their heads, so being the non hat lover that I was, I had a floppy lace thing.
Thank you for posting these photos, Jeanne. Hope you get lots of sewing done today.
No lace thingys here, but I remember some of my friends wore those. If you look closely, I’m wearing my Cinderella watch on my left wrist. Gave it away to my cousin some years later. Darn.
HI Joy,
Oh too bad about your Cinderella watch. I bet you wish you still had it! :o(
Your hat is very pretty… what color was your dress underneath if your coat was white?
Blessings, Jeanne
HI Cindy,
I’m very late to the party tonight… too busy of a day, but I did get lots accomplished…
I’m so glad as many shared as did…it’s fun to see what everyone else is doing!
You should have shown some of yours… cause I know you surely got the prize for having the most Easter dresses made. How many Fourth of July dresses do you already have done? 15?
Thanks Cindy,
Blessings, Jeanne
The photos are lovely, ladies. Thanks for sharing them with us via Jeanne.
Here in the rural Midwest, we were also wearing Easter hats, gloves and dresses in the ’50’s and early ’60s. Although my hats didn’t look like Joy’s, there were similarities. I suppose the hippie movement curtailed the clothing finery that some of us were a part of? It surely seems like clothing has gotten a lot more relaxed since then.
Hope you’ll have a nice time sewing today, Jeanne. It looks to be cloudy and colder here with more precipitation so it’s such a day for us.
Take care.
HI Becky,
I’ll have to get some pictures from over at my mom’s house… our hats resembled “cakes” for a few of the Easter’s I remember. You are so right about the clothing being more relaxed now. What a difference. It seems like anyone who tries to keep the “old” traditions alive, is viewed as backwards or needs the fashion police called in… that’s too bad…
I did have a nice time sewing and crafting and moving chicks and unloading a truck at the Food Pantry… of course my hubby had to cook his own dinner because I was scrambling to get Eden’s dress listed on Ebay this evening… bad wife… bad wife…
Thanks Becky,
Blessings, Jeanne
I’m not sure how to send you pictures of things I make…. Happy April, everyone! we are one more day closer to spring! I’m really, really, looking forward to some ‘outside’ activities soon! Might ‘cut into’ my fabric play – but… I need fresh air! 🙂 the sun is valiantly trying to peek through clouds here in Michigan.
HI Mary,
Maybe someone can show you how to send your pictures to me. My email address is jeannewiedlocher@gmail.com
My hubby had to mow our grass on Tuesday… the yard looks so pretty today. I hope you get some “outside” time soon.
Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
Wonderful photos from everyone. Thanks for sharing, Jeanne. Susette’s eyelets are beautiful and I love the perfectly sized shamrock charms. The skirt flares so that she looks like she’s dancing.
There’s an art to interpreting a drawing and seeing what is meant, and Susette has it. Riya is a lucky girl — I can hardly wait for her prom dress design. Encouraging this sort of creativity is such a good thing to do.
Matilda is the Land Girl, isn’t she? I think her dress suits her perfectly, and the panties are super — they fit, which is not as common as it should be. I suppose her mother found an old silk dress from between the wars and made underwear for her girls, which they would have loved having under their practical work clothes.
I never had a spring coat like Joy’s, but other than that, she looks more like my sister than any of my sisters do. That was a nice surprise for me.
Jeanne, I haven’t asked about your foot recently. How is it? I’m discovering that a lot of things take longer than we hope for recovery.
Howdy sister! I don’t have any sisters but would love to have one. 🙂
HI Marilyn,
I’m a bit late getting here tonight, but I’m here now. Susette’s Irish dress does look like her doll is dancing… I think it’s sweet.
Yes, Riya has her work cut out for her grandma, doesn’t she? You’re right.. a Prom dress will eventually be in the mix.
I don’t know very much about the Girls for All Times.. I guess I need to read up on them. Sherry made me 2 pairs of silk panties for my American Girl dolls and they fit like a glove. So sweetly made too.
I like the comment from Joy where she called you her sister… how sweet!
Actually my foot is better… it seems like in the last 2 weeks it’s just gotten stronger and I don’t notice it hurting very much at all. Maybe it did just take that long to heal from the inside. I’m still very careful when I walk outside to avoid holes in the yard, or loose gravel, but I think it’s going to be okay…
Blessings, Jeanne
Susette, your granddaughter must get so excited awaiting a new outfit. Love the bunny outfit and your scene setting.
Sherry’s Matilda is a cute one. I love those dolls.
Linda’s vignettes are amazing.
Hope there’s time today to work on that sweet little dress.
HI Joy,
It was fun for me to share everyone else’s sewing today.. and yes, I did manage to get that 50’s dress finished… it’s on Ebay tonight…
Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
It was fun to see the other dolls! Susette did a wonderful job with that St. Patrick’s Day dress, everything was done to perfection, and the Easter dress is adorable too! You have a lucky granddaughter, Susette!
Joy looked so cute in her Easter outfit! I do remember little girls wearing outfits like that, although by 1957 I was already a sophisticated high school girl! Ha! And Cindy, yes, I remember wearing those little lace circles on my head during mass too back then!
Did Sherry make that dress too for her doll? So cute! Those underpants are really too pretty to be under the outfits! They look so comfy too!
I certainly hope you get to do what you like to do best today, Jeanne! Can’t believe another week almost over with!
HI Linda,
I’m glad you enjoyed seeing everyone’s dresses today. There are lots of creative people out there, aren’t there….and even Riya, drawing what she wants for her grandma to make next… That’ll keep Susette busy for years to come. :o)
I’m not sure if Sherry made her doll dress or not… maybe she’ll see this and answer. I have 2 pairs of her silk panties for my American Girl dolls and they are perfection!
I did get to do what I like to do best…sew… I got Eden’s dress finished and listed on Ebay.
Hallelujah!
Blessings, Jeanne
I appreciate Jeanne Marie’s picture-taking skills with the dolls even more now. They are not easy to pose as the heads, arms and legs are not well articulated. The dress really does say “Easter” with iron-on sparkly letters, the devil’s own to get right. I had fun doing it. That is my shamrock which is at least ten years old next to Felicity. Riya loves designing dresses and drew this one in just a few minutes.
I enjoyed seeing all of the other dresses and displays. I remember being dressed like Joy, but I, too, was 16 by 1957. I have a hoya plant that forms great big balls of tiny pink velvet flowers that are exactly like the ones that used to be on the little hats. Sherry’s doll is cute and Linda’s display is like a Christmas window except Easter. Thanks for all the lovely comments.
HI Susette,
Like I mentioned a few comments up… Riya is going to keep you very busy the next few years and then you’ll be doing “her” prom dress and then her wedding dress, which I’m sure she’ll design for you! :o) Happy sewing for the next 10 years with her!
Thanks so much Susette and it brings me much joy to know you are sewing because you found my blog interesting enough to start sewing again…
Blessings, Jeanne
I’ve heard of Dionne dolls but never seen any. What a wonderful thing to see, let alone own. Kathie’s dolls look so happy — she deserves them.
HI Marilyn,
I know… aren’t those little babies just the absolute sweetest things ever?
~ Jeanne
I just had to pop in to say how much I loved Kathie’s display of Little Darlings, Dionne Quints, and bunnies! Such a darling display, and almost lifelike! Were the Dionne babies yours when small? Just adorable, and your Little Darlings are so cute too! I really do want to get one—–when I win the lottery!
HI Linda,
I’m not sure if Kathie had those when she was little or if she acquired them when she was older, but aren’t they just the most adorable things you’ve ever seen. I love how she displayed them too…
