When I got up this morning my hubby said, in a vocal tone that I’ve learned to recognize, “I have a present for you…” I know what that means (usually)…something that requires my attention… and I was right. Then he said, “I’m sure you need to go to Joann’s today don’t you?”
One of our Pastors had a vest that was missing 3 out of 4 buttons and needed them sewn on…and they needed it Sunday. I searched my entire button stash and couldn’t believe I didn’t have 4 black buttons the right size… of course they couldn’t have cutsie little flowers on them either… so I put together a little sewing kit… a needle, some black thread, a pair of little snippers, and my reading glasses. I told my hubby I could get the buttons and sit in the car and fix it and then drop it off at the church. I did… and that was one mission accomplished!
While I was in Joann Fabrics I decided I might as well look around… you would too, wouldn’t you? Have you seen the aisle of the new Offray line of ribbons? It was quite impressive…and I snapped a few pictures with my phone. I resisted, though and didn’t buy a single spool of it…
Look at this Minnie Mouse ribbon…wouldn’t this make a fun project even “funner?”
I love this big pink roses wired ribbon…
I just love how all the colors look when you look down the row…
I had too many interruptions again today and hope to get the comments answered after I get this blog post written. I’m sure most of you are all in bed by now… I should be too… but our son came over late and put new guitar strings on my guitar, told us about winning a dart contest and sang a few songs for us. I thought it might be rude to say, “Sorry, son, I need to go answer some comments from my readers” so that’s why they didn’t get answered. If you want to see the answered comments, you can click HERE and go straight to yesterdays post…
Okay, now on to Molly’s dress. Before I forget… I’ve changed my mind about what color the background on this dress is… Linda questioned if it was really off white… I must have been having a “senior moment” because it’s NOT off white! I asked Rebecca to help me figure out what color I should call it and she looked at it and in 2 seconds said, “Khaki, mom… a light khaki!” Duh… why couldn’t I think of that? So Linda,
it’s now Khaki!
I got the dress completely finished and decided she’s going to go to a Memorial Day parade so she needs a flag. Joy suggested that in her comments a few days ago and I liked that idea. I was positive I had some small doll size flags in my stash somewhere but I searched and can’t find them so I’ll have to go to town tomorrow and see if I can find one just her size. Here’s a look at the overall appearance of the dress…
I added two little bows to the front bodice… and gathered up the neck ruffle and used a narrow bias edging to finish off the neck.
Her sleeves have tucks in them and I stitched a red button on each one.
The back of her dress closes with snaps hidden by pretty little blue buttons and a tie belt cinches up her waist very nicely.
Molly likes her dress very much and can’t wait to see the flag I told her I’d bring home for her.
We decided braids with pretty red satin ribbons were in order for the parade…
Here’s one last look… and I hope to get this listed this evening on eBay…
When you see the picture at the right side bar change to Molly’s dress, you’ll know it’s listed. You can click on the picture and it will take you directly to the listing…
Now I better get those comments answered…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
I can’t believe how absolutely cute this dress turned out, Jeanne! Love, love, love it! Yes, now that you mention it, the background does look khaki, not white. Yesterday’s post showed it absolutely white, and it looked like a different piece of material altogether! I love the little buttons on the sleeves! The bows are the perfect touch in the front! I can imagine myself wearing this years ago too! I guess it’s not yet listed, since I don’t see it on the right side of the border yet.
HI Linda,
Yes, it’s definitely khaki… a color I should have known…
I just got it scheduled to go on tonight… and I’m like you, I think I would have worn this one too! I found Molly a flag and something else… it’s not included but it’s pretty cute in the pictures…
Thanks Linda,
I hope you’re having the same pretty weather we are…
Blessings, Jeanne
Jeanne, you just keep creating such charming outfits for your dolls…others’ dolls in the end. I really like how you’ve used the swirly part of the print as a highlight on her bodice…and…love those red buttons!
Take care.
Thank you Becky,
I’m glad you like Molly’s dress. I do too.. and it’s prettier in person than it is in my pictures… It’s just a bit on the dull side I think in my pictures, but in person, you see the 3-D bows on the front and the color just seems a bit more vibrant!
Thanks so much for your nice compliments…
Blessings, Jeanne
Sweet! Can’t you just see her pulling a little wagon of dollies or pushing a little carriage? If you can’t find a flag, plan B. We have beautiful sunshine here today and a breeze. Really kicking up allergies. Must pull weeds, must pull weeds.
HI Joy,
You’ll be surprise when you see the listing… you gave me another hint about something that would be cute with her dress. It’s not included but just used as a prop…
We have had a very pretty day here too… ugh!… those weeds…
Thanks so much Joy,
Blessings, Jeanne
The rain keeps melting the snow so I don’t have to shovel. Lovely. It’s green and wet here at the moment. That’s not stopping the allergies for a single second. I’ve heard that we’ve had 6″ of moisture, and I can tell that the weeds are vastly encouraged, while the garden shop is cold, damp, and pretty empty.
The dress is perfectly charming. I agree with Becky about your use of the blue part of the fabric for the bodice decoration. Linda may have given you a name for this one: Buttons and Bows.
HI Marilyn,
It sounds like you have had your fill of rainy weather… I guess so!
Thanks for your kind comments about Molly’s dress… actually I named it “I Love a Parade” and you’ll see why when you see the listing…
Thanks Marilyn,
blessings, Jeanne
Oh, just saw the posting of the outfit. Love the little wagon prop. So cute.
Hi Joy,
Thanks so much for the idea… I love it too! I will keep my eyes open for one just slightly larger for the AG girls, but I think it’s pretty cute even the way it is…
blessings, Jeanne
Jeanne, I think you beautifully translated that 1946 dress for Molly! I am particularly fond of the pleats in the sleeves, and am going to try to remember that for a dolly dress in the future.
Yes, that array of ribbons does look beautiful like that. It seems they have to put pictures of the ribbon in front of each slot–maybe people can’t read stock numbers any more for putting things away?! LOL I haven’t been in JoAnn’s for quite some time; might be time to go back in and look around (yeah, I really Need more fabric! LOL).
Hope your auction goes well!
