I had to do some Trim work today…

I couldn’t stand it another day! I don’t like it when my sewing room gets in disarray… it actually drives me crazy! But, I’ve been too busy lately to put things away properly and today I reached my tipping point. I spent almost the whole afternoon and evening straightening up my messy ribbons and trims area. This first picture is exactly what it looked like. I didn’t set this up… to look this messy…it was like this all by itself!

If you click on any picture, it will enlarge.

Here’s a close up if you REALLY wanted to scrutinize my mess…

I think you may remember a post where I started doing it, (HERE) but I ran out of cards to wrap my trims on so I ordered more. I got the trims looking pretty good then, but it seems to get messed up fairly quickly. I had ordered more chipboard cards, and here you see them…still where they were when I opened them.

It was past time to get this job done. I had used tiny rubber bands to hold the trims on the cards, but they were cheap thin rubber bands and many of them had broken, so I bought some new clear bands that seem to be stronger. I hope they’ll last longer. I had a mess of ribbons and some were just scraps. I gathered up all the pieces that were too short to wrap around the cards and put them in a baggie. I’ll use them for tiny projects.

It was a pretty mindless job…just stand and wrap and wrap and wrap. I tried to put like trims together… satins, sheers, cotton, embroidered, checked, grosgrain, etc.

…getting there…

Wow…what a difference! I like it!

Now to move to the next shelf up above the trims… it needs some help next!

Well, that’s it from me today… I spent all morning cleaning in my kitchen…washing cake pans and bowls with hardened frosting in them… UGH!

See you tomorrow,

  1. What an improvement, Jeanne! Wow, it looks like a store now that things are straightened up! I don’t have nearly, or anywhere that much in the way of sewing supplies, but I do have a lot of doll clothes and accessories, and heaven only knows how they get as messed up as they do! You just have to stop everything and fix it, and it takes awhile, I know!

Do you have yellow pollen floating around in the air from the oak trees too? and those pesky helicopters flying around the maples? Well, that’s what I’ve been cleaning up outside and now the yellow stuff is INSIDE too! Not fun! To add to that, I am now wearing a boot, since I have somehow torn a tendon. Have to get an MRI now and see how bad. You and me—–foot problems!

    1. Hi Linda,
YES… what a HUGE improvement… it was LONG overdue! It does look like a store I think… Welcome to “Jeanne Marie’s Emporium!” ( I looked up emporium and it said, a store carrying many different kinds of merchandise… Yep.. that would be me!)

We do have those little “helicopters” dropping like flies but I haven’t noticed the pollen in the air. We don’t have allergies so it might be out there and we haven’t noticed…

Oh dear.. is it the same foot and tendon you hurt before? I hope it’s a quick mend for you! This will put a damper on your yard work… :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Yes, Jeanne, same foot, but other side, by the arch. Tomorrow and MRI, since the x-rays didn’t show any broken bones. And yes, the yard work has to be somewhat put off, but storms are coming.

The pollen I am speaking of drops off the oak trees, and we have a lot of oak trees around here. It is fluffy yellow flowery stuff that catches all over everything, your hair clothes the ground in the gutters, and yellow dust on everything inside if the windows are left open. We have the air conditioner on today for sure! And no, we are not allergic to it, but it’s no fun!

Thanks to everyone’s kind words about my foot!

  2. Nice clean up job, Jeanne. Glad you reminded me/us about dishes that need to be washed………On to the job!

    Take care.

    1. HI Becky,
Wouldn’t it be fun if we could just PLAY all the time and not have to do those pesky dishes each day? :o)
      Thanks so much,
      blessings, Jeanne

  3. Jeanne, I know what you’re feeling and happy for you that you got to organize all the trim. I should have taken a picture of my card table the other day. It had such an assortment of things sitting on it, I didn’t know where to start. Like you, I have since taken care of that mess and am ready to move on to the next chore which I won’t get to till tomorrow.
I agree with Linda, your trim looks like trim in a store. Now you can just pick what you want on your next project.
    * Ow Linda…hope your torn tendon gets better. How unfortunate.
    Blessings

    1. HI Paula,
I do like to take before and after pictures because it lets me see how much I really accomplished… It sounds like you are making lots of headway too… we’re two busy little bees!
It is nice to be able to “see” everything at a glance…
      Hope your day is productive!

  4. P.S. I have a pretty 19″ Scarlett doll. My sister made her several dresses years ago. I had her dressed in a beautiful green evening gown and decided to change her outfit. To my dismay, there are green marks on her upper arms from the material of this dress. I’ve tried several products on those marks, but so far no luck in removing the green. I have a feeling, the type of plastic/rubber she’s made out of, the stains won’t come out.

    1. HI Paula,
You might want to try a product, if you haven’t already… it’s called Remove-zit from Twin Pines of Maine. I can’t seem to get a link added here. I had a customer buy a dress from me and the black thread stained her doll. I sent her the Remove-Zit and the 911 cleaner that gets the Remove-zit off…(it sort of hardens like glue and has to be removed with the 911 stuff.) The lady said it took a few times but all the stains came off of her dolls body. You might check them out… I think it might work for you…

  5. My sewing room looks similar! I also have a stack of fabric on top of my embroidery machine which sits next to my cutting table that I keep piling higher with the leftover fabric after I cut out a pattern.

Please tell me where you got the little cardboards for wrapping laces trims!! Mine are all in 4 x 6 little zip top bags in several of those plastic shoe boxes. I love your little graduated shelves so much better!! I’ll get to clean up my space eventually!

    1. HI Karen,
I guess us “creative” people just accumulate stuff and make messes more than other people

The chipboard cards I use come from an eBay seller named thunderbolt-paper. The little cards I use were 2 1/2″ x 3″ but I didn’t see any in that size when I just checked. You can get all different sizes from them. I would recommend the .046 Thick chipboard (46 point) which equals 11.5 sheets of paper. It’s a bit heavier but it doesn’t bend and it stays nice and straight… Hope this helps…
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Thanks for the info on the chipboard, Jeanne! I did see some 2.5 X 3, but I may consider the 4 X 6 size too. Love that the seller offers free shipping!

  6. I do like those trims so neatly wrapped on their cards. Could the clear bands be made of vinyl vs the rubber bands? I’ve found old pins holding some things together that have rusted leaving marks so the bands seem a great idea. I can only wish my mess was as nice as yours. Mine is much worse 🙁

    1. HI Joy,
The clear bands I’ve used are actually called Polybands on the package. I think they are like the bands used on braces… not positive though. I found them at Walmart, by Expressions…
I have had the same thing happen with rusty pins leaving marks on things too… :o(

Maybe you’ll feel inspired to get your stuff organized now… I’m not stopping with just the trims… it’s time to have a whole room makeover…
      Thanks Joy,

  7. Hi Jeanne,
I’ve been busy with spring cleaning. The yard is a MESS from the winter. Saturday and yesterday were spent cutting down our cherry tree the got something called black knot so now it’s ruined. It yielded good fruit so it’s sad to have it go. The pussy willow needed to be trimmed. last night we had a huge storm, so now there’s more debris on the ground. I’m anxious to get the garden planted.
Your trims look so nice and now you can easily find whatever you want. Those graduated shelves are ideal.
~ Linda, I’m so sorry to hear about your foot. Hope that it gets better very soon. How unfortunate for that to happen right as the weather becomes nice.
~ Paula, have you tried the OXY cream treatment? I’ve never had occasion to, but many people promise that it works with time, sun, and patience. I don’t know if you are on AGPT as well, but the Nurse’s Office is full of different member’s advice.

    1. HI Laura,
We had tree limbs down too and lots of little sticks around in the yard from all the wind we got. It’s too bad about your cherry tree. We used to have one of those in the yard where I grew up… it was fun to eat the cherries…

I told Paula about some stain remover called Remove-Zit from Twin Pines of Maine and now she’ll have to figure out what she wants to use… It’s always helpful to hear how others have been successful at removing stains…
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Jeanne, so good to know that your studio gets messy like mine! The trims look so nice all neatly lined up. I must have missed an earlier post… Where do you get your chip boards?

    Blessings, Beth

    1. Hi Beth,
Yes, us “creative” people have to stick together… messy rooms and all I suppose.

      1. Jeanne, thanks for the info on the clipboards. The new dress looks like it will be adorable. Are you going to fussy cut the decorative bands?

  9. Good job on tidying up the trims. It’s a never ending job, isn’t it? Every time I start a sewing project, it seems like I have to pull out bunches of stuff to find what I need. One way to look at it is the only way it would all stay neat is if you weren’t making anything. I think it’s just the price you have to pay for creativity!

    1. HI Carolyn,
It IS a never ending job when you are crafty… you get one area cleaned up and then another area goes haywire…
I’m trying to find a good cabinet/chest/dresser so I can arrange my things in it and not have to dig through Rubbermaid tubs anymore. I want to be able to open up a drawer and see what it is I’m looking for…no more searching…
      Thanks Carolyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne
