Calling all Caroline dolls… I have a new purple Regency dress…

I am so sorry that I didn’t get your comments answered yesterday. I was able to get on my website early yesterday morning but I went to spend some time with my mom and when I got home I couldn’t connect to the server for my website. I was completely shut out and couldn’t see anything on my site all day long. I thought it was just a maintenance thing and was only a matter of time before I could get on. Well, hours turned into more hours and finally I called Tech Support right before 9:00 last night and they said I was missing a plugin on my site. It wasn’t anything I could have fixed and was just a matter of me calling in so they could fix it.

But because of all that, I was on the phone, making dinner, and trying to get the Regency dress finished, so the comments had to go by the wayside. I did read through them when my site came back on, but will go back today and see if I missed any questions you may have asked. I had hoped to get this dress listed on eBay but didn’t get everything done in it until almost 11:00 last night. By then it was too late to take pictures and get it listed. So… it will show up on eBay tonight …hopefully! I figured you’d rather me sew and try to get it finished than answer comments…

Anyway… computer talk aside… I am very pleased at how Elizabeth looks in her new purple gown. I redid her hair and made the braids up higher so you see them from the front when you look into her eyes. I think it looks much better.

The head piece was fun to make and I just started stitching things on and adding beads and flowers and “out popped this!” It closes in the back with a piece of velcro.

I added a tiny bit of green silk ribbon to the beading on the bodice and added one green bead in the centers of the purple beaded outline I had already done.

The lace that went down the front was loose on the outside edge and sometimes it sort of looked like flaps so I hand stitched it down…much better!

I wanted to make a little something for Elizabeth to carry and used a vintage hankie to create this drawstring reticule.

I will do my very best to get this listed tonight on eBay!

See you tomorrow,

    1. Thank you Christine,
I think Elizabeth looks so pretty in this purple color… I appreciate you taking time to tell me you like it!

  1. Wow! This is a perfect combination of color, trim, necklace, dress style, etc.. And I especially love the way the headpiece turned out.

    1. Thanks so much “Mo”
I am thrilled that you like all the elements of the dress… that means I must have gotten in right… Thanks a lot!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. It truly is beautiful. It’s stunning on Elizabeth. The bead work is lovely and I love her reticule. (I didn’t know that’s what her handbag is called.) Her head piece is so pretty on her too and I like how you did her hair.
I’m always reluctant to do much with my dolls’ hair- my Civil War girls should have their hair up or in curls but I don’t want to put pins in their hair or make waves in the ones with the long straighter hair. Still, I wish I could do what you do to some of the girls hair styles.

    1. Hi Paula,
Thanks so much for your comments on Elizabeth’s new dress. I actually made a new reticule and you’ll see it tomorrow… I have this thing with asymmetrical things so I had to make it the same on both sides… you’ll see…
I play with my dolls hair a lot, but I’m pretty careful with it even when I do fuss with it. My Elizabeth has incredible hair, think, shiny and very pretty… the only thing is her tendrils are sort of frizzy. I’d like to pour boiling water over them and then re curl them. Maybe I will someday…
      Thanks Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Truly perfection! Elizabeth is such a beautiful model, but I can also imagine how lovely this would be on Caroline! She’s another one of my favorite dolls! I’m so glad you added some extra color on the bodice beading. It looks wonderful! Well done, Jeanne!!

    1. HI Karen,
I’m glad you like Elizabeth’s new Regency dress… I will look very pretty on Caroline too… I love mint green with lots of colors and it just went so well with this dress, I had to use a touch of it…
      Thank you Karen,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Your work is outstanding, Jeanne. From my viewpoint, the green silk ribbon just makes it perfection. That added color makes the ensemble a masterpiece. Well done.

    Take care.

    1. Hi Becky,
What nice things you’ve said about about my dress for Elizabeth. I really like the green touch too… I’m not sure it’s a masterpiece… but it’ll do!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Glad you’re back on.
Love the embroidery and bead detail. Agree not Hawaiian anymore.
Perfect little necklace too. Great job.

    1. HI Joy,
I guess Elizabeth doesn’t need a lei now, huh? I guess I changed it enough to make it not so Hawaiian for you… I’ll have to do a Hawaiian dress sometime just so you can get your fix…
      Thanks so much Joy…
and yes, I think things are finally back in order… although I spent a big part of today on the phone with tech support…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. OHHH! Elizabeth looks beautiful! She really shines in the purple. I love the headpiece and the reticule is just darling. i thought the other day a reticule would be cute, but decided to wait to see what you had in mind. All the little beaded details are perfect. The sweeping train is so elegant. Elizabeth looks ready to attend her first ball.
As you know MY Caroline is renamed and is Civil War, but I think I may have to make her a Regency dress to match her eyes. I love the Rency films Emma, Sense and Sensibility, and especially Pride and Prejudice ( the one with Greer Garson.

    1. Hi again, Jeanne,
Just saw Linda’s comment about not receiving the email. I alway read direct from your blog so I can see the comments others make. I went and checked my email and your post wasn’t there. I saw I had a Spam and when I checked it it was your email so I marked it not spam and sent it to my inbox. I wonder if something has gone haywire with your computer. 🙁

      1. Hi Laura,
Thank you so much for your sweet comments on Elizabeth’s dress. It was fun to see this one come to life. I love the color on her…once everyone picked her for the model…
I actually made a different reticule but I’ll include both of them… since some of my pictures had the first one in them…

I have spent the last 2 days trying to update my computer so it’s safer for my subscribers. It had to be offline yesterday while it was activated and today it was off line because one of the plugins was still not activated. I’ve gotten pretty friendly with the tech support guys at my website server… It was all messed up today and it didn’t even look like my website… the pictures were all on the left side, the writing was teeny tiny and my banner at the top was all jumbled up with words on top of each other. I think it’s all straightened out now… and it’s all safe and secure now…
        Thanks for your patience… but I think it’s okay…
        Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Jeanne, I don’t know what’s going on, but I have yet to receive your blog through my email. I had to open yesterday’s blog, then click onto “Blog” to get this. Wonder what happened. You might want to check to see that everyone is getting your blog today. Some things might have been changed or canceled.

Anyway, computer troubles aside, ooooh, that is just gorgeous! I love the detailing, the flowing train, the beautiful headpiece and sparkly necklace! The little drawstring purse is just adorable and goes very well with the whole ensemble! What fancy occasion would she be going to? I love purple beads with green you put onto the bodice, just stunning! Whoever wins this is in fro a treat!

    1. Hi Linda,
I think the mess up with my computer is all solved now. When it was off yesterday I thought it was just some kind of maintenance and then when I called Tech Support last night they said it was an issue with a plugin that I was missing on my website. I had them talk me though how to fix it. But then I wait over night for it to be activated… when I got up this morning it seemed okay but I was supposed to go in and activate the plugin. When I did there were 2 choices.. I didn’t know what to do, so I called Tech Support again and the guy gave me the wrong choice. It messed things up royally. The writing was really small and my pictures were all scrunched to the left side. The banner at the top had all th words overlaid on top of each other. It was awful looking. I had to wait again for 4 hours for it to get re-activated… then I called again and a guy helped me get it back the way it was before….finally. I think it’s all straightened out now…It’s a safer site and now my subscribers are very safe to be on here too. I want to open an online store sometime in the future and this way, it will be safe to buy things on here. It’s been a pain, but something that had to be done…of course with anything like that it’s costly… $225 smackeraroos!
Well, actually that included my website fee in there for the next year too though.

I’m not sure where Elizabeth is going but I think her mama better watch out if there are boys there!
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Every single person who has written above has got this exactly right. Once again, you have proven that the details make the difference. This is a truly beautiful and beautifully finished outfit. The headpiece worked out perfectly. It’s also nice that everything came together smoothly. I hope that the auction goes very well — this is a dress that deserves a very nice price. My favorites are the ones when you and George end up staring at the screen in disbelief.

    1. HI Marilyn,
Thank you so much for your very kind comments about this dress. I like the ones too where my hubby is standing over my shoulder and it gets to be 10 seconds out and he says, “it’s still a very good price, even if it doesn’t go any higher…” and then it doubles or something like that in the last 3 seconds or so! Those are fun!!!
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Beautiful dress and the headpiece is gorgeous. When I was a little girl even teenager I always wished our clothes looked like this. Oh well at least our dolls can be beautiful. Have a great day.

    1. Thank you Donna,
It is nice that we can live vicariously through our dolls, isn’t it? I used to want to live in the Civil War times, but the more I read about how they had to wear all those undergarments under their dresses.. no thank you…
      Thanks so much,
      blessings, Jeanne

  10. That’s very pretty! I really like the accessories too! I wasn’t able to read your blog yesterday. I didn’t get home from work until around 7pm, and by then you must have been having server problems, because I couldn’t get your blog to open. I’m glad to see you’re back!

    1. Hi Carolyn,
I was having server problems yesterday and even into this afternoon, but I think they are all straightened out now… I’ve been on the phone a lot today… talking with tech support…
Thanks so much for your very kind words about my Regency dress. It was a joy to put together… and I’m glad you like it…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. Hi Jeanne

I love the outfit it’s just lovely. You are a wiz at pulling a look together, not everyone has that talent. I didn’t comment on your trip to town with hubby but I love the trims you bought there isn’t anything around here where I can find such pretty trims. I agree with Joy the lady with the got fabric tee made me chuckle. I’m so glad you enjoyed your time in town.
    Have a great weekend
    Ingrid

    1. Thanks Ingrid,
I appreciate your sweet comments on my Regency dress and on the trims I bought. My hubby and I did have a wonderful, much needed day away and we had lots of fun.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend too…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  12. Elizabeth is beautiful and I second all of the compliments above. Every details adds so much to the whole effect. Love the little reticule and that it is made from part of a handkerchief. I made a pink dress and headpiece much like this for Marilyn when she gave me a doll from her collection. I think I have just enough fabric and trim left over to make one for Riya. I think I used some of Carpatina PAT-013 for the back and Simplicity 1486 for the front neckline. The necklace certainly adds the finishing touch. What a wonderful talent you have!

    1. Awwww Susette,
You are too kind with your compliments on my sewing. I just love to make pretty little doll clothes and I’m glad it shows! I actually made a new reticule so you’ll have to check it out too…
I love the necklace Rebecca made for this dress. It is a knock out… seriously!
Thanks Susette and have a great weekend…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  13. Every comment about the color the style, the accessories, the headpiece and her hair are right on. She’s a winner. Loved the way you redid her hair to show above her headpiece…stunning?
    Have a good weekend

    1. Thanks so much Kathie,
I like her hair braided up higher too… she’s a pretty doll, isn’t she? One of my best purchases ever… Thank you for your kind words,
      blessings, Jeanne

  14. Charlotte Trayer

I’m sorry about your computer problems, but glad things are fixed again!

The entire ensemble is lovely, and I particularly love that touch of green you added. It’s one of my favorite color combinations.

Now, didn’t I tell you that we blonds look great in purple?! 😉

    1. Thank you Charlotte,
You certainly are right about blondes looking good in purple!
Thank you for your kind comments!
      Blessings, Jeanne
