Sometimes you just can’t find time to sew
So the best thing to do is go with the flow
Movies, a lunch date, a trip to our Kohl’s
Lots of good talks about reaching our goals
“Sleepless in Seattle” made us smile and then get teary
“Emma” had great costumes and that made me cheery
“One Night with the King” had the most beautiful girl
But hungry for dinner? We gave Wendy’s chili a whirl!
There’s nothing quite like a visiting sister
I knew when I saw her how much I had missed her
It’s always so fun when she comes for awhile
I love her sweet voice and her heartwarming smile!
She’s leaving this morning, her visit is done
It’s back to Missouri and back to the fun
We’ve shed our few tears and I know she must go
I already miss her, but now I must sew!
I don’t like it when there isn’t a picture for me to share in my posts. But today you are in for a real treat. My sister’s hubby, Mike, made a decision that he was going to do a painting or a drawing each day this year, of something. He has been posting them on Instagram. So far he hasn’t missed a day… while Deb was here visiting, Mike drew these two pictures in chalk pastels… while I really like the potatoes, I LOVE the little girl’s portrait! Isn’t she sweet? Mike just made her up in his head… Enjoy and I’ll be back tomorrow to hopefully show you something else I’ve done on Rebecca’s dress…

Yes, Mike is very good! He’s an Art Professor at a college in Missouri and is so talented. All of the pictures in their house are done by him and it’s such a neat thing. I just love to look at the little girl one… Deb told me, “that one is mine!” Sometimes they get sold, but she wants that one… I would too.

Sometimes our sewing just has to take a back seat to other things in life – like me outside yesterday leaf blowing all my flower gardens. I can barely lift my arms today! 🙂

I know my sewing has to take a back seat sometimes… but I still feel like I have to apologize when I don’t have something “sew-y- sew-y” or dolly related… Guess I should relax and get over it.

Another rainy, dreary day here Jeanne! But I am so busy with changing up the spring decorations, and making a new Easter wreath for the front of the house, that it doesn’t bother me at all!
So now we know that with all your other talents, you are also a poet!! Really cute and informative too!
The chalk drawings are really good, I almost thought the potatoes were a photograph, and the little girl drawing is so touching! It looks like she is reading a very inspirational passage from whatever book she is holding.
Karen, I understand the leaf-blowing thing all too well! I spent most of last week doing the same thing, and although I do like the way the blowers get it done faster, they get to be quite heavy after awhile!

I need to get those ladybugs taken care of… somehow…and then clean my bathroom really well!
The more I look at the little girl drawing the more it grows on me. She looks very sweet doesn’t she. I think she looks like a little girl on the prairie and she’s sitting in front of a fire with the blaze of it reflected on her face.
You and Karen are miles ahead of me with your yard work… guess I’ll get to that later…

Mike’s artwork is beautiful. I so respect his talent.
I’ve always wanted to do water colors and paint a scene from our family girl’s tea parties but can’t get it right. I cherish a painting my mother did for me. It was of our old brick farm house in Wisconsin. It was a winter scene and in it, my brother and I were helping my dad haul our Christmas tree down the lane to our house. It was one of her first paintings and wasn’t perfect but she captured a wonderful memory and a special time.

The picture your mother painted sounds absolutely wonderful…full of memories and things in it to talk about. I love those kinds of pictures, and stories that go with them. Maybe if you just keep working on your painting you’ll get it close… that’s all that matters… close!

I’ve only received one answer about the hairspray wig problem. She suggested scrunching the curls to see if that would soften them. Perhaps you can try to gently comb one curl underneath and see how it goes. Another idea is to contact Tonner directly. Michelle there or someone else will answer your request very quickly. Just go to the Tonner site and find the how to contact form. Hope this helps.

I didn’t have much time to answer you the other day, but Tonner wigs are sometimes stiff and hard to manage. My Patsy wig was sort of like it had a hard gel on it and I just kept using my fingers to separate the hairs of the wig. It finally softened up. I bought the Patsy New Year’s doll and she had a long curly like auburn wig. It was so “hard-Like” it was almost impossible to do anything with. I knew of ladies who washed the wigs and they just became a frizz ball. I think that’s why the dolls are sometimes rewigged…it’s just easier to manage with a softer wig. I’ve thought about it for Patsy, but I think I have gotten most of the “crunchy” stuff out of it.

One more follow up. Recently someone purchased a new Patsy from Tonner that arrived with very stiff curls. She carefully rinsed the curls with slightly warm water. She was very surprised to see a ton of white goo come out. She did this very cautiously and let dry after. The curls did not come out and no frizz. Much softer now. I may try this myself. Good luck.

I did have fun with my mom and my sister too. Even though it was hospital time…we spent it well and when we got home we had “home”time… it was wonderful!
Yes, Mike is a pretty wonderful artist. He takes a group of students to Italy every other year for 3 weeks and they have a really nice time.

Both pictures are definitely worth sharing. It’s nice to get some good out of potatoes that have been around too long — this is the best use of them I’ve seen. What a good idea to try to stretch ability by practicing daily without fail. It’s just a different form of exercise.
I hope your sister isn’t going home to bad weather.

Deb was trying to beat the storms that were supposed to be coming and she just texted me that she made it home safe and sound. Yay!
She had never seen Sleepless in Seattle and she really enjoyed it… and we both cried at the “crying” parts… We screamed at Emma for being so mean and then was happy for her in the end. I enjoyed seeing the Regency dresses and it makes me want to do one next.
