HI everyone…
I hope you don’t mind another post without any sewing in it…*Party Planning is in High Gear at my house right now!* I am baking cookies today and may tackle a small wedding cake… (my hubby’s idea!) I got lots of things finished yesterday… my favor bags are all done, except for the cookies, all the candle wax that was in the votive holders that I used at my Christmas party has been removed and new candles have been added. I found the pretty pink paper plates for that “wedding cake” that we might be having, got the napkins…all this from my “party stash.” A store in town today GAVE me about 6 dozen roses and flowers that they were just going to throw away…I’m hoping I can make some small centerpieces with the ones that are still okay on Sunday. I found some decorations that I think I can use. I have my sheet printed out so everyone can guess the number of candies in the jar…Oh…that reminds me… We had a Guessing Game on here yesterday, didn’t we? Want to know “Who came the closest at guessing the candies in the jar, without going over?”
I realized after I did my post yesterday, that I have a few ladies who will be at the Sweetheart Banquet on Sunday night, so I can tell you the winner, but I will have to wait until Monday morning to tell you the exact amount or else these ladies will know the number of candies in the candy jar. I don’t want to exempt them from playing at my party, so I’ll just wait on telling you the number later. But, I can still tell you the winner… because they might be WAY off in their guessing… Becky guessed the closest without going over…

Now, onto to today’s post… brought to you today by my sister and little Hannah, whom you all met last year when I was making her dress for my nieces wedding out in Pennsylvania.
My sister, Cindy, sent me these pictures of a project she and Hannah just finished a few days ago… It was a frog lamp that my sister found at her rescue mission… She told me the lamp sort of looked like yellow plastic…but she was up for a little project.
[If you click on any picture, it will enlarge.]
She thought Luxe Grey would work nicely on it…so she let Hannah give it a coat…
…lookin’ good…
…a second coat…
…a little sheen with some wax…
The shade wasn’t in good shape, but that didn’t stop them…
Where shall we put this froggy lamp? Here?
How about in Hannah’s room beside her bed?
My sister told me Hannah found a beaded headpiece and draped it over the top, then said, “It looks absolutely beautiful!”
I agree…
I’ll see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
A small wedding cake. George has great ideas. And what would be more fun to decorate? Especially if you had lots of time. A friend asked me to decorate her wedding cake. Not having decorated a cake before, I said it was not her best idea. Finally I realized that she didn’t have anyone else, and another friend said I could frost the cake and do the edges and she’d do the frosting roses, all in a lovely creamy frosting lightly flavored with coffee — someone else’s recipe that worked beautifully — except for the roses. The rose-maker gave it a try, said it wouldn’t work, and walked off. I got a cup of tea and a paper and pencil and worked out a very simple design that I thought I could do with the half dozen decorating tips I had and went in and tried it out on the table. The table looked pretty good, so I tried it on the cake. Sometimes simple is good. It looked like an embossed card.
Maybe you and Cindy and Hannah could write a craft book that includes some (or all) adult and child projects. You have to admit that Hannah is a lovely, photogenic model, and that between you, you and Cindy must have at least a hundred projects to choose from. And you have Sara besides, as well as the nice story that comes with her.
Hi Marilyn,
The second layer of my cake is in the oven, so I’m going to try and sneak in a few comments…
I bet your cake was pretty…it sure sounds so… Sometimes the ideas we have…. :o)
Yep, I’ll write that craft book right after I write my doll book… :o) again…sometimes the ideas we have… :o)
When we all get together we are a huge conglomeration of ideas… you certainly have that right! It’s fun…
Blessings, Jeanne
I’m looking forward to pictures of your cake and your table settings. This is going to be pretty.
Thanks Marilyn,
I just finished it! Hallelujah!!!
Oh, what a beautiful, magical scene the lamp makes when lit up! it reminds me of the poem “The Owl and the Pussycat”, and the end where it says “And they danced by the light of the moon, the moon, they danced by the light of the moon”! Can’t get over how much creativity your family has, Jeanne! Hannah is a doll!
So a wedding cake, huh? Did you do your own? I think a tiered cake with some simple embellishments would do, you say you have all those fresh flowers, maybe you could use those instead of making icing roses. Anyway you do it, if you do it, will be wonderful!
Have fun at that party, and good luck with getting everything done!!
HI Linda,
I thought the lamp was adorable too… after Cindy got finished with helping Hannah with the lamp…she painted her TV cabinet… that girl is so creative…
No, the cake was the only thing I didn’t make in my wedding… I did the flowers, the boutineers, the decorating, the bridesmaid dresses, the ring bearers tux, the candlelighters dresses, the ring pillow, my veil, my dress, and probably something I’m forgetting…
I had to go to Wal Mart to get some actual cake pans as mine were too small for a tiered cake…it’s in the oven now, so we’ll see…
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
my niece would LOVE that lamp! she’s an ‘everything frog’ type person. LOL!! I haven’t decorated a cake in SO long. Kids are all ‘grown’ and g’kids have even stopped their ‘special requests’. Maybe I should make a cake just for ‘practice’!? we haven’t had a cake in a while. 🙂 I finished up my quilting project yesterday – so, am focusing on ‘doll play’ today. Bleuette Easter dress for swapping is in order today…
Hi Mary,
I think that lamp is so cute… and would be a fun piece just to have sitting around…
My cake is in the oven… so we’ll see how I do… it’s been a while since I baked a cake too…
How fun to have some dolly playing time today… Enjoy them… and then go bake a cake!
Blessings, Jeanne
What fun you must have in your household…you’re all so creative.
Loved seeing the frog lamp and how it’s turned out…charming.
Wow, closest guess for candies….that’s quite something.
Have fun at your party Sunday. It’s been great to read of all the preparations. I’ll bet everyone who goes will have a marvelous time.
Take care.
Congratulations on winning the candy jar Becky. I will get your prize out on Monday… sorry for the delay…
My younger sister is coming in this evening…I’m not sure how I’m going to fit visiting with her in, but I’m going to try…
We always do have a fun time… this time I think it will be especially romantic… :o)
Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
I love the frog lamp, reminds me of the Hilda Boswell poetry and storybooks I have from childhood. The pictures are magical with animals wearing clothing. I love the Brambly Hedge series that my daughter likes as well. I made themed birthday cakes each year according to the current interest and did quite a few animal ones.
How nice you received some roses to use, and free also.
Have fun at the party. It’s great you know some people on here in real life
HI Laura,
Yes, that froggy lamp is certainly a little piece of magic to me… I bet Hannah has fun with it in her room…
I can’t say I’m a fancy kind of cake person, but I do try hard, so we’ll see how I do on this one… I just don’t want it to look homemade and crooked… (isn’t that what icing is for?) :o)
I hope my flowers stay nice for 2 more days…I’m babying them…
Thanks Laura,
Blessings, Jeanne
Thanks for the kind comments on my African dress project. The frog lamp is so creative with the removal of the shade a perfect touch. What a darling little girl! Artistic talent certainly runs in the family.
Thank you Susette,
I think everyone enjoyed seeing your outfit to Thulie. I was happy to share it…
Maybe it’s not artistic talent…maybe it’s craziness… who knows…
Thanks anyway,
Blessings, Jeanne
Hannah’s addition of the beaded headpiece “makes” the lamp. Two frogs dancing in the rain! Beautiful.
Congrats to Becky as the lucky guess winner!
If you make the cake, hope you can snap a photo.
HI Joy,
I hadn’t thought of the beads as rain, but after you said that I looked back at the lamp and it’s a perfect description… Maybe Hannah saw that through her eyes… Thanks…
I’ve been taking pictures along the way today, so we’ll see how the end pics turn out… I hope good! :o)
Blessings, Jeanne
Like the poem too. Curious minds want to know who the wedding cake is for?
Anniversary ?
HI Jan,
The wedding cake is for the Married Couples Sweetheart Banquet that I’m hosting for the married couples at my church. We weren’t able to schedule a Valentine’s party like we always have so we pushed it back a week and it’s this Sunday night. My hubby wanted me to make a small simple wedding cake… I told him that was good, because that was the only kind I thought I could make… We’ll see if I can even do that!
The party is at a restaurant here in town, but I’m transporting the cake there… that’s scary…
Thanks Jan,
Blessings, Jeanne
Your sister has an eye for interesting pieces and Hannah has the same genes…she thought of putting that beading as a lampshade?? Wouldn’t have thought of that in a million years!
Good luck getting everything ready..
Rose hints…cut a new cut in the stem. Cut with a very sharp cutter so it doesn’t squeeze the stem as you are cutting it…put the stems in very warm water with a little 7 up in it. ( a glug or 2 )
If they are wilty…remove some of the outer petals. If they don’t perk up in the water you can lay the whole rose in warm water for an hour or so keeping the stems and heads submerged.
Have fun at the party!
HI Kathie,
I don’t think Hannah can help but be creative as she’s around her grandma so much! I’ll do what you said about the roses and hope it helps…
I will have fun at the party…even though I plan it all, I still have fun!!!
Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
