I did it! I actually did it! I got Josefina’s dress set done today and I will do my best to get it listed Wednesday evening on Ebay. It turned out to be a 7 piece set so there are lots of fun things to dress your doll with.
I added some buttons to her vest, and a bit of looped trim to the bottom side of the growth tuck in her skirt. Then I cut a piece of black velvet ribbon because I didn’t have any Ultrasuede cloth in black and ran the ribbon through a gold colored concho, for a sort of hip-slung belt. Oh, and I did make that skirt waistband smaller in width.
[If you click on any picture, it will enlarge.]
I added another piece to the set too… a black lacy shawl…which can be draped around her however you like…
Since I had already made the peasant blouse, I decided to just go ahead and include it in with the set and maybe if the winner doesn’t like it with the vest, it can be used with a pair of jeans…
I was going to make a pair of red shoes out of the snakeskin fabric, but I found these new boots in a package in my stash and decided they looked pretty cute with the set. The red shoes looked a little to “baby-ish” somehow…too much red.
I made 2 tiny braids starting at her temples and pulled them back. Then I used another gold concho and ran a piece of rose Ultrasuede through it. It picks up the colors in the apples…
Josefina is smiling bigger than any doll on the shelf… Does this set make YOU smile? If you have a name for it, I haven’t decided on one yet, and I’ll need one for my Ebay title tonight, so I’m open for suggestions…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Jeanne, I won’t say much now, since all I get is the first and last picture. The rest are completely black!
HI Linda,
Hmmmm…I wonder what’s going on? Laura is having troubles too… None of my pictures are black… I hope it’s just a glitch for a short time…
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
“Fiesta!”
HI Beth,
Fiesta is a good choice! I might need to go to town and find some little accessory for her before I take the pictures of it to list on Ebay…
Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
“Apple Delight”
HI Becky,
Well, I certainly have apples in Josefina’s size so I already have that prop if I decide to use Apple Delight!
Thanks,
Blessings, Jeanne
Something’s odd. It’s loading as it does on my email, even though I always read it direct from your blog so I can see everyone’s comments. I only see the first picture.
HI Laura,
I’m sorry it’s not working for you and Linda… I hope it gets straightened out soon! The first picture isn’t enough eye candy to start your day!!! :o)
Blessings, Jeanne
Beth has a good idea — could we add a word so that you could use “—- Fiesta!” or “Fiesta ——!” for other Josefina outfits?
Perhaps “Fiesta Ano Nuevo!” The N needs the y-sound symbol. The word order needs to be checked by someone who knows Spanish.
Jeanne, what are your five favorite titles for Josefina outfits? That might give us more ideas.
This outfit is certainly worthy of a feast.
HI Marilyn,
I’m a little late getting my comments on here again. I have Josefina’s set scheduled to go on in about 45 minutes or so. I went with Becky’s suggestion of Apple Delight. I had one last embroidered basket, so I stitched a handle on it and added 3 apples…viola! It was done… although I did go to town but didn’t find anything I liked any better.
I’ll have to look up my Josefina titles and see what I liked best.
Thanks so much Marilyn,
Blessings, Jeanne
Hi Jeanne,
If that isn’t the perfect outfit for Josefina. Love the different materials and how you put everything together.
I also like both names suggested. The black shawl looks very festive which might lean towards “Fiesta” however, the apples in her skirt are perfect for the other name. Glad you are the one to pick a name in the end.
Congratulations on Kirsten’s outfit last night. I checked in a little late to bid but it was late because I didn’t even think about the 3 hour difference in our time!! Sheesh!!
Have a great day!
Thank you Paula,
I was happy with how Josefina’s outfit turned out…but not as happy as she was! I decided on Beth’s title… Apple Delight, as I already had the apples. I almost did the title in Spanish… “Delicia de Manzana”, but just decided on English in the end, as it was too long and used up too many letters…
Yes, it was a pretty exciting auction last night as the bidding “war” started about 10 minutes before the dress set ended. It usually doesn’t happen that way.
Thanks Paula,
Blessings, Jeanne
All photos show up on both new and old computers.
The little boots are very special with the outfit.
HI Joy,
I was going to ask tomorrow on my post, how the pictures were looking to everyone. Since my brother got the flu when he was home for Christmas, I never got a chance to ask him about the settings and if he might have an answer as to why some pictures were small and some were larger…
I liked the boots with the outfit too… much better than shiny red snakeskin moccasins… maybe another outfit, but not this one…
Blessings, Jeanne
Now I can see all the pictures, Jeanne! Wonder what happened? Well, the whole outfit turned out so well, and I am sure Josefina is NOT going to want to take it off! I love the little button detailing on the vest, a needed touch. The belt is just what is needed too, and I like the fact that she will have two blouses for the outfit. You know what would have been cute too? If you had made a white blouse, maybe with 3/4 puffed sleeves, and have the red embroidery stitching on that like the others. My Josefina has all her camisas, so they can also be used for a blouse. This outfit certainly does have it’s options!
We just got back from the AG store and I looked at Lea Clark, the new GOTY, and her Rainforest Hut and Juice Bar. The doll is cute, not going to get her though, but the hut and juice bar are really nice, but have steep price tags,— at least to me! Her outfits are cute, but very simple. It is the patterns and colors of the fabric that make them special, I guess.
Hi Linda,
I agree that the price tags for the big GOTY items are really expensive, but the same is true of Maryellen’s diner. My daughter and I only consider the historical dolls, the older the time period the better. It’s good she’s an adult now for one reason, because even though she would have loved a fifties doll as a child ( we had some of the others time travel and made some clothes and accessories) I couldn’t have sprung for that diner. The Scenes and Settings were the big expensive item back then. We found PC in the early 1990’s, so I’m spoiled remembering those $18- $22 accessory sets and $20 dresses. I bet the new 1960’s doll, Melody, will get some huge pricey item as well.
Thanks Laura,
I used to have all the Scenes and Settings but sold them last year. Maybe I should have kept them… I find myself missing Sam’s bedroom scene and Molly’s class room scene.
I wonder what Melody’s big item will be?
Blessings, Jeanne
HI Linda,
Well, if I had had more time I could have made her a white camisa too, but I needed to get it listed as my mom and I are going to see my brother in Peoria on Sat-Monday. I have to get some extra posts written and just needed to stop. It’s going on Ebay this evening…in about 30 minutes…
The new Lea doll hasn’t rocked my boat yet, she just looks like every other doll to me…nothing out of the ordinary, so I’ll be passing on her too.
Did any other dolls catch your eye?
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
The shawl is just the right compliment to her outfit! Well done!
Thank you Jan,
I’ve had that fabric for a few years and the only thing I’ve ever made with it is shawls… :o)
Blessings, Jeanne
Hi Jeanne,
Thought I’d try again and it’s working fine. Kirsten’s lovely dress was certainly a hit for your first dress of the year, a few people were obviously “waiting in the wings”. Josefina’s new outfit is bright and colorful.
Lots of fun patterns all put together. The shawl and vest give two different wearing options and the boots will keep her warm and cozy.
I like the sound of “Fiesta Ano Nuevo” as well. That is the correct order, but you do need the tilde which is this ~ over the N.
HI Laura,
Yes, I was just as surprised as anyone when Kirsten’s dress sold for what it did!
I was thinking Josefina’s outfits can be almost like Kirsten’s dirndl’s… several pieces of fabric all mixed together to make the set. Josefina’s was fun to do… I could have added more but I ran out of time… A straw hat would have been my favorite thing to add, but I don’t have any flat crowned ones like she wore…
I went with the title that Becky suggested… Apple Delight and almost put it in Spanish… Delicia de Manzana, but decided to go with English instead.
Thanks Laura,
Blessings, Jeanne
I continue to be amazed at how you pull all the fabrics and colors together, and the shawl is such a clever and wonderful touch. And the boots are just the right color. I like the gold touch with the little belt and hair ornament. And two blouses! A great ensemble!
I found a tip on the Martha Stewart website that I’ll share as I tried it out today. Believe it or not, the sponge toe separators that are used for manicures work wonderfully for bobbin storage. Got them in a kit at The Dollar Store. They keep the thread tight and keep the end of the thread from escaping as it does in a plastic bobbin case which did not hold them firmly, and it was hard to get the little things out of the box. So 20 bobbins held for $2 and I can see the color very well.
A growth tuck was new to me and I had to look it up. So that explains all the little tucks in the clothes in the Fashions for Small Dolls” book: Authenticity. Interesting history.
HI Susette,
Thank you for all your sweet compliments on Josefina’s dress set. I am glad I had the boots in my stash as I think they work very well with the set…just the right color of tan.
I have seen that tip with the bobbins in a to separator before, but never tried it. I should.. I have mine all thrown in the compartment of my sewing machine and just dig around when I need one.
Yep, growth tucks… see… my blog’s “educational!” :o)
Thanks Susette

Beautiful outfit for Josefina! This is another winner.
Thank you Carolyn,
I’m glad you like it! So does Josefina…and I might have a hard time getting this one off her!
Blessings, Jeanne
