Well, it’s actually more of a “Guess ‘WHO’ came in the mail Tuesday?” I was bad; very, very bad. :o( I tried to resist, really I did, but it just wasn’t meant to be. I gave in and bought a new girl. I’ve been sort of looking for about 2 months now and finally found my girl. See if you can guess who she is…

Okay, so did you guess who she is yet?
Yep, I bought another Addy… I guess I must have been crazy to have sold my sweet girl in 2013, but I thought it would be okay to use Rebecca as a stand in and she seemed to be more versatile. I always missed Addy…she was “my Civil War girl” and nobody could really fill her shoes. Recently I began looking for a new one and was pretty particular about who would replace my original girl. This new Addy is very pretty and doesn’t have a mark on her face at all.
Her hair is very nice and long, although the wig has some lumps and bumps on her head.
She has very pretty coloring and nice soft brown eyelashes. The only downfall is her legs are quite loose. I guess I’ll be tightening those.
She came with 3 different sets of clothes, so I’ll sell those and make up some of the money she cost me. (Actually, I pressed the dresses and bloomers and got everything listed as a Buy It Now on Ebay, the night I got her, and they sold right away.)
I’m very pleased with my purchase and she seems really happy to be here but looks a little curious about my other girls.
I guess I’ve got some introductions to do, so I’ll see you tomorrow!
Blessings, Jeanne
Congrats on your new/old girl! 🙂 Nothing like a new doll coming home. What ever happened to the one you rescued, with the messed up face? Were you able to repaint her well enough to make you happy? Enjoy your Addy!!
HI Allie and thanks for reminding me about Kit’s lips. I have her standing where I can see her and know she needs to be “attended” to, but I kept forgetting to look for something to redo her lips with. Your comment this morning reminded me and I picked up a new watercolor pencil and I’m going to give it another try…
Thanks for your congrats to me on my new/old Addy!
Blessings, Jeanne
I just knew it!! You mentioned something about it in a reply to me, when I asked if you still had that beautiful Civil War Addy, that just caught my attention.! She is a beautiful Addy, Jeanne, and is such a lucky dolly to get to live with you! Those outfits are wonderful, that you now have sold, I see! I have both the purple and red/white ones, but Cecile wears the purple one and Molly the other! I changed that one a bit, put tiny rick-rack on it and gave the full sleeves a pleat with a red button on them, to make it look like a 40’s dress. It is really a bit full (skirt) for a 40’s dress, but Molly loves it, and she wears her saddle oxford shoes with it for school.
I learned a lot from all the wonderful ladies yesterday, and am so glad to see that I am not alone in my love for dolls,——–and I’m not crazy either!!
HI Linda,
I remember you saying something to me too, and I didn’t want to spill the beans… She really is a very pretty doll and I’m glad I sprung for her…She came on a day when my hubby had just left for work and Rebecca was at school, so it’s just mine and Addy’s little “secret” that’s she’s come to live here… :o)
It’s neat that you could use the Addy dresses for your girls…clever, clever, clever!!
It WAS nice to read all those comments yesterday, wasn’t it? I enjoyed it very much too!
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
Are you *sure* you’re not a ‘doll collector’? LOL!! Glad you got Addy ‘back’.
HI Mary,
Well….maybe I’m a “little bit” of a collector! I’m glad to have an Addy back with my girls too.
Thanks Mary,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, I do wish you’d let us know when you listed the Addy clothes. I’ve been resisting buying an Addy doll as I have three AG dolls already. I know so many people have many more, but . . . Maybe I’ll keep looking. Glad you have one now and shared that you have the patience to look for two months. She really was a hit with her beautiful dresses and hats. American Girl should be very happy with your Blog.
HI Susette,
I never even gave it a thought to let anyone know… usually I hang on the clothes and time goes by and I forget I have them. I have several other dolls outfits that I need to sell too. When I got all her things out, I just pressed them and took some pictures and listed them and they sold very quickly. I actually ended up getting Addy for $65 so I was very happy with that.
I hope you find one that you adore. I’ll keep my eyes peeled for a nice one…
Blessings, Jeanne
Addy is very lovely. I’m glad your patience paid off. She really is a beauty.
Thank you Becky,
Addy really is a very lovely doll. I’m going to tighten her legs, and then she’ll be perfect. I’ve got her hair braided in a pretty style and she’s just waiting her turn for a dress.
Thanks Becky,
Blessings, Jeanne
Addy is very pretty, Jeanne. She has always been my favorite of your dolls; I didn’t realize that she wasn’t still living with you.
HI Jevne,
Yes, selling my Addy in 2013 was one of those hair-brained ideas that I regretted almost as soon as I dropped her box off at the Post Office the day I sold her. She’s just the perfect model for the Civil War dresses and it’s nice to have her back in my collection.
Blessings, Jeanne
How exciting that Addy has come to live with you. She will be an excellent model as you well know from your previous Addy. Hopefully we will see something new you are going to be working on??
Allie mentioned the other doll you had with some work that needed work done on her face or was it her lips? I had forgotten about her and I’ve forgotten if you told us anymore about her?
Have a great day, Jeanne!
Thanks Paula,
Addy has settled right in on the dolly shelf, with all the other nudes… It will be her turn pretty soon.
Yes, the doll Allie was talking about was my Kit doll. I did her lips but wasn’t totally happy with them. I picked up a water color pencil today and want to see if I can get her lips fixed with it. The paint was just too “enamel” like when I tried it. We’ll see how this goes…
Thanks Paula,
Blessings, Jeanne
Glad you have a “new” Addy. She photographs so well.
How’s your weather? Sunny here in northern CA today.
HI Joy,
Yes, I think she’ll photograph well. Some of the Addy’s have a reddish tone to their skin and it makes it very hard to take pictures of them. This Addy has a very nice complexion and the fact that there are no rubs or shiny marks on her face helps a lot with the pictures.
Our weather is very cold today…29 degrees with a wind chill factor making it feel like it’s 19!
I just got home from town and the wind is brutal!
Thanks so much…enjoy your sunny California weather.
Blessings, Jeanne
You really needed Addy. Lots of us missed her as a model and this one looks especially pretty. Will she get the next dress?
Thanks for checking my spelling yesterday. I even misspelled Anneke’s name — Anneke van de Lijn. I left out the de. The correct title seems to be The Glove Marriage of Anneke van de Lijn. The dollmaker is Wendy Lawton.
HI Marilyn,
Yes, I DID need an Addy, didn’t I? I’ll tell my hubby you said so! It’s sort of customary for the new girl to move up to the top of the list, so I guess we’ll see…
That was very interesting about the doll… thanks for sharing that with us.
Blessings, Jeanne
I am curious, did your sister buy a doll at the Gettysburg mall doll shop! Do they have the cloth body and are they the same size as the AGdolls so you could use the doll as a dress model for fitting?
Now that we are into winter I hope we didn’t lose the opportunity to drive north to the mall and check out he store.
HI Jan,
Are you talking about the Dollie and Me store in Gettysburg? She isn’t into dolls like I am…she just sends me things she finds for MY dolls. She’s sending me some hats that she found and I’m really hoping they fit the AG dolls.
She just texted me and said they are supposed to get a big snow storm tomorrow…
Blessings, Jeanne
Addy is very cute and her clothes are too. Since you mentioned Trixie, I was hoping it was her…maybe you will still find one and sew for her too.
HI Regina,
Thanks for your compliments on Addy. It’s nice for her to be with my other girls now. She looks right at home.
As far as Trixie goes, I still check every night to see if a new one has been added. I’m pretty sure she’ll join my group one of these days…
Thanks Regina,
Blessings, Jeanne
Hi Jeanne,
I’ve been out most of the day and didn’t get to see this until just now. You might not even see it tonight. Oh, congratulations on getting an Addy back. I figured when I kept talking about her you would eventually get one. The old Addy’s do have some bumps under the wigs. My Felicity and Samantha each have a tiny one.
I hope to get an Addy again sometime. Wish I had embraced the fact adults could have dolls when I let my daughter sell hers. When I have some dolly money saved up I’ll look for one. I’m glad I had the sense to keep Samantha as mine has those super long soft eyelashes of the early German ones.
Wow, she came with a lot of clothes like my NIB Lissie came with three outfits and her cape (I kept everything! :-)). I’m surprised you sold her bonnet, that’s one piece I hung onto of Addy’s collection. You could have used it as a prop only. It is one of my favorite hats along with all of Felicity’s. Can wait to see what you’ll make for her.
HI Laura,
Oh, I’m so glad you approved of my new Addy… As I bought her, I was wondering what you would think of her… since you are such a historical and accurate doll love. I’ve missed her ever since I sold her so it was an easy doll to add back in. It sort of feels like a bad paper mache job under a section of her wig. But her hair is super thick so it’s not noticeable at all.
I thought about keeping her bonnet, but I drew out a pattern from it and think I can replicate it if I want. I also make a paper pattern of her straw hat just to get it the right size if I make her one. I wanted to sell the bonnet with the dress so it would be complete for the winner.
Oh, I’m so glad you approve of her. She really does have a lovely face and has been well taken care of. I’m over the moon… now that you’ve seen her.
Thanks Laura,
Blessings, Jeanne
Hello Jeanne
Congratulations on acquiring a new Addy. You mentioned that her legs are a bit loose? Would you consider doing a mini-tutorial on how to tighten them? My lovely Elizabeth’s legs are now also a bit loose and I would be interested in learning if it is possible to tighten them without actually having to remove stuffing and re-do the elastic holding the legs in place. By the way, I love your blog and read it every morning over coffee!
HI Louise,
I will try to show how to fix the legs next week. There are 2 ways to do it, but unfortunately they both involve unstuffing the doll. It’s not hard though. Maybe you’ll attempt it after you see how it’s done. It’s really not that scary…
Thanks for asking…
Blessings, Jeanne
