The start of American Girl Molly’s Christmas dress…

I don’t have much to show you, but thought I might let you take a look at how I put something together to see if I think it will work. I have an idea for Molly’s Christmas dress where there is a pretty white blouse, a black crushed velvet half jumper bodice and of course the red plaid skirt. I cut out all my pieces and then pinned them onto Molly and thought I’d show you how it starts out. You won’t believe how much it will change when I get to the finish… At least I hope it changes, because this isn’t much to look at right now…

If you missed it, Patsy’s dress was listed on Ebay last night. I was putting her on the shelf to wear her dress set until the auction ends and hopefully a new mommy wins it. Patsy spied the “box on the bottom of all the Christmas fabrics.” She asked me what was in it. I told her all my Christmas goodies. I made the mistake of showing her. Well, one thing led to another and we wound up setting up a Christmas tree and a few things around it. Since her dress had snowflakes in it, she wanted ONLY snowflakes on her tree. I thought I’d show you a few of those pictures of her around the tree. She looked pretty cute decorating it…

Well, it’s short and sweet tonight… I’ll work on Molly’s dress tomorrow and hopefully you’ll see some changes…Oh, and I haven’t forgotten about the blue and cream Regency dress. I am still waiting on Rebecca to find time between projects at school to make a necklace for it.

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. I cannot believe how much alike the outfit for Molly will be like the one I made for my daughter when she was about 3 years old! As I mentioned a little while ago, I had a beautiful plaid maternity jumper I had made for myself, and when I was finished with that I used the jumper to make outfits for my two little ones. Jennifer’s used the plaid for the skirt part, and black velvet for the top, and she wore a white puffed sleeve blouse underneath! It had two red rose appliques sewn on the black velvet bodice. Now all Molly needs is a pair of black patent Mary Jane’s to go with it! In Molly’s day it would probably be white socks, but Jennifer had tights. Just the same I can’t believe the similarities!

I see you already have a bid for Patsy’s outfit! I wish it was me!

Since we had a rainy day yesterday, I worked on Felicity’s dress—-yes, still working on it! I got a good part of it done, and she is wearing it, although it is still unfinished in the front–just pinned together, but snaps and the button come next. I seem to have misplaced the button! Have you ever done that?

    1. HI Linda,
I hope my dress for Molly’s looks just like the one your made for your daughter… memories!!!
I meant to say in my post that I would make sure and let Molly wear her black patent leather dress shoes with her dress.
I was thrilled to get a bid on Patsy’s dress so soon! Yay!
Well, I’m glad you can almost see the finish line on Felicity’s dress. You have certainly been persistent in making it and I’m very proud of you!
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. The Patsy dress is just beautiful. Love the furry trim and the jacket and hat. I was happy to hear Linda’s comment about the white socks as I made a plaid dress for Molly last week and was wondering about the shoes and socks. I don’t recall having other than white socks when I was a child, so my Molly is fine with white socks and patent Mary Jane’s. Thanks.

I remember your post about steam irons and want to share what I ordered on eBay for $15.73. It is a mini steam iron by Sunbeam, Model Hot 2 Trot, and is the perfect size for doll clothes. It is about the size of my hand and has all the features: Settings, steam, burst of steam, controls for both left- and right-handed steam control and heats up in seconds. It’s the perfect size to use with a sleeve board as the big iron is too precarious to balance on one. I do use the burst instead of continuous steam as the constant steam gets a little hot on my hand. I could not believe the quality and the price.

Can’t wait to see more of your wonderful creations. So glad you are sewing again.

    1. Thank you too, Susette, for the information on that iron. It’s what I have been looking for, and if you have used it and like it, so much the better!

    2. HI Susette,
Thanks for your sweet words about Patsy’s Snow Princess dress set. I’ll have to wait and see if Molly wants socks or tights to go with her dress, like Linda said.
I see that Joy and Linda both commented on your iron…it sounds like we all need one…I’ll have to check it out too… Thanks for all the information about it…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Love Patsy’s snowflake dress! The light blue is such a soft color, and the white fur trim is perfect for it. Of course, I always like the little embellished felt jackets you make for the smaller dolls. I’m anxious to see how Molly’s Christmas outfit turns out. I think it will look very festive on her. I hope you are still taking it easy with your foot, but I have a suspicion your foot will remind you if you over do it. Hopefully everything is healing nicely. It’s been an exhausting week for me, and I’m trying to take it easy myself, but I still need to get out later and get some errands like banking and grocery shopping done.

    1. HI Carolyn,
I do like Patsy’s dress on her and think she looks very pretty in this shade of blue. I’m glad it won out in the voting for the right fabric for her!
I’m hoping Molly’s dress turns out equally as cute on her as Patsy’s does on her.

I just got fitted for a shoe cast today… the dr. is now suspecting a stress fracture along the outside part of my foot.
It sounds like your week was a busy one and I hope you’ve been able to take it easy today. Errands and grocery shopping can sure wear you out… I haven’t been able to drive, so my hubby has been getting things here and there for me…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. The Winter blue is so cute on Patsy! Fur trim really looks cute too.
    How is the foot?
You just can’t go wrong with that Christmas plaid! She’s going to be so ready for Christmas!

    1. Thanks so much Kathie,
I’m glad I had the idea, I think it was from Linda, to use white fur on her dress set somewhere. I need to find more of it… it’s very fine and delicate, just what’s needed for a small doll like Patsy.
I’m hoping to get some done on Molly’s dress this evening. I just got back from getting a shoe cast… it’s no fun to wear…
      Thanks Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne
