As messy as my sewing room was when you last saw it…it got even worse….
[If you click on any picture, it will enlarge.]
…then even to this…
I knew it was going to, because I had to keep shuffling things around from one place to another just to be able to move. I have emptied a few clear tubs and put things in some drawers…speaking of drawers… I found an antique dresser upstairs that is the exact same height as my cutting table and it has 2 small drawers and 2 larger drawers…It would work if my hubby put a larger top on it, but I’m pretty sure I’d like to save up for one of those cabinets from IKEA or find a kitchen island that has lots of drawers in it. I can really see this working for me, sorting out all my different things and putting them in separate drawers…
He took down the closet rod and the shelf on top when he got home from work last night… after he ate his French Onion Soup and had some oatmeal cookies and milk… This is what it looked like…
Then tonight….when he got home, I asked him if he could bring down the small pantry he had built me a few years ago… It was just sitting empty upstairs… It was no easy feat to get it down the stairs by himself, but he did! YAY! It’s about 5 feet tall and 30 inches wide.
I liked all the shelves in it and for now have decided to put all my props and things I use for my dolls when I take pictures of them. I do have some furniture pieces I plan to get rid of so there will be more room and I have more drawers that have more props in that will end up in this cabinet. I HAVE to use it or my hubby will Kill me!
I have been working on the 2 bookshelves that I moved back where the closet rod and shelf used to be. The left side has my sewing books that I sometimes share a review with you.
The next shelf I’ve gathered all my Shipping supplies except for my boxes and put them on this shelf… my digital scale, my tape dispenser, my notepads, stamps, ziplock bags, etc.
The next shelf has my patterns and I have actually emptied out the two bottom shelves… I also emptied 2 clear containers on the shelving unit beside the bookshelf. I still have to work on the right side…
I found a hanging shoe/sweater holder upstairs and hung it up beside the bookshelf on the wall beside it. I took my flowers that I use for hats and things and bagged them up in gallon Ziplock bags and put them in the sweater holder. They are lightweight and out of the way.
I emptied out of the drawers to my file cabinets and gathered up all my paint supplies and put it in one drawer. I will probably put something else in that drawer too… lots of space in there.
…and I also found something I thought I was going to buy… a dolly sized Christmas tree! It’s the kind where you spread the limbs out, but it will be fine… no telling what other treasures I might find!
I’m hoping against all hope that I get this project finished tomorrow. I had no idea I had this much stuff! Lord, please don’t let anything happen to me with my room in this big of a mess! :o/
I’d also like to take just a moment to let all the dear loved ones in France who are suffering right now know that we are praying for you! What a horrific thing to be living in the midst of all this… My heart goes out to all who are hurting…May the Lord bless you and keep you!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Hi Jeanne,
For some reason I can’t sleep. It’s 5:10 in the morning! (not too early for some people though) I can’t read because my reading light doesn’t work and I can’t turn on the TV without waking up the household and doggies. So nothing like a little a cup of coffee heated up, reading and enjoying your blog. I’m not sure if I beat Linda to your blog.
This is a great blog today as your organization effort is coming along wonderfully!!! I am impressed with what you have done so far and it looks like things are falling into place!!! What neat cabinets you have.
I have sorting to do myself today, as well as work on some “to do ” lists. It’s good to feel a bit more on top of things, although as the holidays near, time and projects will get a little more hectic.
My energy level has improved along with my new knee and that’s making me feel better too. They are playing Christmas music on the car radio now so that makes errands far more enjoyable
Keep up the good work in the sewing room.
And yes, many thoughts and prayers to those in France during this horrific time.
Hi Paula,
It’s nice foe me to see my room getting back in order…I’m goign to need it super efficient if I plan on getting each dolls dress finished for Christmas.!
I’m glad your knee replacement is working well for you… you will be able to enjoy the holidays so much more.
Thanks so much Paula,
Blessings, Jeanne
I recently reorganized my sewing room. I *still* have to stop and think…’now where did I put that?’ Reorganizing is a BIG job… looks like you have it well under way, tho! congratulations!
Hi Mary,
I’m sure I’ll be doing that too…”now where is that?” It comes with the territory, doesn’t it?
Thanks so much!
Blessings, Jeanne
Love your sewing room and especially the window in just the right place. And a place for everything now! And you do seem to have everything . . .
Yesterday I asked a question about patterns for Ten Ping. I fortunately found the book you recommended earlier this year, “Fashions for Small Dolls” by Rosemarie Ionker, that I had ordered immediately after reading about it. It has basic patterns for 7, 8, 9 and 10″ dolls, so I have no excuse now. Talk about things getting lost in the confusion and here I had it all along! One could buy it just for the pictures of the dolls in the beautiful clothes. Thanks for the recommendation.
HI Susette,
Yes, I do seem to have everything I need. :o)…and more!
I hope you find time to make Ten Ping a sweet little dress from the pattern… I think you’ll like how it’s put together… Glad you found your book!
Blessings, Jeanne
I do love your sewing room photos…inspired me to do a little organizing in my little “sewing room walk in closet”/bedroom! Thanks! Like the organizational ideas, especially the “mail room” area you’ve set up! Great idea! Now back to those Christmas sewing projects!
P.S. Very nice sentiment about the Paris terror attack…:) Praying
Hi Suzanne,
Yay… my mess inspired someone else to do a little re-arranging in their sewing space! It’s fun when you get going on it… I’ve just GOT to get this wrapped up today…so I can start sewing again… I can’t go very long or I miss it too much!
Thanks Suzanne,
Blessings, Jeanne
Hi Jeanne! Yep, Paula beat me, plus a few others! I got up early and read the blog, then remembered I had forgotten to make coffee, so did that and then forgot to comment!
It usually works like that—things get a bit worse before they get better, but I do see that you have a good start to getting things reorganized. I believe my room with my dolls look like that when I am changing clothes. You can’t imagine the mess and utter confusion! It will all work out and you will once again have a nicer, more organized place to sew.
Oh, those poor people in Paris! What is this world coming to?
HI Linda,
I can’t wait to get at least a path made in my room… Like I told Suzanne, I HAVE to get this finished today… it’s taken me way too long…
I laughed when you said your room looks like this when you change your dolls clothes… surely you must be joking???? I am looking forward to finishing it up!
Yes, this world is sort of going berserk!
Blessings, Jeanne
I love seeing how you organize.. I am getting ready to tackle mine also.. I can’t even walk into the crafting room.. I do have lots of closed wardrobes but we worked on the basement and my hubby just carried everything up into the room.. one of my great treasures/finds is the oak door that I got for only $10 because it had a small scratch on one side.. the knob hole hadn’t even be cut yet.. I have it on top of 2 9 hole cubbies and it is perfect height for cutting and all kinds of crafting. My prayers also go out to the ones affected by the terrorist.
HI Kath,
Oh your cutting table sounds wonderful… I’d love to see a picture of it! Once you get going on the organizing….you can’t stop, so you just keep going… and just wait for the end! YAY!
Thanks for your comments, Kath,
Blessings, Jeanne
Wow! You did a great job of organizing! How I would like you to come to my house and help! I seem to move stuff from one place to another and then
now it just floats around… Hopefully some day I downsize my stuff and can fit it into my house! Have way to much stuff in totes in the garage.
My thoughts and prayers are with all the people and families in France affected by the terrorists.
Hi Sylvia,
Thanks for your thoughts, Sylvia. I read that you can’t organize clutter…so I’m trying to declutter as I go but I do know once I get everything assigned to a place, I’m going to go back through it and see what I can eliminate… I’d really like my sewing room to be pretty and have lots less containers and tubs… I like to have it accessible and easy to find, but I also like to have it out of site… I don’t like too many colors showing…except for my fabrics…
Thanks so much Sylvia,
Blessings, Jeanne
another sucessful project completed. You did just great with the room. we have so little space,, don mounted a board with pegs above the inside of a closet door so I hang purses on the pegs and one board above the door of a large pantry for overflow items. To think we left a finished large basement in our last house. We cleared that out by donating most to an auction for a needy family in town for medical bills. My husband found the house on google maps and I’ve noticed him looking at the house on the site several times, but the girls lived in N. Virginia and it is wonderful to live close. My magic closet needs help.
Hi Jan,
All I can say is just start small…get rid of the trash, don’t keep anything you don’t love, get rid of what’s not working, dream about what you’d like, do what you can to make your room just the way you want…even if it takes a while…
Blessings, jeanne
Love the improvements. Think the shipping center is great. And especially the prop room! I need something like that. Keep up the good work. I need as much inspiration as I can to motivate me to clean up my mess.
Peace for France
Hi Joy,
Glad to be an inspiration to you…I am trying to wind this huge project up so I can get back to my sewing…it will be nice!
Blessings, Jeanne
