Well for the first time ever since the start of writing my blog, I didn’t get comments made on your comments. I did read them all though… Thank you everyone. Sorry, I guess I am having too much fun at my sister’s house for our Girls Week!
This is a very thin paperback booklet, with only 16 pages in it, and is almost like a pamphlet, with just a few 18″ patterns in it. It is called Costume Cameos I and is the first book in Hazel Ulseth and Helen Shannon’s set. (The second book is called Costume Cameos II and they also have Costume Cameos 3 which has patterns for making antique bonnets.) Book I includes an outfit from the original 1887 pattern…a guimpe (blouse) with a a skirt and suspenders, a Scottish hat and an 1898 Sunbonnet. The fashion illustrations are what I love to look at… I draw inspiration from them and get ideas for future dresses. There are instructions for doing “cartridge pleating” and “how to do ribbons.”
I own their book, Antique Children’s Fashions, a 126 page book, and will do a review on it sometime…
I have used it twice for Addy and will show you how mine turned out… Here’s the blue one…
…and here’s my red one…
You can find these books on Ebay but sometimes they are listed as Costume Cameos Vol. 1 or, No. 1 or Roman numeral I, so if you just type in Costume Cameos and search under books you’ll most likely find them all.
I think they are a wonderful set of books to have and give them a thumbs up.
Blessings, Jeanne
I love old books and patterns. Thank you so much for sharing them with us. Such a treat!
Thanks Marsha,
This is a cute pattern and super easy to make.
I’m glad you enjoy it when I do a book review.
Blessings, Jeanne
Jeanne, you open my eyes all the time ! I really do love your book reviews. Please keep it up. On one of the pages I saw a dress that resembles Anne Shirley’s blue dress with “puff sleeves”, also known as “the most beautiful dress ever”. What a glorious moment that was to see Anne in the dress that Matthew bought her.
Enjoy your girls week!
Hi Jeannie,
I’m glad you liked seeing the dresses in this book. It is fun to see the oldie dresses on the pages of this book.
Thanks Jeannie,

Love the pattern. I’m sure ebay will sell out immediately. Those ribbon trims look so interesting.
I like both outfits on Addie, and especially the sleeves on the red one.
Hope your girls get together is lots of fun.
Thanks Joy,
