American Girl Josefina’s debut dress is finished!!!

Muy Bonita…yes, that’s what Josefina is in this new debut dress of hers….very pretty! I am so glad to have her back in my collection because I love sewing for her. I managed to get her dress done just a little while ago, but it’s almost 1 a.m. Tuesday morning, so obviously I didn’t get it listed on Ebay. My goal is to do that Tuesday evening.

When you last saw the dress yesterday, I had it partially constructed, but still had a ways to go before it was completely finished…snaps, beads to sew on the ruffle, lace on the skirt part, the back finished, everything hand tacked down, the shoes finished, the belt made, her hair styled, pictures taken….see what I mean…LOTS!

So here are a few pictures I snapped before heading off to bed…. I added some pretty glass beads to her neck ruffle.

Josefina likes this modeling part… I caught her trying to get a glimpse of herself in the mirror…

The waist has a set in band, and the Ultrasuede belt can be cinched up at her waist, but I still like it a little offset with the concho hanging down just a bit.

The back closes with 3 snaps at the top half…

Okay…so I’m not 100% sure about the ties I used in her moccasins. It is a cotton vintage trim that I had and it sort of works, but I’m thinking it’s a bit too “busy” looking with the vintage beads that Rebecca found for me. I tried a cream satin ribbon but it looked too “new” and so predictable.
So any opinions???

Here’s a couple more shots… I’ll take more for my Ebay listing…

I’ll probably try to find an “accessory” for her outfit too…

See you tomorrow,

    1. HI Beth,
I was in town and stopped by Hobby Lobby and got 2 different colors of suede cording in brown colors. The off white they had was too stiff and a little too wide. I’ll try these out and see what looks best…or maybe include both…
Thanks for your comments, Beth… I appreciate them…
      Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, I finally found the place on this site to make my comments. New computer with a learning curve.

I do love Josefina’s new dress. It is finished off so nicely with the lace trim and beads. The suede belt with silver buckle is perfect. And the shoes…. don’t know how you make shoes! She looks happy and beautiful !!

    1. HI Jeannie and WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME back!!!
It’s nice to have your input again!
Thanks so much for your compliments… I don’t think Josefina knows the ropes yet…that she has to give up the dress… eep!
      Thanks Jeannie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Hi Jeanne,
I can see why Josefina is trying to catch a glimpse of herself in the mirror, she looks very, very cute. I love her new ensemble, so pretty and perfect for her! I especially like the beading you added on the lace. Her shoes look fine to me, but maybe try ultra suede laces in brown or ivory; that might look better to you.

    1. HI Cindy,
Thanks so much for your sweet words about Josefina’s outfit. I did stop at Hobby Lobby and picked up a couple of suede cords to see which one might work. I knew they were too “frilly” or something…
      Thanks, Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Hi Jeanne! Josefina looks just wonderful in her new outfit! I love the extra touch of the beading and the belt! I am on the fence about the shoelaces, they just seem too “fancy” of something, and I think maybe like previous people say, plain ultrasuede ;might be better, maybe in a soft ivory, to match up with the ivory lace. Everything else seems to be period correct, just not the shoelaces. Any which way you go, the whole ensemble is darling!

I also love the way you have two small braids in her hair, and the rest hanging down. I’ve never tried that, but just might see if it would work on my Josefina.

    1. HI Linda,
I got some brown suede cording at Hobby Lobby but haven’t tried them yet… but anything will be better than the ones I had… I just knew they weren’t right. Thanks so much for your compliments on her dress set. I think she’s pretty darling looking in it, if I do say so myself.

I was trying to do her hair in some fancy hairdo and I needed some bobby pins. I searched everywhere in my sewing room and can’t find them anywhere. I know they are in there somewhere, but where? I french braided and knotted, and twisted and pulled back, but I needed those bobby pins to hold it… I finally gave up after about an hour and just added the 2 braids at the side, like how she looked when she came to me… Glad you liked her hair the way I finally had to leave it…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Love, love Josefina’s outfit! The beading on the ruffle is very pretty and also the belt. I think the shoes would look fine with just the red ultra suede shoe laces.

    1. HI Regina,
Well, I picked up some suede cording at Hobby Lobby so we’ll see what I decide on… I actually thought about the red being used for laces too…and I might still try that out.
I appreciate your kind comments on Josefina’s dress set. I’m glad you liked it…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Nice job! She has the sweetest expression. Love the Concho belt with the Ultrasuede..and those buttons on the moccasins are perfect. Maybe a thinner piece of ultrasuede and another Concho would make a cute hair accessory?

    1. HI Kathie,
Thanks so much for your sweet comments on Josefina’s dress. I wish I had sewn the beads on her shoes “before” I stitched them together. It would have been “SO” much easier…
I like the idea of a concho in her hair… hmmmm….
      Thanks Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. Thanks so much Joy,
I appreciate you taking time to tell me how much you liked it… I’m going to have to play with her hair some more…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. inJoanns or Michaels I have found thin cording in brown and black, but no white. A length of white crochet thread made into a single crochet st is another suggestion.

    1. HI Jan,
I found some thin suede cording at Hobby Lobby and I’m going to try shoe laces out of it…
They had off white but it was too stiff and thick for shoe laces…
      Thanks so much Jan,
      Blessings, Jeanne
