Shoes and Smocking and Strumming…

Okay… for the SHOES part: I have mastered Ten Ping’s shoes…again…and hopefully for the last time. I’m very pleased with these and so is Ten Ping. She was doing the Happy Dolly Dance but I don’t know how to load video’s on my blog or I would have shown it… :o) I was doing the Happy Dolly Dance too! I tweaked my pattern and made the shoe a slip on first and then added the strap. I took Kathie’s advice and made the strap more narrow, although I just stitched the button down and it still slips onto her foot very easily. I tried it on with her red and black plaid dress just to show you how they look, but I think I’m going to list them with a different outfit. I am going to try and get a new pair of black Mary Jane’s made before the auction ends tomorrow night… you can see the auction HERE.

Next is the SMOCKING part: Someone commented on my Felicity dress that sold the other night for a very generous amount. She asked me if that was the highest priced dress I had ever sold? I told her it wasn’t, so several people wanted to know what was the highest priced outfit I ever sold… Well, here it is… on Lian, my 13″ Dianna Effner Little Darling. It was a pink smocked dress and looked so pretty on her. I was very humbled and stunned at what it went for. Every seamstress needs to have at least one of these moments in their lifetime…

I don’t want to just blurt out the price, but I’ll do it this way, if you want to figure it out…

125 x 6 = _____ + 43 = _____ – 64 = _____ x 4 = _____ divided by 4 = _____ – 129 = _____ x 3 = _____ divided by 6 = _____ + 107 = the price it sold for! You might want to do it twice just to make sure you didn’t get a thousand dollars… It didn’t go that high!

And just to let you know I didn’t fiddle with Ten Ping’s shoes all day long… here’s the STRUMMING part… but it’s only a small tease…sorry… I know it’s hardly anything to go on, so I will leave you to your imaginations to see if you can figure out what this is going to be…

  1. Oh my, what adorable shoes for Ten Ping! They look just right and I am sure you can make many shoes like that in various colors and maybe embellished if it calls for that! Just perfect, Jeanne!

Oh, that smocked dress! I am SO impartial to smocking! I don’t do it myself, but I remember my daughter’s first Christmas dress at the age of 10 months–a red Polly Flinders smocked dress! Why aren’t you smocking more dress for the dolls? They are so different and who doesn’t love a smocked dress?

I’m not sure who that Little Darling doll is, because you change wigs on them, but is that Isabelle? I don’t believe I have seen that wig before, but the new outfit looks like it will be so cute, and with a guitar? Can’t wait to see !

    1. HI Linda,
Yes, now that I’ve sort of gotten it right, I’m wanting to make a few pairs of shoes in all the different colors of Ultrasuede I have in my stash. Thanks Linda!

I know… I need to smock more… everyone seems to like it and its’ not hard to do…
I remember seeing those Polly Flinders dresses… they were always darling!

No, my doll is Janie… she is the only one I change the wigs on. Isabelle always stays a brunette, and Lian always stays in her little bob.
      It might be a guitar…

      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Yes, I think you can stop trying to perfect Ten Ping’s shoes, Jeanne. You got it, they are perfect! I haven’t done the math yet, it is way too early for that. I do remember, though, that quite a few (okay, a lot) of your dresses went very high (and well deserved too).

Are you making Little Darling shoes too? That’s my only guess that I can come up with, sorry. Now, you’ve peaked my curiosity with your teaser pictures… hmmm.

    1. Thanks for your very sweet words Cindy! I want to try another pair of shoes for Ten Ping just to see if the second pair turns out as well as the little red ones did.

Yes, I have been very blessed by some wonderful sales on my dresses. What a job I have… it’s not work, but more like play!

Shoes for the Little Daring??? Could be…
      Thanks so much Cindy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. Thanks so much Maureen,
It’s only taken me 3 months and 20 trial runs to get it… I think I should get a “gold star” for it!!! I’m anxious to try a second pair now…
      Thanks,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. Thank you for your very kind words MaryC! I’m glad you all are liking them… they certainly have taken up a lot of my time… but I wasn’t about to give up on them…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Ten Ping’s shoes are FABULOUS!!!! They’re perfect…I love them and I can tell she does too. I know how hard you’ve worked on those and for quite a while too. I did the math problem 4 times and got a different amount each time..finally just gave up. I remember when you listed that dress…how badly I wanted it and I remember it going for a very nice price. It was worth every penny…it’s just gorgeous. I wish, now that I know you a little bit, that I had made winning it a priority. Oh well…maybe someday you’ll do another. (??????)….and I’m afraid I have no idea at all on the “strumming” thing.
I wish you a day filled with happy moments!

    blessings,
    bobi

    1. HI Bobi,
Thanks so much for your nice compliments on Ten Ping’s shoes. I wouldn’t call them perfect, but they are close enough for me and I hope as I do others I’ll tweak my pattern and eventually get it where I can call the perfect!
It’s funny that you remember that pink dress being listed and wanting it. Yes, Bobi, there will be more. I do need to do more smocking… as everyone seems to like it so much.

So the strumming thing has you baffled? Just wait…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. I love Ten Ping’s shoes..they are perfect! Wow, if I did the math right that was a very nice sale. It looks like Janie is going to a country/western show..maybe?

    1. HI Regina,
Thanks for thinking Ten Ping’s shoes look okay!
It was a nice sale… and the funny thing was it jumped from $165 to “that” price in the last 4 seconds!! My hubby and I were jumping up and down!!

      You might be right, Regina…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Hi Jeanne,
I does look like you have mastered the tiny shoes. The red ones are really cute.
Lian looks very sweet in that dress and smocking is a perfect touch. As Linda commented about Polly Flinders, I will, too. I wore a few Polly Flinders dresses as a child and my daughter got to wear them also.
My guess it that you either bough or tried your hand at making a guitar and Janie is being a 1970’s girl. I like the instruments that AG has made. My daughter took violin lessons for 12 years and I bought the violin AG made so that Kirsten could “practice” with her.

    1. Thank you Laura… Ten Ping said they fit just fine… so I decided to use the pattern as my master one.
Janie picked “this” instrument out of my stash…now it’s up to me to finish the look she wants.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. I agree with everyone, Ten Ping’s shoes are just right! You did it, however I never doubted your ability with all the other magnificent things you’ve sewn or re-done. Such talent Jeanne!
I agree with Cindy on the shoes for the Little Darling dolls? A violin?
    Can’t wait to see!
    Have a great day!

    1. Thanks so much Paula,
I appreciate your kind compliments on my work, Paula. I do try hard and I hope it shows.

I guess I’ve got some people stumped on the instrument.. now I can’t wait to reveal it…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Congrats, you’ve passed Shoes 101, so now on to guitar making??
At a meeting one time, I was working on a little smocked dress for a cousin. One lady said, “I would never do it by hand, I just use my machine!” Could have smacked her! Your little smocked dress is adorable. And I did the math, no calculator, great price!

    1. HI Joy,
Well, if it’s Shoes 101 that I was in, I surely flunked as I had to redo them many many times before I got them right!
Your “smacked” line made me laugh out loud.. there is nothing quite so pretty as hand done smocking. Thank you so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. HI Jevne,
Give the math project to one of your grand kids… see what they come up with. Thanks for the compliments on the shoes… long time coming!!!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Add my comment to all the others. The shoes look great! I will use a calculator. My math skills are the worst.

    1. HI Jan,
Thanks for checking in and adding your comments to the others. I’m glad you all liked the new shoes for Ten Ping.
I had to use a calculator just to make up the problem!!! I bet my math skills are worse than yours!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. By Jove Matey…I think you have it!
The shoes are just perfect! That trim on the edge is the cleanest look for shoes ! You get lots of Kuddos for sticking with it until they came out just right!
The smocked dress is a prize winner for sure no wonder it went high! Pink on her is such a sweet combination!

    1. Thanks Katie,
There is no one more thrilled than I am that I have finally come very close to having these little shoes work. I can’t wait to make some more out of the Ultrasuede you sent me… I love the colors… I think I’ll get faster as I do more… at least I hope so…
Yes, doesn’t pink look perfect on Lian! She is so photogenic anyway…
      Thanks again,
      Blessings, Jeanne
