At least I hope you haven’t seen it before… I did a search for anytime I mentioned Bitty Bethany in one of my posts and I couldn’t fine one single picture of this sweetie in her hankie dress. YAY…something entirely new! It’s supposed to be in the high 80’s Thursday, so this will be a perfect post…something cool looking. ( I was going to feature LEAVES….)
I discovered this darling vintage hankie at an antique store and still remember finding it in a basket with some others and thought it was the prettiest, nicest, and most fun hankie I’d found in a really long time. (I have since had my eyes open every time I go in an antique shop and sometimes I even search on Ebay for it.) I know there had to be more than ONE made, but I don’t know if I’ll ever find it.
Anyway, I made this dress with a detachable collar back in 2008 for my 10″ Bitty Bethany, by Helen Kish. She was a booger to pose. Her head only moved the right way when it was tipped to one side and her legs were sort of bow-legged, so she had trouble standing. I did the best I could when I photographed her.
This was one of my very favorite dresses for her. Maybe it was just because I succeeded in making that tiny little collar and it came out just right! or maybe it was that hankie again… I did love it! I guess I better show you some pictures so you’ll know what I’m talking about…
Okay, was I exaggerating or isn’t that just the sweetest little hankie dress? Sorry it sounds like I’m bragging but I’m just thrilled that I found the pictures… I don’t know where they’ve been hiding.
I also was playing around with adding a paypal button to my website so I could sell things from here. I got the plugin loaded and I can see the page, (I just listed a blue slip to try it out.) I can’t seem to get it all the way figured out, but wanted to tell you, if for some reason it pops up and you see a slip for sale, using paypal, don’t buy it.. I’ve got to try it out first before I accept any money from anyone.
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Such a sweet little dress, Jeanne! I remember those kind of hankies! Those were the days, when you would get a hankie in your birthday card, or even one from Santa at school! Just think how thrilled kids now would be to get a hankie! Oh, why did I throw mine away??
Good morning Linda,
I had to laugh when you said, “just think how thrilled kids now would be to get a hankie!” I guess times have changed, but it was nice to get one…I remember it too… or when you got that packet of them for each day of the week… oh those memories…
Thanks Linda…
Blessings, Jeanne
I love light blue and hot pink together. That hankie is a little gem and you did it justice with Bethany’s dress, Jeanne, love it! I’d love to make a little white mohair sweater for that dress and embroider bright pink roses on it… (I know it’s long gone.)
I was looking into using the Paypal button, but I didn’t think it would know to disappear when the item sold, so essentially I could keep selling multiples of something that I only had one of if I didn’t go in and manually delete it. If you figure it out, please let me know. I had an issue a few outfits ago where I forgot to republish my site with the item marked sold. I kept on getting emails to purchase it… boy, did I feel bad, and a bit dumb.
Ebay can be so expensive. They just took a good chunk out of my Paypal account for my doll sales last month.
We are hot here too. Today will be the hottest… and I will be sewing a Christmas dress. LOL
HI Cindy,
Oh one or your little white mohair sweaters with hot pink flowers on it would have been a dream with that dress! I actually found myself looking at the knitting things yesterday at Joann’s. I am so in awe of you ladies who can knit these tiny little sweaters for the dolls. I think a sweater is such a nice addition to any dress. YOU do such a nice job at it!!! Really!!!
I watched the tutorial on how to do the paypal button, but I’m not sure I got the end part of it right…obviously I didn’t… I asked my daughter Rebecca and she doesn’t know anything about the terminology of blog stuff. Maybe it’s not a paypal button I’m looking for, maybe I want a store where there is a checkout cart using paypal… maybe that’s something different. Yes, paypal can take a big chunk of your profit, but the final value fees are what get me..
I think it’s supposed to get hotter next week too… oh well, Fall is delayed again…
Christmas??? Oh Cindy, you are way too organized and on track… :o)

Beautiful vintage hankie. I love the way you combined it with the dress fabric. So adorable!
Thanks so much Marsha,
I appreciate your kind comments. Had you seen in before back in 2008?
Blessings, Jeanne
The hankie dress is adorable. I remember those hankie days. I always had one in my little purse for church and felt so grown up.
The hankie dress looks so sweet on Bethany.
If it’s going to be hot, I’m staying indoors.
Stay cool today Jeanne!
Oh, that would be great to have paypal on your site.
Thanks you Paula,
I’m glad you liked Bitty Bethany’s dress. It’s funny how we all remember having these hankies and if I told my daughter about having them, she’d think it was the weirdest thing ever! My how times have changed in just a few short decades.
Maybe I’ll get the paypal thing figured out sometime…
Thanks Paula,
Blessings, Jeanne
I’d forgotten about getting handkerchiefs in cards. They were beautiful treasures. Remember collecting pretty playing cards and trading cards them?
The dress and the collar are darling. I’m so glad you found the pictures.
HI Marilyn,
Yes, birthday cards with hankies in them… sounds sort of strange even now to me…but I was one of the ones who got them. They were dainty little things we kept nice and pretty for as long as we could. I don’t remember playing cards or trading cards…
Thanks for your comments on Bitty Bethany’s dress. I’m glad I found the pictures too!
Blessings, Jeanne
Such a great little dress. I’ve been studying your photos, but how did you connect the hankie and the white fabric? Was the hankie already scalloped? Then stitched ontop of the white? Or did you go over the scallops with stitching, connecting the fabrics together? It makes a lovely effect.
HI Joy,
The hankie was already scalloped with that lovely white border…isn’t it pretty? That’s what I liked so much about it.
Thanks for asking…
Blessings, Jeanne
That is a super cute Hankie! I’ll watch for one too. Bethany is so tiny…but what a nice job you did on her dress and accessories!
Thank you Kathie,
I had 2 Bitty Bethany’s…one with auburn hair that I rewigged and a blonde Bitty. I liked their size, but not their body shapes so much. They had little protruding tummy’s and their legs were very hard to make them pose…like I said before…sort of like bowlegged…
Thanks so much for your kind comments…
Blessings, Jeanne
You got a lot of prettiness from one little hankie, Jeanne. Love it!
Thank you Jevne,
Yes, I did!
Blessings, Jeanne
Love the dress! I always remembered to take a hanky to church as I rolled it up to make a doll or twin dolls
i have recently become interested in Bethany. A friend once told me The Bethanys that came in tubes were the ones to buy. I never could understand the protruding tummy’s on Kish dolls and the sway backs. Not fun for a doll seamstress.
Hi Jan,
Thanks so much for your kind words about Bitty Bethany’s dress.
My red headed one is one from the tubes… I think her name was Tres Chic Bitty Bethany and she had the most awful yellow mohair wig ever put on a doll. I took it off of her within an hour of receiving her and replaced it as quickly as I could with the reddish bob you see on her… a much better look! I used to sew for the Bitty Bethany dolls quite a bit, but they just sort of fizzled out and I sold mine.
Yes, the sway backs and the protruding tummy’s weren’t much fun to work around…
Thanks,
blessings, Jeanne
Again,
I know I’m over a year behind, but both this hanky dress, and Felicity’s dress are awesome!
