Hannah’s very special Tea Party…

(My sister and her crew have been here visiting for a few days and so I’ve been a little preoccupied, but they are leaving in the morning so I’ll get back to my sewing ASAP! I wanted to let you know I got your comments answered last night, but it was late again.)

While my sister was here she shared some very sweet pictures of Hannah…(you all remember her…my nieces little girl that I made the flower girl dress for…) Hannah wanted to have a tea party with her mom, her grandma (my sister) and grandpa was to be the Butler. Everyone had their part to do…
Hannah made the invitations and passed them out a few days ahead of time.

My sister, Cindy, made the party hats… even one for Sylvie, their cat.

Amy, Hannah’s mom, made the food… peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, cookies, fruit cups and of course, Tea!

Hannah picked out her favorite dress to wear…decisions, decisions…

I was told the Butler worked tirelessly

…and my favorite picture… Hannah called for the “Butler” from the kitchen, and got an answer from “grandma”…. “The Butler’s asleep!”

“He’s what?”

Isn’t that just the sweetest party? I just had to share it.

See you tomorrow,

  1. Oh, what a cute tea party, Jeanne! I can’t say that Sylvie, the cat, looks too thrilled though!! I like the picture of Hannah daintily sipping her tea! The lit candle in the background just adds to the ambience! Fun times for the whole family!

Unfortunately, my granddaughters are too big now for tea parties, but we certainly had them! What is it about little girls and tea parties? It’s just plain fun, I guess!

    1. HI Linda,
Wasn’t it cute? Yes, I have to agree, Sylvie doesn’t look very happy!
Hannah is already talking about the tea party for next year…

Maybe you could just have a luncheon with your granddaughters now… think of something special, but not focus so much on the tea party part of it..

I am going with my mom, and Cindy, back to Deb’s down in Springfield, MO in October for a “girls week” and we plan on going to the Tea Room again… You’re never too old for tea parties… :o)
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Thanks for writing about this Jeanne! This tea party turned out to be more of a success than I thought it would with all the details Hannah had involved! I had wanted to bring her to a butterfly tea party in town but it didn’t work out, so this was my back up plan!
Hannah had such fun ringing her bell for our “butler”!
I think our tea party was the best tea party ever! Hannah has already reminded me several times she wants to have another tea party same time next year!

    1. Good morning Amy,
Your Tea Party looked like it was so much fun… I bet Hannah chattered non stop about it for days afterwards..
I just saw the “bell” in the last picture… how cute!
Thanks for letting me share this snippet of your fun day with my readers…
      Love you Amy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. When my mom got tired of having big dinners, she enjoyed giving teas, especially because we would all bring things to share. Her pretty china and nice tablecloths could still be used, the food looked beautiful, the company was good and not overworked and exhausted, and we could try new recipes. Tea is a wonderful idea, even if you don’t have a butler. Besides, it’s nice to have an occasion for pretty dresses. They’re not just for dolls.

    1. HI Marilyn,
I personally don’t like the taste of tea, but we’ve always had tea-get togethers with friends and family. I like going to tea rooms with my sisters and mom…
It sounds like your family enjoyed tea time too…
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. What fun!!! That last picture of Hannah is priceless, gave me a chuckle. It looks like you had a memorable and fun visit with your family. Your photos look great, btw.

Oh, I LOVE Hannah’s dress. She looks so pretty!

Hope you can get something (sewing) done today.

    1. HI Cindy,
Yes, that last picture IS priceless. I think I’d have to enlarge that one and frame it!
I DID have a good time with everyone! There’s nothing quite so nice as family!

I’m hoping to get some sewing done, but I have to do a little catch up here at home for a bit.
      Thanks Cindy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Good morning, Jeanne,
Hannah’s tea party looks charming. The party hats are great. My daughter had a tea with her friends for her 8th birthday. Everyone was to bring a doll or two and my daughter had her Mary Ellen and PC Kirsten.. I even made a teapot pinata. That was before they were so easily found in stores.
The butler must have work very hard and I love Hannah’s expression when she’s told the butler is asleep. Grandpa deserves a reward for all his hard work.
Just curious, when you said Felicity dress was not the highest selling one you made, I would love to see what was. Maybe you would do a post on it. :-)It amazed me what a doll bridal dress went for on another auction once. I think it was $400+. I know all the time and effort that must go into making them and it’s wonderful that people can make a living doing something they love. The seamstress must be absolutely delighted when her creation goes that high.

    1. Hi Laura,
Tea parties are something little girls always remember! Sometimes the more simple the better… but a teapot pinata….how fun that must have been!!!
Yes, those Butler’s work pretty hard I think! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve looked at that last picture of Hannah, where she’s told the Butler is asleep… I think it is hilarious!

My highest priced dress was for a Little Darling dress…a pink one that I had smocked. It sounds a bit like I’m bragging, so maybe I’ll send a personal email and a picture of the dress… I was shocked, to say the least!
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. The tea party was absolutely precious. Loved the pictures of her and especially the “butler” episode. So cute.
I think it’s great that Hannah wants to have a tea party next year… perhaps a tradition for her?

    1. HI Paula,
Wasn’t it a cute party? I think it will become a yearly tradition… they did enjoy it so much!
I’m so glad my sister shared her pictures with me… would love to been a fly on the wall that day!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Be sure and have another Tea Party ASAP before she gets any older. I always dreamed of having pictures of my Granddaughters in the garden having a Tea Party in old fashioned dresses. We did do it and those are some of my favorite pictures ever.
Could you show us the pink smocked dress that you made for Little Darlings?
    Don’t work too hard.!

    1. HI Kathie,
Hannah had so much fun, they will most definitely do it again!
Your tea parties with your granddaughters sounded wonderful! I’m sure they are some favorite memories of the girls too!
Maybe I’ll show the pink dress tomorrow… It was pretty, but I was very surprised at the ending!!
Thanks Kathie… I never work too hard!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Nice party. Best dress picked. So, my eyes landed on the plant on the table. Looks like one my grandmother had years ago. Any idea if it might be a begonia? or?
    Thanks.

    1. HI Joy,
I asked my sister what the plant on the table was called and she said she just calls it a grape leaf ivy.
      Thanks so much Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. The two necklaces arrived in the mail yesterday. They are beautiful and so well-made. Little fingers won’t have trouble with the magnetic clasps and they won’t get caught in the doll’s hair. Thanks for thinking of that detail. Really first class!

The tea party was enjoyed by your readers as well, I’m sure. The last picture is priceless, though all are so cute. Lovely dresses. Great pie safe also; we all look at the backgrounds, of course.

Keep up the great creative work, both you and Rebecca. Love the necklaces, Susette

    1. HI Susette,
Thanks for letting me know the necklaces arrived…and that you liked them.

I thought everyone would enjoy the Tea Party with Hannah today!

You should SEE my sister’s house… it should be featured in a magazine…it’s that nice…and she does the majority of it by shopping at a rescue mission near her house. She is extremely talented when it comes to home decorating… maybe I’ll feature her some day! I think you all would enjoy it…
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. Hanna is your own living doll! Little girls love tea parties! I’m from the South, so my girls had lots of them growing up! Enjoyed your photos.

    1. HI Suzanne,
Yes, Hannah is a living doll! She even named her American Girl doll after me and calls her Jeanne…what an honor is that!! I bet your girls remember all of them too!

Thanks Suzanne, and welcome to my blog!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. Hannah has grown since the wedding and how cute Sylvie is included in the festivities. Is she a cat that travels? Any caefine, including in Chocolate,is not allowed for me. I crave chocolate bars at times, but salted, very buttery
    Popcorn will do too.

    1. HI Jan,
Yes, Hannah has grown since the wedding, and she’s in first grade now!!
Sylvie stayed at home and one of Hannah’s aunts took care of her.
I like chocolate too, anything salty and popcorn as well!
I think they skipped the chocolate at the tea party and opted for fruit!
      Thanks Jan,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  12. That looks like a fun tea. The cat did’t look like she was very happy about the hat, but everyone else seems to be having a good time. I love the fact that Hannah dressed up for the occasion.

    1. HI Carolyn,
I think it was a fun party for everyone… except Sylvie! She did look a bit out of sorts!
Hannah LOVES to dress up in dresses so this tea party was right up her alley!
      Thanks Carolyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  13. The pink smocked dress mentioned above was especially lovely — I remember it had a memorable auction, but it seems to me that there was an outfit that included a jacket and embroidery that did very well for itself too. It would be fun to see the five outfits that got the highest prices, even if you don’t share what those prices were.
I did see an Ebay dress with a sterling silver bodice that was going for more than I paid for my last car. Imagine having to polish a doll dress. It did come with a doll, and the poor girl looked just miserable — pretty but quite dismal.

    1. HI Marilyn,
I just found the pictures of Lian in her pink dress and I’m going to share it tomorrow. I have to admit, it was a pretty dress on her. I should smock more often…
I was the one who told everyone about the silver bodiced dress and it was incredible. There were lots of opinions on the young lady modeling it… miserable is a word that came up several times, as I recall…
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne
