A few treasures and a few thank you’s….

Before I show you a few of the things I found on my Anniversary weekend getaway, I wanted to thank Kathleen, one of my subscribers, for what she sent to Sara. When Sara got her American Girl doll from Magalie (HERE), Kathleen told me she had some white glasses that she wanted to send to Sara. They came a few days ago and I wanted to share them and thank Kathleen publically. I am going to see Sara tomorrow and will give them to her…

Then I received another birthday card from Kathie…another one of my subscribers… I just loved the card and what it said on the inside. I have made so many friends since I started my blog and I’m so grateful to all of you. Kathie also sent me some stretchy lace that I can for sure use on dolly slips and panties. Thank YOU Kathie…

Okay, now for the yard sale… well, the one in May, on Memorial Day weekend, is bigger and better. I knew I was going to go shopping on Saturday, at some fabric shops, so I was being sort of picky and only buying things that were really low priced. I found these little baggies that I can use to sort tiny tidbits in…a whopping purchase of .10 cents!

CIMG2552

I also found these small plastic containers. They might work for the pearls that I sometimes sew on my dresses. It will be easy to see the different sizes at a glance.

A lady was selling several wooden brooches and I wasn’t sure if this one would be too big or not, and I’m still not sure. It looks huge in the picture, but in person, I think it will be okay. I need to get a dress made and see if it makes a difference. It’s very very pretty. I might be able to use it on a hat if I had to.

CIMG2562

I was looking at a pile of clothing a lady was selling and this pretty corduroy dress caught my eye. It has the prettiest colors in it and I’ve never seen this floral design before. I will wash it and re-purpose it into a dress for one of my dolls to model.

I found 2 Walmart bags full of fabric scraps (just what I need…), that were only .50 cents each. I thought there might be some hidden “treasure” fabrics inside the bags. When I tried to pay for them, the lady said to just take them…for free. So I did. There were no real “finds” in the bags. A couple of fairly nice fabrics that I can use, but most of them aren’t my style, and she obviously doesn’t do doll clothes. I think she was a quilter from the shapes of some of the scraps. I’ll sort through them better later…

I found this vintage Swiss hankie in an antique shop. I think it will make a lovely apron for a doll’s dress.

I have used up almost all of my data for the month and still have 8 days to go before it’s reloaded again. I only have 15% left, so I’ll have to spread out my pictures for at least 2 days. Sorry about that.

Tomorrow I’ll share what I found when we went shopping on Saturday…it’s much better!

I did want to show you something else… When we got back home, I had a few packages waiting for me… I had won this blue lace on Ebay and it will make the most wonderful half slips for Maryellen…I can’t wait to make some out of it.

CIMG2594

I also found this white lace that is 12″ wide I think. I can cut it in two sections and make 2 different style slips. They will be pretty too!

CIMG2595

One pair of shoes I didn’t own was a pair of black and white saddle shoes like was worn in the 40’s and 50’s. I decided to buy a pair off Ebay…

CIMG2590

So that’s all for today… I hope you’ll come back tomorrow and see the pretty fabrics I found. I just love them.

I got Felicity’s dress cut out and hope to work on it tomorrow. I’ll see if I can manage to get anything done on it to show you. She’s up next and I’m anxious to see how she looks in the dress made from the fabric you voted on for her.

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Jeanne, from the last picture, I can see that you are NOT making the En Forreau dress for Felicity!! I’m still working on mine, but I didn’t get as much done on it this weekend, due to being busy. I tell you, I could NEVER sew for other people and be lucky enough to get paid for it!! 😉

Oh, that printed corduroy reminds me of the slacks I used to make for my daughter when she was small! It went well with all kinds of tops and was nice and warm!

Yes! Those saddle oxfords are just what you need to model the 50’s fashions, but be sure to get bobby socks to go with them. Really, any white socks will do, and sometimes it is a hard squeeze to get the shoes on over the socks.

That blue lace is lovely for a slip! That hanky is beautiful too! Lucky you, to get all those goodies, and little baggies? Who knew you could sell those? I throw them away all the time!!

    1. Morning Linda,
No, sorry, I’m not making the En Forreau dress for Felicity…I have something else in mind…
I hope you get your dress finished pretty soon. Then you can start another one! :o)

I wish I had found more things from the yard sales to share. I just wasn’t seeing much that I wanted to bring home…and then knowing I was going shopping the next day made me pretty tight with my spending.

I’m trying to figure out who might get the pretty corduroy for a dress… maybe Molly or Julie… I do plan on making some bobby socks to go with the shoes… for sure!

I wish I could find the lace like the blue in all different colors. It’s very soft and lightweight and I think it will work wonderful for a slip… I better give that a try this morning and see if I’m right… :o)
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. The brooch you found is lovely. It reminds me of the couple of German cloisonne brooch pins my mom has. They are so pretty. The hankie is very pretty also. I have found some hankies in antique stores before and my mom still has the ones she and my grandmother used in the 1930-1950’s.
Yes, saddle shoes are a must for a ’50’s girl. My mom made my daughter;s doll a poodle skirt outfit and a matching one for her for her birthday party one year. My daughter is very hopeful that Maryellen will bring back some 1950’s fashions for adults as well.
So glad to see Felicity is getting a new dress. I’m looking at patterns myself right now for something for my Felicity. I think she needs a brown print dress for autumn like her church dress she wears in the books.

    1. HI Laura,
I think the wooden jewelry the lady had may have been German. It just sort of had that look to it. Most of the pieces were too large but I think this one might work. It’s very pretty in person.
I knew I needed to shoes and I’m glad I got them. They are really cute on Molly’s feet. I think I have seen a few 50’s adults things lately. Maybe I’m just imagining they are 50’s, but they look a lot like what was worn then. Who knows… maybe Maryellen will start a new fashion trend… could be…
I hope you find just the right pattern for your Felicity dress. Sometimes the hardest and longest thing is finding that perfect look….
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. The pin looks right for Rebecca. I think it’s going to work beautifully.

The red fabric really brings that green and red fabric to life. Felicity is going to have a lovely debut dress. I’m really looking forward to it.

And I loved the card and “That will keep you busy.” You manage that quite well on your own, but when you do have a spare minute waiting for the dentist or something similar, you can count friends.

    1. HI Marilyn,
I hope I can use it for one of the girls for something…it’s really pretty…
I’ve been working on Felicity’s dress today and hope to move along pretty quickly with it.

      Let’s see… spare minutes…what are those?
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Can’t wait to see the dress. My choice of fabric. What’s the going rate for hankies in your area now? I used to pick them up for 25 cents, now at a thrift store a dollar or two depending on condition. They make such great accents on outfits.

    1. HI Joy,
So you were one of the ones who picked this fabric? I hope it turns out half as pretty as you hoped it might….
The going rate for hankies around here is about $2.00 – $3.00. I paid $6.50 for this one though…
      Thanks for your comments…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Awe…thanks for nice words about the card. It really fit your Birthday this year didn’t it?
LOVE that printed corduroy ..it would make a darling jumper….and the lace is awesome! Nice finds! Maybe if the pin was holding a Shawl together closer to the waist it wouldn’t look too big…it’s really colorful!
You will have a BUSY week!

    1. HI Kathie,
I did like that card, very much! Thank you again…
I liked the corduroy too. It’s just like new, so I don’t have any problems with using it. It would make a nice jumper…
The pin at the waist is a good idea…if it’s too big at the neck, I’ll try that…
Busy, Busy, Busy…that’s my middle name…right after Marie!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. So glad you received the goodies for Sara. Happy belated birthday! Mine was today and I got to see my brother who lives in Alaska. I have not seen him in years. It was lots of fun.

I enjoy all the creative things you make, the green fabric with red buds is so pleasant.

    Dolly hugs! Kathleen

    1. HI Kathleen,
I gave Sara the box of goodies and she was thrilled. She especially loved the white glasses. Her mom said she would take a picture of her and her doll together. I’ll put it on my blog when I get it. The box was very welcomed and appreciated.

I have made some headway with Felicity’s dress today… the hard part is done.. the bodice neckline and the sleeves and lace ruffles…

      Thanks so much Kathleen,
      Blessings, Jeanne
