Today was a pretty productive day, even though I didn’t get anything dolly-wise totally finished to show you. I tackled my alterations and got 2 shirts fixed for my hubby and a pair of his pants hemmed…or actually the hem let down. He’s a tall sort of fellow; 6’4″ and when I find pants that have a cuff on them, I can let that cuff out and extend the length sometimes 2 inches or more.
Then I had a real sense of accomplishment on the little glasses for Ten Ping. Let me tell you it was pretty tedious and involved a candle flame, several bobby pins, some gorilla super glue, and some strong reading glasses! I think they will work…
Next I wanted to do something in the “fun department”…that’s sewing for me! I had started a little dress for Ten Ping, but one sleeve was bigger around than the other and it was more trouble to take it apart than it was to start over.
So I decided to use a different pattern…one that is in the book I own, “Fashions for Small Dolls.”
It’s easier to use as the sleeve is set in flat and there isn’t a tiny little armscye to have to deal with.
I added the blue and white checked cuffs…
Folded them under…
It’s still a bit tricky because you have to stitch the under arm seam and the cuff all in one seam and then fold down the cuff 2 times to get it all concealed and then whip stitch it down for a hem. It was just about as big around as my index finger, so I just stitched it while it was on my finger.
I’m not finished yet, but I wanted to show you the progress I made today.
There still is plenty to be done on it to get it ready to sell, but I hope you’re liking it so far…
Please Note: My Civil War dress, “Second Glance” ends on EBay this evening!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh Jeanne, so adorable! I love the flowered material paired up with the tiny gingham! I can’t wait to see what it will look like finished, because it is so cute now! Did you make her shoes too?
Ten Ping will be ready for school with those adorable glasses! I can’t believe that I am seeing ads for back to school items already, and oh heavens, Hobby Lobby is already putting out fall and Christmas decorations!
As far as this weather—-I think Ten Ping would rather be just in her panties! Too hot!
HI Linda,
Thanks so much for the compliments on Ten Ping’s dress. It’s so fun to make little girl dresses for these tiny itty bitty dolls. She is a good sport about trying it on so many times.
Yes, I made her shoes too…out of ultrasuede. I did a post on it and will put the link to them in the post when I get this ready for a final reveal.
That’s what I thought… a perfect student look all the way…including the glasses.
Ten Ping’s not the only one who wants to strip down to practically nothing in this hot weather.
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
Jeanne, Ten Ping’s dress is adorable, I don’t know how you do such tiny work! I think the glasses look great, I want to hear all about that “tiny” project! Were the bobby pins a good choice?
Hi Cindy,
I think Ten Ping looks awfully sweet in this navy dress…it’s not Asian, but totally American, but I like it and she does too.
Thanks for the idea of using bobby pins for the legs, (or bows) as Charlotte says they are called. It was pretty time consuming but it worked good. I will tell you about it.
Love you, Wish you were going to be at Deb’s this week too… :o(
We’ll miss you, Me
Hi Jeanne,
What a cute dress! Ten Ping looks ADORABLE! Navy is a color she wears well. This will make a cute fall dress too.
I have the same book, but never made that dress style.
HI Cindy,
I just had a scrap of this navy fabric but with a doll Ten Pings size, it really doesn’t take much fabric at all to make her anything. I think it looks sort of Fallish too!
Oh you should try that pattern, it’s pretty neat the way it all works together. Once you get past the sleeve cuffs it’s pretty much smooth sailing. I did do a little modifying on it though. It wasn’t supposed to have the little band at the waist, but it makes it less bulky doing it this way and I didn’t want a tie belt.
Thanks Cindy,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a cute outfit for Ten Ping! The material choice is perfect. Her glasses are great. What a good job inventing the sides. Ten Ping looks very studious!
Doesn’t the new AMG doll come out in August? I wonder if it’s the 1st of the month or later on. I haven’t heard a word.
Have a great day, Jeanne.
HI Paula,
Thanks for your kind words about Ten Ping’s little dress. Doesn’t she look as sweet as can be? I’m actually going to save her glasses for a “Back to School” set but I wanted to show them to everyone.
Maryellen is supposed to come out on the 27th of August I THINK!…I’m not 100% positive, but that’s what I’ve heard. I wish they would publish some pictures of her ahead of time so we could make up our minds about her and save up some $$ just in case we love her.
AG is keeping a tight lid on the info about Maryellen. Some in the past have leaked out, but this time it’s pretty secretive.
Thanks Paula,
Blessings, Jeanne
“so far” I think it’s adorable! I love that pattern. I’ve used it since I used to sew for Riley Kish and used it for the yellow and blue check outfit for Ten Ping that I posted on eBay a couple weeks ago. Of all her patterns, I think this was her best idea. On eBay a seller who sews mainly for the 10″ Ann Estelle/Patsy dolls uses this pattern almost exclusively.
HI Jevne,
Riley is who I used the pattern for too. I thought that was it on the yellow and blue set that you did recently. I think it’s a very clever idea myself. I know which lady you mean on Ebay…and she does use it a lot!
Thanks so much Jevne,

Very cute! I always like checks with florals and those sleeve cuffs are really cute. You’ll have to fill us in on how you assembled the glasses. They look like they fit her very well.
Hi Carolyn,
Thanks so much for liking Ten Pings dress. I wish I could say I got it finished today, but I didn’t. I like the way it’s turning out so far…
The glasses… well, they are very time consuming and tedious… I’m not sure they are worth the time, but maybe I’ll get faster.
Thanks, Jeanne
Nice job on the glasses–looks like whatever you did worked well!!
The dress is cute–I like how you centered the floral nosegay on the bodice. I like to do things like that, too.
One trick I learned (you maybe already do this) is, when I make a tiny bodice where the sleeves are sewn in flat, I sew from the sleeve to the armscye, then from the bottom of the bodice up to the armscye, overlapping the stitches. That way, the sleeve end matches in a nice straight line across the seam.
HI Charlotte,
Thanks for the compliments on Ten Pings dress. I call it Fussy Cutting…do you?
As far as the dress sleeves go, I put a pin at one end and a pin at the other end to hold it in place… that would work the same way as you are talking about, right? It is a much easier sleeve to put in than the typical way, isn’t it?
Thanks Charlotte,
Blessings, Jeanne
