Something Pinky and something Peachy…

See I told you my hibiscus blossoms were as big as my dinner plates…

Ever since I finished my new headboard from parts of an antique piano (you can see that post HERE), I have been wanting to spruce up my bedroom a little bit and make it more charming and not so much “cutsie” like. The pink and white checked pillow cases didn’t do much for me, so I moved onto something different. I thought maybe if I made a pair of pillow shams that might be a good start. I looked through my stash of decorator fabrics and found a few with several yards on them so I laid them on my bed and thought I’d show you my possibilities.

My bedroom looks very pink/rose in my pictures; especially the ones where I used a flash, but it’s not that rosy, so I’m thinking these might go…

This is sort of what I was after, but I think it’s a bit too orangy to suit me…but I do like the print. So it’s a “maybe…”

This is a nice blue print, but I don’t think there is enough of the rosy tones to work in here…another “maybe…”

Here is another blue print but I think it’s too dark and pops too much in the room… a third “maybe…”

…and I found this pretty peach/light olive green and tan and think it might be the best choice. I need to look at them again in the daylight.
I put a piece of tan very sheer fabric behind the headboard and I like the softness it brings to the room and it would work for any of the prints.

I was all worried about my dust ruffle, but it’s no big deal…I’ll make something else. The pink’s in my room have always felt a little too feminine, but I think any of these prints might tone down the walls a bit and make it look more elegant. At least that’s my plan…
Some of the pictures are with the flash and others are just natural light…

Which one do you like?

I actually worked like crazy and got something made, but you’ll have to come back tomorrow to see it. (and I promise: a doll dress is next on my agenda!)

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Oh wow, Jeanne! That hibiscus is huge! Do you live on some tropical island or something?? LOL I have never seen them as large as that!

About your room, well, I understand fully that cameras don’t always show colors the way they are in real life! Neither do computers, for that matter. The flash totally messes up things, plus the lighting in the room, lamps, windows, etc., show different colors too. I couldn’t base my decision on your pictures for that very reason, but I do love the cabbage roses prints that are close together, rather than scattered with a lot of background showing. With a solid bedspread, you need a strong pattern for the pillow shams and bed skirt, don’t you think? Well, it’s your bedroom, and you are the one living there, so whatever you pick will be wonderful, I’m sure!

I like the way the sheer curtain softens the light, and think a swag like you have there would be really pretty and highlight the bed. Maybe one that is draped over a pretty curtain rod?

    1. HI Linda,
I know they are huge, aren’t they? It’s amazing when several blooms are blooming at the same time. It is really a stunning plant and was told it was old when we bought our house. We’ve moved lots of plants around and removed lots others, but this is one we’ve never touched…and I don’t plan on bothering it.

I’m wanting to get it all figured out, but I need help. I’m sure my sister can help….long distance though… not quite the same as being here with me. Oh well, I’ll get it somehow.
I know it’s hard to show something like this with lighting all off and everything, but I had to anyway… I’ll try to get it right when I take my final pictures.
Thanks Linda, I appreciate your comments…
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. HI Jevne,
That blue print goes wonderfully in my living room now that I have that blue cabinet in there…so we’ll have to see…
      Thanks for your opinion…

I am all for color !! I love to walk into a room and see pops of color all over.
That’s where I tend to come from in decorating my house.
I agree with Linda Doyle’s ideas. It is your room so go with what your nature eye falls to. Which one of those floral prints do you love the most? Go with that and make the remainder of the room blend with it. Hey, if you have to repaint to make it all work that is a real easy fix {so said the RE agent as he was trying to convince the prospective buyers to buy} !!!

    1. Hi Jeannie,
You and my sister, Cindy, would get along great… She’s always saying, “if you don’t like it, just paint it a different color… paint’s cheap, compared to any other kind of decorating.”
I like pops of color too, I just want to make sure I “pick the right pop!”

I hope it turns out okay when I’m all done…with what I see in my mind…
      Thanks Jeannie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. I like the 4th choice with saige colored curtains and bedskirt. I think it would tone down the walls and the saige is not only an easy color to live with, but would change the entire feel of the room. I personally have your 1st choice in my master bedroom, with saige carpet and tan walls. In the summer I use a saige bedspread with the “red” valence and “red” throw pillows.

    1. HI Debi,
Well….you’ll have to check tomorrow and see which one I picked!
That’s funny that you have the same fabric in your bedroom as one I was showing. I think
anyone of them would have worked, but one just spoke more to me than the others.
It is nice with pillow shams with different colors in them, how you can change things up with something as simple as throw pillows.
      Thanks Debi,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Hi Jeanne, I have been out of town a few days, my daughter’s wedding was yesterday, July 4, so I haven’t had the chance to comment on your headboard. It is my favorite project of yours that is not sewing. That is such a pretty headboard and I love the color of your walls. I think I like the fabric in the last photo, but I am sure it will be lovely which ever you choose.

    1. Thank you Regina,
I hope you are all rested up from the wedding festivities. I hope it was just what your daughter hoped it would be…and more!
I’m glad you liked this “non’sewing” post and you’ll have to check in tomorrow to see which one I picked!!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. HI Jeanne,
You could make any of them work because you have such a knack but I do like the last one just because it goes so well with the walls and the drapes. Can’t wait to see what you decide!

    1. Thanks Kathie,
I’m not so sure I have such a knack at this decorating stuff, but it’s fun to at least give it a try.
      You’ll find out tomorrow!
Thanks a lot for your comments, Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. The headboard looks great! I would have never guessed it was part of a piano if you hadn’t said so. I like the light fabric with the blue print. Maybe you could find a blue and terra cotta stripe for the bed skirt. Whatever you choose will look fabulous. You have a good eye and always make everything look nice.

    1. HI Carolyn,
Thanks for your vote of confidence in what I’m doing… whether it’s doll clothes or pillow shams. I sure do have fun whatever I’m doing.
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Hello Jeanne. Hope you had a great holiday weekend. We had perfect weather all weekend long here. Yay! It’s about time!

Your hibiscus blossoms are amazing! I really cannot imagine a blossom that large even though you held up a dinner plate to show us. It doesn’t seem possible. I can see why you don’t want to risk moving it anywhere else, those blossoms are gorgeous.

I am sure you made the perfect choice for your updated bedroom fabric. The headboard is beautiful and it made me happy to see that a couple of parts from that poor piano got to live on in a new life. I love how it turned out; you are so talented! Can’t wait to see more…

    1. HI Cindy,
We had wonderful weather too, and enjoyed ourselves very much. I’m glad YOU had nice weather…you certainly are long overdue!

Yes, isn’t that hibiscus amazing? I just love it when it’s in bloom. There are hundreds of blooms on it…I’ll have to take another picture of it when more are blooming all at once.

Every time I walk past my bedroom I take a sneak peek at the headboard. I just love how it turned out and I’m like you, so happy to have saved a few parts from it. I’m debating about sending a picture of it to the people who donated it. But since it got wet, I’m not sure how they’d feel… but I don’t think they really cared about it anyway.

The big reveal will be tomorrow…so check in and see if you guessed it right in your mind at least.

I’m off to my sewing room to see what kind of trouble I can get into.
      Thanks Cindy,
      Blessings to you, Jeanne
