I had to clean house yesterday because I’m hosting a bridal shower this evening outside in my gazebo…(if the Cicada’s will leave us alone and the rain stays away.) I had to do a simple post because there has been no time for sewing, so I thought I might share with you my few yard sale finds…
[Oh, I told you already it was a Ginormous Yard Sale and I meant it… Last years yard sale brought in $2500, but this one blew that total out of the water… $4390! We have an 8 person Missions team leaving for Japan this morning. Part of the money went to help with their trip.]
My first and only big find was this cabinet/hutch. I’m going to paint it when my older sister comes for a visit in a few weeks. She wanted to do a “project” with me, and believe me, this will be a project! My hubby is going to put the glass and grids back on the one side where they are missing. They are in the cabinet but have fallen out. I’m still debating about the color… and I’m not even sure where I’ll use it, but somewhere… I loved it the moment I saw it.
Next up are a few sewing related finds…a bright hot pink sheer fabric from India, and a scrap of corduroy with dancing bears on it…some vintage navy and white dotted Swiss fabric and some Raggedy Ann that I plan on giving to Sara.
Some yarn for my skinny scarves this Fall, a few “in the package” Ty Beanie toys for my Dolly Toy Box, a spray of pretty yellow flocked flowers, some tubes of beads…
Four Mother of Pearl pins…that I’m hoping will work as brooches for Civil War dresses. They came from a Chinese lady in our church who died, and were in a bag from China, so I don’t know much about them, except that they are very pretty!
This Amazing Designs CD was in the bottom of the fabric bag. If anyone could use it, let me know and I’ll send it to you…
Almost four yards of Ultra Suede fabric in a pretty pale seafoam green like color…
Plus a few things for myself… these 4 pairs of earrings….
…some foot creams… I could really use those!!!
…and right when we were packing things up, my dear hubby found a very dirty comforter on the ground covered with mud and grass. He said,
“Honey, this will probably wash up nicely…it’s a down comforter…let’s take it home…”
So he washed it and sure enough, it’s pretty nice…but many of the down feathers are missing, so I may have to take it apart and just put a layer of batting in it. You can’t see it, but there is a nice design on the white… Gotta love that guy!!!
I managed to get my newest Civil War dress scheduled on Ebay so you can find it tonight…I’ll add the picture of it to the side bar as soon as it becomes live. Sorry about the delay…but I hope you think it was worth the wait.
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Love all your goodies! Those mother of pearl pieces are so beautiful. I could use the embroidery disc if that’s alright. I got my embroidery machine last year, and have just been getting a few files here and there off the internet. 🙂
Hi Christine,
I will send you an email and you can send me your address. Glad you can use it. It had a seal on it but I opened it up to make sure it was okay. It looks to be in excellent shape.
Yes, those pins are very nice. Thanks Christine,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh Thank you!! It’s greatly appreciated. 🙂
Lovely treasurers. You will find all kinds of uses…and 4 yards of that Ultrasuede?? WOW
If it is the real Ultrasuede it looks like it is going for 25.00 /yd +
I have one of those carved Mother of pearl things too…They are so pretty. Can’t wait to see the cupboard all painted…what a great piece!
HI Kathie,
Yes, it is the real deal on the Ultrasuede… too bad it’s sort of an off color. If it had been black or navy blue that would have been even better, but I’m not complaining!
I can’t wait to paint my cabinet… I might use it in my sewing room. It would be nice to have my dolls behind glass and not have to keep their hair covered to keep the dust off.
Thanks Kathie,
Blessings, Jeanne
At first I thought you made a side trip to JoAnns. What a great collection and reward for your long hours of work. The Chinese pieces are lovely and if used on doll clothes, the outfits will be very special. More ultra suede for doll shoes! Hope for good, calm weather for you tonight.
HI Jan,
It was fun to pick up a few little extras at the yard sale. I’m anxious to see what I can do with those pins and I certainly hope they work…
Yes, I’m hoping for dry weather long enough today that my hubby can get the grass mowed!
Thanks Jan,
Blessings, Jeanne
Not sure where my post went, I think I may have forgotten to click onto Post Comment! Oh well, it was so much fun to see what you got at the yard sale! Goodness, the hutch alone would have thrilled me! That might be nice for keeping your dolls in , like you mentioned. Since your dolls aren’t dressed, maybe some colorful wallpaper lined on the back would dress it up.
Such pretty earrings, Jeanne, and the beautiful pearl pins! Gosh, it is fun to see what your picked out, and that foot cream—-just what I need!
It has been raining here non-stop all morning, but wait–I see a blazing round ball in the sky, can’t figure out what it is, but I wish it would stay and dry things off! I keep seeing the weather report and they show Carbondale getting rained on too, but not as bad as here. Good luck with your shower, and not the wet kind!!!!
HI Linda,
From the looks of our weather report… it’s probably going to be an “inside Shower” since it’s a 67% chance of rain this afternoon. My poor hubby spent an hour and a half cleaning off the gazebo and now he’s out mowing the wet grass hoping it won’t look too bad.
My sister thinks the hutch should be in my living room, but it would probably be better served in my sewing room…like you said, for my dolls, and yes, with a lighter background to show things off…
Thanks Linda,
blessings, Jeanne
Your dress is beautiful, Jeanne. I looked for it last night (advanced search) but, of course, didn’t find it. The belt and the hat really make the outfit!
You really found good ‘stuff’ at the yard sale, would love to have that hutch! An ideas for four yards of ultra-suede? I’m glad your church did so well money-wise in spite of the rain.
HI Jevne,
Thanks so much for your kind words about Rebecca’s dress. The bridal shower in my gazebo was decorated in lavender and white and I was thinking how pretty Rebecca would have looked as the “centerpiece!”
I do like what I came home with…not too much…not too little!
We were thrilled with the results of the yard sale…who wouldn’t be?
Thanks Jevne,
Blessings, Jeanne
Hi, you made some really good finds at the yard sale! Is the hutch antique? You might have someone give you an opinion on that–you know they say not to do anything if they are old. If not–have fun with it. You could paint the inside a light color to show off the dolls. Or, you could put a mirror in the back. I have one that looks similar to that one–it isn’t old. It even has a light in it. I have a lot of small dolls in it.
I also love the chinese pins–or are they buttons. It looks like someone did a lot of work on them.
HI Diana,
I don’t think the hutch is old. It seems to be pine so I’m planning on painting it and I do want to put something light on the inside so I can showcase whatever it is I end up putting in it.
They are pins with a pin clasp on the back. They are heavy and feel like glass when you tap then on your teeth. I just love them and hope they’ll work for brooches…
Thanks so much Diana,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, Jeanne, what wonderful treasures you found! I am seriously coveting those mother-of-pearl pins, particularly the single rose (top left) and the musical one. Can’t wait to see what you will do with them!! (And if you decide to sell one or two, I’m sure you’ll find willing buyers!! hint hint….)
Do you think you might be able to dye the Ultra-Suede? You could cut a 10″ square and try it, perhaps. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard that Ultra-Suede could be dyed or not.
I think I have some of that corduroy with the dancing bears on it!! So cute!!
