I know you all will be just as excited as I am….I GOT THE DRESS FINISHED!!! Yes, the lavender one! It took me most of the day, and well into the evening but it’s done…and it looks beautiful on Rebecca! Her green eyes pick up the green in the dress and the lavender color is so pretty against her skin. I hope you’ll agree.
If you click on any picture it will enlarge.
It has lots of details that make it special: The bodice is self lined and closes in back with pretty little white glass buttons covering hidden snaps.
Set in sleeves come just past her elbows and have a white batiste eyelet ruffle. A bit of sparkle accents the elbows too.
Okay, I’ve given you a few of the details..let’s see if you can find the rest…
Jevne, one of my subscribers, asked if I made the 2 tiered skirt with 2 layers fabric where the bodice joins the skirt. If you use 2 layers gathered up it can be quite bulky around the waist, so I added a little section to the top of the underskirt from a very thin white fabric. It wasn’t as wide as the underskirt…maybe 18″ long instead of the width of the fabric the underskirt is made from. It was like gathering a waistband to a skirt and then sewing the top of the waistband to the bodice. It cut down on the bulk at the waist considerably.
Well, do you like it?
I’m helping with a GINORMOUS Yard Sale for my church today, and then the yard sale is Friday and Saturday, so I might not get to your comments until later today. I’m also hoping to get away long enough to come home and get it listed on Ebay, but no promises…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
That dress turned out beautifully, Jeanne! I love the special touches of the beading on the sleeves, and the back—just breathtaking with the waterfall ribbon, and the trim in Rebecca’s hair to match the hat! The necklace finishes off the look too, so pretty! A big straw hat would look good too, or she could just use a lacey parasol to keep off the sun’s rays.
Good luck with your church’s yard sale! Better keep hydrated on this brutally hot day! In the 90’s here and probably the same for you.
HI Linda,
Thanks so much for your comments on the lavender dress. I’m going to steal your wording about the “waterfall” ribbon on the back. I like that… I do have some big wide brimmed straw hats, but I think I’ll save them for the next dress…
This yard sale has to be the biggest we’ve ever had… there is SO much stuff that we put out. It actually starts Friday, but there is no way we can wait till the day of the sale to get it out… I think we made $2500 last year for Missions at it…
I look like a lobster…my hubby and I were there from 9am and were the last ones to leave…at 6:45 this evening. That shower felt SO SO good! 2 more days and we’ll be done for this year…YAY!
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
I love everything about this entire ensemble! Of course, the lavender fabric gives an excellent starting place to make this dress so very feminine and summery. Gathered tiers on a skirt have a graceful look as she floats across the lawn for a late evening stroll with her beau. She properly wears her hat that is so perfectly embellished and accented with a matching wrap for her hair. Your Rebecca has made her a sweet necklace to perfectly match this dress. I love that you have added a proper petticoat with boning. I noticed the lavender accent. I will assume she is one of Scarlett’s friends visiting Tara for a few days of fun and picnics. Certainly she is properly escorted on her evening strolls. We would not want any improper gossiping amongst Aunt Pitty Pat and India Wilkes !
HI Jeannie,
Thanks so much for your sweet comments! I’m with you… I think this dress screams of femininity and summertime! I like your little stories! Thanks!

Love it!!
Thanks so much Christine… sweet and to the point!

Well Jeanne, the lavender dress and accessories are so beautiful. Stunning is more the word. You never cease to amaze me with your creativity!
I wish you and the other volunteers a great day at the church’s yard sale. How fun. Stay cool and enjoy yourself.
Blessings!
Hi Paula,
I’m glad you like the Lavender dress…thank you for calling it stunning!
Today was just “set up” day because there is SO much stuff, so the sale really starts tomorrow… You can’t imagine how much stuff we have…it gets donated all year long and then at the last week, we have lots of new donations come in. Last year we made $2500! It’s a GREAT yard sale! Wanna come?
Blessings, Jeanne
Lovely creation! Did you make the little ribbon thingys on the hat and around the bun? They match so perfectly. Love all of the details.
HI Joy,
Welcome to my blog! Thanks for your comments…
No, I didn’t make the trim around her bun and across the hat. I think I got it at Hobby Lobby but it was a few years ago and I don’t think they carry it anymore. It matched the dress perfectly!
Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
Jeanne, I think this is one of my favorites of outfits you’ve done. Everything about it is perfection. Just love the hat…… Lynne
Thanks so much Lynne,
I’m glad you like the Lavender dress! That makes my day! (or evening!)
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh Jeanne, I think Rebecca’s dress may be one of the prettiest outfits I’ve seen you do. All the details are exquisite. I just love those Civil War bonnets. Such gorgeous clothes back then.
So, you decided on Remy for your new puppy. He is so cute, but true that new puppies get into things and chew, chew, chew.
How I wish I hadn’t let my daughter sell her PC Addy years before I decided I could have the dolls, too. At least she gave me her mint condition samantha and all her stuff, but I wish I had Addy to be the counterpart for the custom I am slowing putting money aside for. The problem is I want gray eyes on a Josefina mold and AG hasn’t ever made that.
Thank you Laura,
I’m glad you like this dress and yes, I have to agree with you, the Civil War dresses I think were the prettiest of all the fashions in years past!
Yes, we decided on Remy, but we seem to be stuck on puppy and my hubby keeps slipping and calling him Scruff!
I hope you get the doll of your dreams soon! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Josefina mold with gray eyes either… I hope you find one!
Blessings, Jeanne
Gorgeous, Jeanne! The green paired with this print is so fresh; I can smell the flowers in the garden. You inspired me to make something in lavender/lilac. Hope Remy is being a better boy today.
HI Cindy,
Thanks so much for liking the dress… I am glad you did a lavender dress too!
We put the crate in the kitchen and are trying to be better… but today we were gone all day except when I ran home to check on him at noon. He was a good boy and didn’t have any accidents in the kitchen. We left his crate open so he could get water, but we put his bed in it… Thanks!
Blessings, Jeanne
That turned out so pretty! Love the hat and the trims on it and the way the ribbon falls from the Bow in the back…is that what Linda called Waterfall Ribbon? She just so proud…I swear you can see I tin their faces!
Have fun at the Sale!
HI Kathie,
I think Linda was just calling it a waterfall look. I do that with my fingers…sort of crimp it like you do a pie crust between your fingers…
I lost 2 pounds in the heat today… helping set up the yard sale. It was incredibly hot! 94 degrees is too hot to be working out in it… no wonder I look like a lobster. My face is burned really badly and just stings… I was too busy to put on sunscreen…DUMB, DUMB, DUMB!
Thanks Kathie,
Blessings, Jeanne
