You just never know what might happen when you go out of state for 5 days! In case you’ve been missing in action, I left last Thursday to head to Pennsylvania for my niece’s wedding. It was WONDERFUL and I’ll share some pictures with you as soon as my brother gets them loaded from his camera and sent to me. Here’s one picture to hold you over till I get his…
In the meantime, our daughter, Rebecca has been on a mission… to find her dad a new puppy for Father’s Day, since he lost his best friend, Scruffy, about 2 1/2 months ago. She thought it was time for him to have a new buddy and has been almost obsessed with finding one. Once she mentioned it to him, he acted like he might be open to the idea. That was all that it took for her. She’s spent HOURS and HOURS scouring the internet, looking for breeders in our area, kennels, individuals selling Schnauzers, Craigslist, the newspaper…etc! I’m not sure I’ve ever seen her so diligent at a project!!!
Well, long story short…she found one! It was about 3 hours away and while I was gone she and her dad went to check the little guy out. My hubby has had 3 Schnauzers so it only made sense that his next one would be the same. (No variety here!) I wasn’t there, but apparently it must have been love at first sight. There were actually 2 male dogs but he said this one had the cutest face. Rebecca took my Baby Names book with her and they discussed names all the way there. Right now they are thinking Reuben…because my hubby likes what it means… “Behold, a son!” But who says, “This is my dog, Reuben, his name means “Behold, a son” when you’re talking to someone? Remy (short for Remmington) and Indy are also in the mix. (If you think of something…let us know…we’d LOVE some help with names!)
I can’t seem to get a good picture of him for some reason. He’s MUCH MUCH cuter in person than he is in my pictures. I was a little worried when I was in PA. Rebecca sent me a few pictures of him and I just wasn’t sure…he looked a little strange to me,
but when I got home this afternoon and saw him for the first time in person, he just melted my heart…immediately!
He’s 9 weeks old and QUITE active! I took 98 pictures and had to delete 64 of them because they were blurry or only captured part of what I was hoping to get. He’s like a young little kitten…darting around grabbing things…chewing things and chasing anything that moves.
He finally settled down after about an hour of being rambunctious!
He’s a salt and pepper Schnauzer, which means he’ll turn that silvery color that many of them are, and what Scruff was. It’s hard to tell from my pictures but he’s a tiny little thing…weighing only 6 pounds, and he’s about 13″ long. He’s a miniature Schnauzer, so he won’t get very big…maybe 15-18 pounds. In person, he looks almost black and is just the sweetest little guy!
Speaking of “guys” mine is quite thrilled with his new pal. I can’t believe when I asked him if I could take a few pictures of the puppy on his lap, he let me! He had just gotten home from hauling furniture all day and I thought this will never happen, but it did…
All is well in my house!
Thank you all so much for your kind comments while I was gone. I wasn’t able to answer you all back, but I read every one of them! You blessed me beyond anything I could imagine with your kind comments. I may try to find time to answer them all… so check back in a few days if your wrote something. I’ll get back to my sewing machine as soon as I can.
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
What an ADORABLE picture of the girls twirling at the wedding, Jeanne! That was genius to include the blue tulle slips underneath! They both looked so happy!
Well, before reading your blog, your title mentioned “a Happy Hubby” got me thinking that he was so happy to have you back, but now I see it means something else! LOL That is an adorable puppy if I must say so myself! I seem to be using the word “adorable” pretty often today!! What a special bond those two playing and sleeping on the couch will have! I think it’s happening already! I don’t know much about schnauzers, but do they bark much? He seems like a little ball of fur and has such a cute little face! Hopefully, by Christmastime he will have outgrown his puppyhood and will leave your tree and decorations alone! Until then, have fun with the little guy, and I can’t wait to see more pics of the wedding! So glad to have you back!
Hi Linda,
Thanks so much for your comments! Hannah and Nora had an absolute blast! My sister sent me a video of them twirling and I’d love to put it on here but I can’t figure how to do it. I’ll get Kristoffer on it!
Yes, my hubby is very happy now! He can’t get enough of the little guy. We’re having the hardest time with a name…every time someone says a name someone else says no, I went to school with someone named that or it’s too many syllables or someone we know already has that name taken…we’ll get it figured out…
Yes, Linda, Schnauzers do bark….that was my beef with Scruffy. He wouldn’t stop barking when someone came over. It was pretty annoying. We got Scruffy from a kennel when he was 5 months old. He was mixed in a pen with some little white yappy dogs…I think he just thought that was what dogs did! We are hoping to train this dog to be friendly with people!
Thanks Linda
Blessings, Jeanne
Too darn Cute !!!!!! I can see why your hubby is a happy camper with that sweet little guy in residence. I can see the male puppy is already exhibiting his male-ness by flopping on the couch for a good snooze. Out for the count!
Now the name has to be something very special as this little doggy is trying to follow is some rather important paw-steps. Scruff has an important history in your family so the new guy has an awful lot to prove. He needs to show his own boldness shall we say.
So good luck with the name. Something will stick and be totally appropriate.
Hi Jeannie,
I hope we come up with something soon…this is what happened to our female Schnauzer….we just kept trying to find the perfect name and calling her Puppy all the while. Din the end, Puppy was her name. On her aka papers we sent in her name as Ellie Mae, but we never called her that.
Thanks Jeannie,
Blessings, Jeanne
Aww, those girls looked so sweet. Can’t wait to see more. Glad to see your hubby is happy with his new guy. I like the name Remy for him. Sorta fits. 🙂 He is a sweet looking puppy and the picture with your hubby and him looking at each other is just precious. 🙂
HI Christine,
The flower girls were sweet and they did a really nice job! Once they got to the barn they really let go and had a super time dancing and twirling!
Our search for names continues… I like Remy too… we’ll see. My hubby just got home and Rebecca was out walking the puppy. When George called “Reuben” it just sounded kind of funny to me… not sure why, but it did!
Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
Love the dresses on the girls and the new puppy looks like he has already captured everyone’s heart. He is sure one lucky little guy to be adopted into such a loving home.
God Bless
Marsha
Thank you Marsha,
The puppy HAS captured our hearts… my hubby’s especially!
Blessings, Jeanne
Awww!!! A new puppy! I LOVE puppies!!! Getting a new puppy is more exciting than getting 100 new dolls, isn’t it? Now I really wished you lived next door so I could come over and meet your new baby. I am so happy for you both!
The flower girls look like they are having so much fun twirling in their beautiful dresses. I love the barn; it looks so cozy.
Welcome back home.
HI Cindy,
Yes, there’s not much sweeter than a new puppy! If you lived closer, you would definitely be invited in!
The barn was absolutely breathtaking! I bet every bride to be that visits this place, dreams of having her wedding there. They are booked a year or so in advance!
Thanks Cindy,
Blessings, Jeanne
It’s so exciting about the new puppy!!! He is so cute and so sweet looking. It will be neat to hear about him as he settles into his new home. He is just so precious as he naps. I wonder what toy (s) he will attach himself too.
I am happy for all of you. He is one more doggie who has found a home…and a wonderful family!!!
The little girls look so cute twirling in their pretty dresses. Love the blue shoes too. Glad to hear you had a great time.
Blessings!
HI Paula,
He’s so full of energy it’s hard to do anything but watch him. We need to name him “Mischief!” That suits him perfectly!
Thanks for your kind comments about the girls dresses. More to come soon!
Blessings, Jeanne
P.S. What a wonderful daughter to be so dedicated to this mission and her dad!!!!
HI Paula,
Yes… today she came home with “another” new toy for him…
Blessings, Jeanne
I’m so happy for your hubby and his new puppy. The puppy is just adorable! Your little nieces look adorable also in their dresses you made them..love the photo! Glad you are back home..enjoy the new little guy. How about the name Scout?
Hi Regina,
Thanks so much for your comments. I’ve added Scout to the list of names to consider!
He’s a really fun little guy and has turned my house into a disaster with all the stuff he’s pulled out…toys, chew toys, socks, balls, and he loves to grab and run with the pee pads!
Blessings, Jeanne
Hi Jeanne,
Glad you’re safely back from your trip. The little flower girl dresses were certainly a hit. I hope that you had a wonderful time.
How sweet of Rebecca to search and search for a new friend for the family. Your new puppy is SOOO cute. A friend of ours has Schnauzers as well. They always have two so since they are at work during the day they won’t be lonely. Your husband already looks attached to his new friend. We have had two Yorkies and even though they had different personalities and came from completely different breeders I saw a bit of Phoebe Joy our first in Nellie Rose our second. I would love another someday. You do get attached to one breed if you choose them, but our “driveway foundling” Collie/Samoyed/Shepherd mix was THE best dog ever. Sometimes God has them find you instead. That is the reason we now have two kitties ( porch and yard kittens).
Enjoy your new furball and all the crazy puppy antics.. Better get him a Nylabone for those baby teeth. My one kitchen cabinet bottom still bears the bears the marks of puppy teeth.
God’s blessings on your day.:-)
HI Laura,
Yes, these special little pups can steal your heart and break it when they leave! Our little guy will probably leave some kind of mark on something we have too. He likes to run under the table for balls but he gets easily distracted and decides to take a break and chew on the chair legs…eek! Rebecca got him some kind of bone for new puppies, maybe it’s a Nylabone…
Thanks Laura,
Blessings, Jeanne
AWE…which is cuter…the little girls twirling or the new puppy?? Both are adorable.. I know the girls will always remember those dresses…my sister an I had look alike dresses for a wedding at about that age and I remember it like it was yesterday!
I agree with your hubby ..he does have a really cute face and that’s such a nice size for an indoor dog too! They do bark a bit but after all that’s the internal warning system that’s part of their nature.
Have fun with him!
HI Kathie,
Thanks so much for your kind comments on the girls dresses. It was fun to see them having such a good time twirling in them!
Schnauzers are known to be watch dogs…I just want the barking to stop after a few barks letting us know someone is here…
We already are having fun…not getting much done, but having fun!
Blessings, Jeanne
Welcome, home, Jeanne, we are so glad you are back! The little girls look lovely in their dresses…I notice the little one decided she had worn shoes long enough!
Your hubby’s new puppy is priceless….what’s cuter that a puppy? I hope he came potty trained (9weeks old- right!) or that you don’t have to be in charge of that!
HI Jevne,
Thanks for the welcome back home greeting! It’s good to be home!
The shoes came off pretty quickly when they got on the floor and found out it was slick…
The puppy didn’t come potty trained, but he hasn’t had an accident in the house yet today! Of course, that’s all I’ve been doing is watching him…
Blessings, Jeanne
The happiest post so far that you have written. The darling girls in their dresses and then Remy, a great name, in your husband’s lap. Today you truly spread the joy in your family.
Between the puppy and the wedding, we’ll be treated to great photos for a long time.
HI Jan,
Thanks so much for your sweet words!
We haven’t decided yet on Remy, but that’s what Rebecca likes….short for Remmington. My hubby wanted something “noble” and so far that’s the only “noble” name on our list. We wanted to have a name nailed down by tonight, but so far…we’ve still got nothing…
Thanks Jan,
Blessings, Jeanne
Hi Jeanne, glad you made it back safe and sound. It looks like the dresses turned out quite nice! I’ll be waiting to see some pictures of them when the girls aren’t in movement. Speaking of movement, the new puppy is just the prettiest little thing. Looks like your hubby found a new friend!
HI Carolyn,
I know there are some “still” pictures of the girls coming from my brother. That way you all will be able to see them better.
My hubby is pretty happy right now! The puppy is pretty happy too!
Blessings, Jeanne
Jeanne, so glad you got home safe and sound, and had a good time. The picture of the girls is just precious!! They look wonderful in their lovely dresses.
Congrats on the new “baby” in your house!! Names, huh?! Well, when we were teens (and beyond)my brother had a dog named Toby; occasionally mom would call him Tobias. Then after he got married and took Toby with him, *I* got a dog who I named Sambo. We also called him Sam, Sammy, or Sammy-bo. He really Was my dog, but I moved into an apt. so Sammy stayed with mom and dad, and when I was going to get married, my dad decided they should keep Sammy themselves and I could get myself another dog! This is the same man who said that Of. Course. we were not going to keep Sammy when I brought him home!! LOL
My husband and I have had two dogs, Molly and Rex. Molly was a little dachshund mix, and I think she was the boss over the much larger Rex, who was a shepherd-husky mix. He was a love, though, and would have been content to be petted until your arm dropped off or he died, whichever came first! LOL He was also a good watchdog when we weren’t home!
For your new puppy, since you refer to him as your husband’s new pal, it struck me that “Pal” might be a good name for him, but it’s not very regal. For some reason, the name “Skipper” or “Skippy” popped into my head when I saw him. Again, not very regal but maybe it would fit his personality.
Will be waiting to hear what you all come up with!!
Charlotte
HI Charlotte,
Sorry, I guess my comments back to you didn’t take the first time, so I’ll try again! It sounds like your dad turned out the be your dogs best friend! What a heartwarming story. ..
Well, thanks for your suggestions, but I think we’ve decided on Remy…short for Remmington. I think he needs to be called Lazybones… whenever I take him outside he just flops on the grass and doesn’t want to walk but just explore what’s under his nose at the moment. I pick him up and move him a few feet away and he flops down again like a ragdoll! He’s a cutie though…so I guess I’ll overlook his laziness for now.
Thanks for sharing Charlotte,
Blessings, Jeanne
Hmmm… Prince? Duke? Jester? Lol. I’ve asked Bob to hurry up and download those wedding pictures for us all. Hopefully he will find some time this weekend 🙂 I’ve been trying to explain the elaborate gardens to my family, but having pictures would make things easier. Love the pictures of the new puppy! So glad to see that everyone is settling in well 🙂 Love n hugs! Jen
HI Jennifer,
Well, I love your name suggestions, but I think we’ve settled on Remy (short for Remmington).
I got some pictures from Amy and I’m doing my post tomorrow with some of them. I can’t wait to see Bob’s pictures. I want to show those lovely gardens on my blog.
I saw you hit 10,000 steps the other night! Congrats! I just got your email from Deb this evening, so I’ll be sending you a challenge! I hit my 10,000 about 7pm tonight!
Thanks so much Jennifer!
Blessings and love, Jeanne
