Something FROM Kathie:
I love it when I get a letter or a package in the mail from one of my subscribers! Today I got something…from Kathie. Her card was just too cute so I have to share it with you all…
If you click on any picture, it will enlarge.
She saw my post about making little Ten Ping shoes, so she sent me some Ultrasuede scraps to use for them. I’m really looking forward to seeing what I can come up with…
Something FROM Goodwill:
I was very blessed to have found this reddish/coral colored Ultrasuede dress at Goodwill Friday! It’s handmade in about a size 4, so there is lots of fabric in it to cut up and practice making tiny shoes. I figure there’s enough fabric to make 100 pairs of shoe! Surely I’ll have them perfected by then!! Then I can cut into Kathie’s Ultrasuede pieces with confidence!
I’ve never seen a full dress made out of it before and it was only $4.50!!! Score! Thank you again Kathie! The Ultrasuede you sent me is wonderful and so is the sweet silk hankie.
Something FOR Linda:
I showed some pictures of some Silk Ribbon embroidery projects I’ve done and just showed the middle section of a dress…
Linda, another subscriber, said she would like to see the rest of it… so here are a few more pictures of it on Felicity. I called it White Ruffles…guess why?
Hope you liked it Linda!
Something FOR Ten Ping:
I’m not completely finished with Ten Ping’s outfit, but I’m going to go ahead and show you what I have gotten done so far. I’m hoping my tomorrow goes the way I want it to and I can get it finished. Don’t you think she looks sweet?
You’ll have to come back tomorrow and see the final “reveal!” (hopefully!)
I haven’t forgotten about the Giveaway I mentioned a little while back. I have a bridesmaid’s dress I have to alter for a friend and then in 10 days I’m leaving for my niece’s wedding in PA. I’ll have to do the Giveaway when I get back…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Thank you Jeanne, for showing the beautiful dress for Felicity! It is so pretty and delicate, and just says “summer”! Perfect for a hot afternoon tea party! I, for one, am glad that I do NOT live in those days with all the heavy corsets, petticoats and long dresses! Yesterday was very hot and humid here!
Ten Ping’s outfit is just darling and I can’t wait to see the finished outfit! That’s one spoiled little doll!
You have such nice and generous subscribers! I’m sure you will find something to do with those ultrasuede scraps!
HI Linda,
You are welcome…thank you for asking about it! Yesterday it was hot and humid here too… I can’t imagine how they managed to keep their sanity in hot weather with all their undergarments on.
My sister was at a Civil War Re-enactment in her hometown of Gettysburg PA a few years ago. She was dressed up in one of the those tight corseted dresses and she got hot and passed out… Maybe it was a common thing to do in those super form fitting dresses! Not for me…I’m too hot natured anyway!
I stayed up and finished Ten Ping’s dress set, so hopefully I’ll get it listed on Ebay for this evening. I’m looking for the “perfect” accessory to go with it!
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
Hi Jeanne,
What a darling little dress you’ve started on Ten Ping! Again, your artistic design is perfect. I think Ten Ping is trying to hide a little smile!
Boy, the wedding is coming up fast. I hope you get some pictures of the little girls in their sweet dresses.
The handkerchief is very unique and lovely and delicate looking – how sweet to receive. Have a blessed day, Jeanne.
Hi Paula,
Well, if you see a smile, it’s news to me… I haven’t coaxed one out of her yet…not even the slightest. Maybe I need to let her have a day in the Dolly Toy Box!
My sister sent me a video of Hannah twirling in her dress…already!!!
Yes, the hankie is very nice…got to figure out something special for it.
Thanks so much Paula,
Blessings, Jeanne
I absolutely love the white dress for Felicity. She is my favorite Pleasant Company doll and when I see the outfits people make for her on eBay and AGPT I keep thinking of things she could have. I wonder if AG will ever bring her back like Samantha. Missed your post yesterday, but wanted to comment on Elizabeth’s “Simply White dress as just so beautiful. that and the Simply Blue one you made were the first of your dress I ever saw.
My mom has her handkerchiefs from the 1940’s-50’s and I think they are so pretty. I like when I find them at antique stores. Wished I hadn’t missed all the old-fashioned things- hats, gloves, parasols etc. way before my time. As a teen of the 1980’s I remember the Gunny Sax dresses.
Have you see the new 1950’s Maryellen doll yet? Soon you’ll have a new decade to sew for. The ’50’s are one of my daughter’s favorites. Maybe some of those feminine styles will see a resurgence.
HI Laura,
Thanks for your compliments on Felicity’s dress. That white dress was a fun one to make. I thought Felicity looked so pretty in it. I think AG should bring her back…so many people liked her! I’m so glad you are here as a subscriber…you won’t have to miss any more dresses! (If you ever do miss a post, just click on the word BLOG under the heading and it will bring up all the posts…just scroll down and backwards!)
I search for pretty hankies at antique shops too! It seems like they would run out eventually but there is always plenty to look at. You mentioned Gunne Sax dresses..I made my wedding dress out of a Gunne Sax pattern.
I’ve seen the pictures of the “prototype” MaryEllen doll by American Girl. I hope she looks like that one. They said she might be different..but the only thing I might hope for is blue eyes. Yes, I know a new decade to sew for. I should be making some dresses now, but haven’t gotten on the stick yet!
Thanks so much for all your comments, Laura,
Blessings, Jeanne
Jeanne, you are the lucky recipient of such nice gifts. Kathie’s card is so cute! Love the hankie. I know you will use those suede scraps for shoes and whatever.
I do love Ten Ping’s outfit. She really looks cheerful in the bright red.
You are encouraging me to attempt to make my Ten Ping something to wear. I have not unwrapped my girl yet. I am on the fence about her. Just not sure if she is for me.
I am quite happy that Linda requested to see the remainder of Felicity’s dress. So very pretty!
HI Jeannie,
Yes, I AM so blessed by Kathie’s (and other’s) gifts!
I”m sorry you are on the fence about Ten Ping…what is it exactly that you’re not sure of? My dream doll in Ruby Red Galleria’s series was Ishara, The Guardian of Fortune, one of the Four Kindergarten dolls. She was an Indian doll (India) and she was drop dead gorgeous. I think she was a limited edition of 40 dolls and is sold out. There is a site that still has her for sale but they are asking $350 for her… I know RRG just came out with 2 new Kindergarten dolls, Miki and Mia and I’m told Ishara and Jar-Lu will be coming out too, just newer versions. I’m torn as to whether I might add Ishara to my collection or not.
Oh this dolly dilemma is tough!
Thanks for your thoughts Jeannie,

Jeanne, what a perfect outfit to go with the shoes. I do think, though, that most people do it the other way around. They have an outfit, THEN they go shopping for shoes to go with. lol I hope the shoe pattern I sent you will work well with the ultra-suede.
Are the locusts gone?
HI Jevne,
You’re right…it’s generally outfit first, then shoes…
I’m hoping your shoe pattern gives me some guidelines too!
No, the locusts are on everything…in fact, the last 2 times my hubby has come in they have been attached to him, chirping as he walked in…ICK again! They get on his back and hitch a free ride in the house! They are covering our holly bushes we have all around our house. I’m going to take a broom after them today and knock them all off…it might be a waste of time as I assume they’ll just get back up on them, but I’m going to try!
Thanks Jevne,
Blessings, Jeanne
HI Jeanne,
I do love my Hallmark Card Program….glad you liked yours! Gosh..that dress should give you a bazillion pairs of shoes LOL! When Ultrasuede was at it’s most popular we used it by the bolt where I worked..and it was 40.00/yd wholesale! So many beautiful colors and it’s almost indestructible and can be washed on gentle ( no dryer though 🙂
Have fun experimenting!
HI Kathie,
Thank you again… yes, I plan on experimenting a LOT! This will be fun and then when I get my pattern just perfect, I’ll cut into your Ultrasuede. I showed it to my hubby yesterday and had no idea how much Ultrasuede was… I told him $20/yard! Yikes… I better treat those scraps you sent me like they were gold!
Thanks again,
Blessings, Jeanne
I believe the tight corset is why in antique stores you will find what is called fainting couches. I was a tour guide in a 1900 Queen Ann house and I had to explain a fainting couch to the many school groups that we had come through. Perhaps this is when the expression swoon came to be used also.
Terrific find with the red dress. Vests and hats can be made with it too. In making shoes, folding over the insole to glue, I found ultrasuede stretches easily.
HI Jan,
I guess my sister was in need of a “fainting couch!” I was thinking the same thing about swoon myself, but didn’t say anything because I wasn’t sure.
Yes, I plan on making plenty from that dress. Thanks for the tips about the shoes… I can’t wait to try it!
Blessings, Jeanne
