Molly has a birthday coming up on April 22nd. When my sister found out that the Molly dolls actual birthday was on that day, she HAD to get her daughter a Molly doll. You see, her daughter’s name is Molly AND her birthday is April 22nd TOO! How cool is that?
Molly’s dress is all finished and listed on Ebay. You can click on the picture at the right side bar or click HERE. It was one of those dresses that just went together flawlessly… everything went just as planned and that made me very happy. I think it truly looks like something from the 1940’s.
In case you missed yesterday’s post, here is the picture I used for inspiration from a 1946 Sears catalog…
This is how mine turned out…I like the back as much as the front too. That’s always a good thing.
Here are a couple of close up shots of the bodice. It’s very soft fabric and the ruffles turned out just like I hoped they would.
The slip I made from tulle really holds the dress out and even though not authentic to the 40’s, it’s what Molly wanted.
With a new dress, Molly needed some new socks, so they are included too, along with her hair tie.
Here’s the final look. Isn’t she sweet? Speaking of sweet, you’ll have to read my auction and see what else the winner of this dress
might receive because of Molly’s birthday party celebration.
Thanks for taking a peek…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, that dress turned out so sweet for Molly! I think any little girl would like a dress like that no matter if it was 1944 or 2014! It has a timeless look to it and I love the twirly skirt! How neat that your niece has Molly’s name AND birthday! Does she still collect for Molly?
I remember, too, that birthday parties long ago were much different affairs than they are now. Yes, we dressed up and played games, but it was more of a home affair with our own decorations. Seemed more fun to me than just going to some “party place”, but those days are long gone now. I guess most mother’s work and don’t have the time–or patience!
I love the fact that I do have a Molly doll and can remember all the fun times I had as a child! I think it even makes me feel young again!!
HI Linda,
I kind of thought the same thing… that the dress looks timeless. I would have loved to have one like that when I was little. Yes, birthday parties are no big deal now…and most likely there would be “designer” jeans more so than pretty dresses.
No Molly is married now and her doll has gone by the wayside. Maybe some day she’ll get the “itch” like her Aunt Jeanne did and get her out again.
I think dolls bring out the child in us too. I’ve gotten over the fact that I have dolls in my house that everyone can see. When I tell them some of the prices I’ve gotten for some of the dresses I’ve made…they suddenly don’t think my “hobby” is so silly anymore.
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
She looks very sweet in it Jeanne.
Thanks so much Christine,
I like her in this pink dress very much too. Last night I was having trouble with getting my pictures loaded on Ebay, so I had to call technical support. The lady that helped me didn’t know anything about the American Girl dolls, but she commented on my listing and thought Molly looked like a real little girl. It put a smile on my face that she liked my dress.
Blessings, Jeanne
Hi Jeanne. That is a crazy coincidence that your niece is named Molly and shares AG Molly’s birthday! Molly’s dress is wonderful; it looks so much like a birthday party dress from the days when we dressed up for parties. (Ha…I must be old because I have pictures of those dress up days.) Nosy me went to your listing to see what the surprise is…?
We are in for a severe weather day as you probably are too. Stay safe.
HI Cindy,
Old? We’re not old… we play with dolls… we must be YOUNG! Yes, we are!
We are supposed to get our bad weather this evening.. I like it better in the daylight hours, so I can see what’s happening.
You stay safe too.
Blessings, Jeanne
That is so neat that your niece has Molly’s name AND birthday. Well, with a doll I can see her wanting her collection (eBay to the rescue) and I’m sure Aunt Jeanne will be commissioned for some special outfits.. Molly’s dress is so sweet. My mom was a child in the 1940’s and she remembers dressing up for parties. There were really “party dresses” labeled as such. She still has a favorite red taffeta one with a white collar and plaid ribbon.
Last night’s weather was interesting with a downpour and even a minute of hail.
Hope it’s better your way.
HI Laura,
Molly is grown up now and married, so I imagine her Molly doll is in some closet in the box at her mom’s house. Maybe she’ll follow in my footsteps later on and get her back out.
I need to go over to my mom’s house and look through her pictures to see if I can find any pretty “party” dresses that I used to wear. I know pants were almost taboo when I was younger.
We are supposed to get our bad weather this evening…not looking forward to it. We had the same downpour as you did last night too.
You stay safe and dry.
Blessings, Jeanne
Happy Birthday Molly! She is just the cutest doll..her dress is darling
Thank you Regina,
I like it… Molly likes it… You like it… I think we’re three for three!
Blessings, Jeanne
Molly is perfect from her headband to her new socks! What a lucky girl to have a new dress and a birthday the same day. You’re having a party for her aren’t you, Jeanne? She certainly deserves one for all the modeling she’s done for you. And be sure to invite all her friends. They probably don’t have anything to wear so it’s ok if they all come nekki. We’ll be looking for photos tomorrow. lol
Hi Jevne,
A party? You mean I’ve got to plan a party for Molly? Oh dear… let me think on this… but it’s a great idea…
Blessings, Jeanne
Hi Jeanne,
Molly’s dress is just adorable – from top to bottom. It turned out perfect. The pink material is beautiful. And socks too!
How special that your niece’s name is Molly and her birthday is the same as the doll named Molly.
It is so nice to have moisture here at home and RAIN- and loud loud thunder, like last night. The thunder shook the house! It is one thing you don’t get much of in California and I love it. Illinois sounds like it has had lots of rain lately?
Have a great day, Jeanne!!
Hi Paula,
Thanks so much for your sweet comments about Molly’s dress. She likes it and says it is the perfect “party dress.” So I guess I got it right for her.
Yes, we have had our fair share of rain in Illinois. More is coming this evening too. It’s a good thing our house is sort of on a hill, or we might have floated away by now.
Thanks Paula,
Blessings, Jeanne
The pink birthday party dress is PERFECT !! Timeless and true to form. I love these little dresses. I can remember so many birthday parties where all the girls wore a full skirted dress and their best patent leather shoes. Oh, how fun it was!!
I think I will have to make my AG Molly a new dress for her April 22nd birthday.
HI Jeannie,
Thank you very much for your comments on Molly’s birthday dress. At all the birthday parties I went to when I was younger, dresses were the norm…and yes, pretty patent leather shoes!
Jevne, above, suggested I have a birthday party for Molly. I’m not sure I can pull it off, but its’ a cute idea.
Blessings, Jeanne
The pink dress is just so freaking cute! Timeless is right…and we would have had a dress like that for parties…My sister and I were just talking about how we had to wear dresses or skirts. When I worked at the phone company in college we couldn’t even go in on our day off to get our check unless we had a dress or skirt on…
Hi Kathie,
Thank you so much! Yes, things have changed nowadays! Parties aren’t like they used to be.
I used to love to wear sundresses and even when everyone else was in pants, I was in my dress. I loved it.
