Hooray ladies… I have been working on something doll related and I know you are all thrilled! In fact, I decided to do a little “assembly line sewing” today. Do you know what that is? It’s when a seamstress cuts out more than one thing and uses the same color thread so she can sew up several things at the same time. It generally does go quicker when you can sew all the main seams at the same time, then you can iron them all together. When you have your machine on a baste stitch, you can do all of it at the same time, etc.
Well, I was working on a dress for the 13″ Little Darlings, by Dianna Effner. I made the most headway on this first one, being modeled by my dear Isabelle. She is a pink girl and she looks so sweet in this “half dress.” The other half is in the works.
But wait Lian is showing off her partial dress in a pretty green and doesn’t she look lovely?
And not to be left out, here’s Janie in the blue! She wanted the blue because she said it matched her eyes.
Here are all three with half of their dresses finished… aren’t they sweet?
Here are the skirts and the 2 sets of sleeves to be set in.
I’m working as quickly as I can and will let you know when they are all done!
If you’re blessed enough to have more than one Little Darling….these certainly would be sweet for Easter dresses…*hint* *hint*

Soooo pretty, Jeanne! Looks like a basket of Easter eggs! One thing I noticed is that you cut each bodice exactly at the same place on the material! Only somebody who knows what they are doing would do that! Can’t wait to see what the rest of the dresses turn out like! Happy “Almost” Spring!!

You’ll have to look back at the post again…I woke up this morning and realized when I saw the post that I had left out the picture of all 3 of them together. It looks so cute with all of them together…
Yes, I did a little “fussy cutting” on their bodices… that’s when you specifically cut something out with a design placed exactly where you want it. The birds and butterfly weren’t all in a row, so I had to do it a bit off center to get it right.
I hope these dresses will usher in Spring!

Ohh, I so can’t wait until my first Little Darling comes in. These all look like they are going to be so beautiful. Assembly sewing gets so much more work done in half the time. 🙂

Your dresses are adorable. I love how they all match except for the colors which are gorgeous. A group shot of the three girls would be so sweet when the dresses are finished.
This must be the time of year for lots of color. I just finished a dress for Amelia Thimble and I started embroidering teeny tiny roses in Easter egg colors. (Didn’t plan it, it just happened.)

I saw your little Amelia Thimbles’ dress last night, but saw it on my phone and wanted to wait and look at it on my computer before I commented. It was adorable with the waistline decorated like Easter eggs.
I’m hoping today is productive too… now that I’ve got them started, I’ve gotta get them finished!

Jeanne, I learned to do assembly sewing when I was making my kids turtleneck t-shirts back in the 1980’s. MN has those terribly cold winters so a sweater with a turtleneck under it was perfect to stay warm & cozy. The assembly system sure is great for such projects and for making quilt tops.
I do love that you are making Easter dresses for the girls in such pretty spring colors. Yes, they do look like Easter eggs! I did notice the pretty eyelet at the waist with a gingham bias cord as an added touch. You are so correct when you remind us about the embellishments. Little touches here and there make the difference!

The best word for those precious “dresses to be” is SWEET. The girls look adorable in them. Linda put it in a nut shell ( actually an egg shell) – the girls in their pastel dresses look like little Easter eggs!
I have enough to keep me busy with the American Girls but at some point I would like to look into getting in line for a Little Darlings doll. Lian is my favorite. All three have such precious little faces. The clothes you have made them in the past are too too cute.
