Purses, Purses and more Purses…for dolls, that is…

I love making all the little “extras” that go with the dresses I sew for your dolls. There are lots of accessories you can make to complete the outfits. .. hats, tights, hair bows, sweaters, sashes, shoes, aprons, necklaces, thigh highs, slips, anklets, belts, but one of my very favorite things to make are PURSES! What little girl doesn’t love a purse? I used to make little girls dresses and sell them at my local Farmer’s Market and I always included a hair bow with them, but whenever I added a purse to go with the dress, it was always was a big hit with the little girls! There’s just something fun about having a purse that matches or at least coordinates with your dress.

I was looking through some pictures and realized most of the purses I have made have been for the Dianna Effner 13″ Little Darling dolls. It must be because they look extra adorable with them or maybe I just like that little 1 – 1/2″ size most of them end up being. With Easter coming up I thought I would share some of my “purse” pictures with you. I hope you enjoy them…

  1. Oh, goodness—–what darling purses you have made! Each purse is cuter than the previous one! They really make the dress stand out and turn them into an outfit, versus to being just a dress.

I really like the second picture of Molly with that darling purse! It really does something for the dress, which is so sweet anyway!

Did you crochet that white one with the bunnies on the dress? Very cute!

    1. Thank you Linda,
It’s really fun to make the purses and there are millions of ways to decorate them, so I hardly ever have 2 that are alike.
      I knew you’d like the Molly picture…
Yes, I crocheted that little purse…it was supposed to be a hat, but was too small for the dolls head, so I turned it upside down, ran a silk ribbon through the beading and viola!…a purse!

  2. Just when I think that I must’ve surely seen everything you’ve made you pull out more photos! Your purses are super cute with your dresses. I’ve made little crochet bags, but not the little felt purses. Maybe some day I’ll try one out of felt. Oh, just had a thought… of the little (very sloppy) felt purses that I made for my Barbie dolls. I remember felt was nice because it didn’t need to be hemmed. We didn’t have fleece way back when…
    Have a great day, Jeannie!

    1. Thanks Cindy,
Just when “I” think I’ve run out of things, too, I find more! Thanks for your kind comments. I bet you can crochet little purses in your sleep… with me…not so much! It IS nice working with felt for that reason alone… no edges to finish if you don’t want to.
      Thanks again,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Hi Jeanne,
The purses are really neat and they add to the finishing touch. I love the black and white checked dress with it’s purse. Also that last purse is divine. All of the purses are so cute and well thought out. Thanks for sharing them with us.
Now that is something I wonder if I could make?? Not sure with my lack of sewing abilities but they don’t appear to have too much stitching involved. It would be a nice little project to learn. The girls would love them!

Hope the sun shines soon to brighten up your day!

    1. HI Paula,
I’m sure you could make one… it just takes the tiniest bit of fabric or felt. Then just embellish it with whatever you have.

As far as the sun shining…not today…it’s still pouring down rain and there seems to be no ending as of yet! There is flooding all around our area.
Hope it’s sun shiny where you are!
      Blessings, Jeanne

Love those purses !! As a kid it was extra special when we were allowed to carry a small purse to church or when we went “downtown” to shop. Usually a left over from my older sisters’. I would try to find something useful to put in the purse. A hanky, a penny or nickel, maybe a picture of a friend, my rosary, just something to give the purse a purpose.
I really do like the purses you make to match the dresses. The felt flowers, do-dads and little trinkets add the right touch!

  5. I love the little purses! They really are the perfect accessories for the outfits and perfect for Easter. When I was a little girl, I usually got a new purse for Easter and got to take it to church on Easter morning.
