As you read in a few posts back, (HERE) I have been busy trying to get 2 little girl’s dresses finished for my niece’s wedding. The dresses I’ve been working on aren’t cut out of the “wedding fabric” but are just prototype dresses to verify the fit, but they’ll be used for Easter if they fit as I hope they do. They were made from a new pattern so I needed to see how they fit since I’m making these dresses long distance. I’m in Illinois and the little girls are in Pennsylvania…
I gave the first little girl a choice of 3 fabrics…
…and this is the one she chose and what her dress looked like.
So naturally, I had to give a choice to the second little girl. She’s only 3, so her mama picked out her fabric… want to guess again?
She’s a tiny little thing and barely wears a size 2…but her dress is adorable… at least I think it is…
Instead of “flower buttons” on Nora’s dress, I just did a single cluster of a sheer ribbon with some felt flowers as the waistline accent. It’s just enough with the busyness of the pink cabbage roses print.
The pattern called for a zipper up the back… but I may change it to buttons for the flower girl dresses.
So there you have it…Prototype Dress #2 complete!
I wasn’t the only one doing some sewing today. One of my subscribers sent me this picture of her granddaughter sewing! Grandma was QUITE thrilled!
Here’s Katie Beth concentrating at the sewing machine. Way to teach ’em grandma!!
One of these days, and hopefully soon, I’ll be churning out doll clothes again… thanks for your patience while I take care of a few things that are very important.
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a sweet little dress, Jeanne! It almost looks like a doll dress to me and I’m sure she will love it! How do you pack these dresses so they aren’t a mass of wrinkles?
What a wonderful picture of Katie Beth! So nice to see young people doing something besides looking at their phones or ipads!
HI Linda,
I can’t wait to see if both dresses fit…
The secret to packing with less wrinkles is having a large enough box to spread it out in. I don’t use a huge box, but when I fold it, I try to make sure it’s folded on seams and at the waist if it has one. I use tissue paper to soften the creases a lot of the time. When it arrives, and opened, it should look like something packed in a box from the store.
Yes, I couldn’t resist the pic of Katie… teach them a skill like sewing and they’ll be so much better off than knowing how to play the latest video game… IMHO!
Blessings to you Linda,
~ Jeanne
Oh Jeanne! SO SWEET! So grown up looking! Thank you so much, can’t wait to see them on the girls! I’ll keep you posted. Wedding day getting closer with every detail that gets done! Thanks for being an important part of the special day! Love you:-)
YAY! I’m so happy you like the looks of it. I can’t wait to see them on the girls either. We’ll see how close I came to a perfect fit.
Glad to help out with the dresses! It was fun sewing for little girls again…brought back lots of memories of Farmer’s Market…
Love you, me
The second dress is so pretty too. Maybe we will get to see them on the little flower girls-to-be???
What a precious picture of the little girl sewing for her doll! So sweet!
Hope you have a productively busy day, Jeanne.
Hi Cindy,
I’m hoping we get to see them on the girls…too!
Yes, isn’t that a sweet picture of Katie. I’m hoping she had lots of fun making her little doll outfit.
Thanks Cindy,
Blessings, Jeanne
How nice that the little flower girls will end up with two dresses each.. It’s interesting that both ended up with pink. My daughter had a dress at about four that was like the sunflower print, but with a red background. From the second set of fabrics I would have chosen the daffodils for my daughter if you had been making it for her instead. Being a dark hazel eyed blonde as a child she wore a bunch of yellow from pale to sunny. i remember the Easter dress with Lilies of the Valley all over it. I have to dig that one out and see it again. Can’t wait to see the final flower girl dresses as well.
So sweet to see Katie Beth learning to sew. It reminds me of the summers when my grandmother would sew babydoll pajamas, dresses and nightgowns for my favorite doll.
The snow is finally starting to melt and the sun is out 🙂 here in Ohio. Hopefully the weather is improving in Illinois as well.
HI Laura,
I sent the picture of the fabric choices to my sister and everyone had their favorites… the yellow was chosen by my nephew, of course, his vote didn’t count, but it got picked! It’s a very pretty yellow print…not all yellows are that appealing.
You’ll have to find that dress and do a little trip down memory lane…
I think everyone who sews or learned to sew from a grandma teaching them was touched by Katie’s picture.
The sun is shining today but it’s still very cold and we’re supposed to be in the teens on Thursday or Friday… BBBRRRR…. where is Spring?
Thanks Laura,
Blessings, Jeanne
Darling choice for the little girls dress..yes, awesome idea to make the sample actually a wearable dress! They will have such a good time!
Special dresses are worth keeping too…last week my 15 yr old granddaughter asked if I had any dresses from the 60’s. She needed one for the HS musical…I had one…my HS graduation dress. She showed me pics her musical director had chosen off Pintrest and I had to laugh…one was exactly the same as the dress I had. She is thrilled and so am I..can’t wait for the musical!
HI Kathie,
I certainly didn’t want there to be some big mistake on the dresses, so making the “pre” dresses seemed the best thing to do.
That’s so neat about your dress being “featured” on Pinterest. I bet your granddaughter tells everyone where “her” dress came from. Have fun watching your old dress “twirl!”
Blessings, Jeanne
Hi Jeanne,
What darling dresses the photo types are for your nieces. They will love them and then to know they are getting another dress for the wedding, how exciting.
I admire Katie for sewing or any young girl learning that craft. I was never interested in sewing but I loved what my mother sewed for me, including doll clothes. Instead my girlfriend (who collected dolls later in life too) and I had some old gowns and hats my mother gave us to dress up in…oh such dramatic stories we would make up as we pranced around in our castles!!
HI Paula,
Thanks so much for your compliments on the girls dresses. Let’s just hope they fit now. It was really fun sewing again for little girls. I did it for SO many years in the past.
Everyone can’t sew…then who would the sewers sell their clothes too? We have to have sewers and dancers and actresses! Something for everyone!
Thanks Paula,
Blessings, Jeanne
