“Here a Chick, There a Chick” Easter Dress ~ Fit’s 13″ Effner Little Darlings

Three CHEERS for me! I managed to get the dress finished and listed on Ebay! It turned out more adorable than I thought it would. I’m not a super huge fan of yellow fabrics, but when I paired this one with that tiny micro check in the black and white, somehow it toned down the yellow.

If you click on the pictures, they will enlarge somewhat.

Here’s the “before I was finished” picture….As I mentioned in the Ebay listing, the “chicks” fabric looks a bit greenish in some of my pictures. Let me assure you, it’s bright canary yellow in person.

…and a few “after” pictures…much better, don’t you think?

I started out only with pictures of Janie in the dress, but Lian saw what we were doing and she wanted to be in on the action… that line about “all the black haired dolls” got me again. So if you haven’t looked at the Ebay listing yet, you’ll see what I mean near the end of it. That little Lian is PRETTY sneaky!

Here are a few shots of Lian in the dress:

I hope you’ll click on that side bar and see the listing in its entirety.

If you happen to read my blog posts from your email, you won’t see that side bar, but you can click on the “BLUE” title of the post for that day and it will take you to my website/blog. I didn’t know if you all knew that or not.

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Oh, how absolutely adorable that dress is on Janie! And that hat!!! It “makes” the outfit! Then while scrolling down, I see Lian jumped into the action, and I thought to myself, that is what happens here when I have Ivy! She literally begs to be dressed in the other dolls outfits, and she rocks them—and some! Most people think of dolls as beautiful, blondes, with long, curly hair, sitting or standing demurely, batting long eyelashes, but then someone like Ivy comes along with her sweet Asian face and blunt black hair-cut, and she just melts your heart! She’s going to be all ruffles and pink for Easter!

No snow here the other day—in fact, it was gorgeous out and I spent most of the day working in the yard. Just loved it! Those poor Chicago people!!

    1. Yes, Linda, we poor Chicago (area) people! It rained in the night, though, and is mostly gone this morning. I hope that is the last of it! Will we get to see Ivy in her pink ruffles?

    2. Good Morning Linda,
Thanks for the compliments on Janie’s (or Lian’s) new Easter dress. I’m glad I’m not the only one who has “girls” who like to be in on the action…or in this case “the auction!”

It was fairly nice here, but we got rain through the late afternoon with lots of thunder. Today is bright and sunny! I saw my hubby had a lawn mower out yesterday…I’m assuming he’s just checking it over for a Spring checkup…

    1. Thank you Christine,
I’m glad you like it…Do you have Little Darlings yourself?
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Both Lian and Janie look equally adorable in your new dress, Jeanne. The yellow hat you made ties everything together. It’s the perfect choice. I didn’t notice the little buttons on the sleeves until I went to the listing, too cute. And, of course, the chicks are perfect for this outfit. Any little girl, or doll would have such a fun Easter wearing something so cute! I can see why there’s a bit of arguing going on about who gets to do the modeling.

    1. Thanks Cindy,
It’s so much fun making sweet little girls dresses. I’m so glad it’s what I get to do. Thanks for your kind words about the dress.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. The hat and the chicks in the nest really finished it off, Jeanne, I love those hats you make. The outfit looks really cute on both girls. I hope you realize, however, those cute little yellow chicks will only be cute for a few days and then they’ll start growing feathers. lol I think lots of parents are sucked in at Easter with baby chicks and baby bunnies and then are surprised how fast they grow
I’m sure your chicks will still be cute by Sunday, you can ship quickly, and then they will be someone else’s problem. (smile)

    1. HI Jevne,
Thanks so much for your comments on Janie’s/Lian’s Easter dress.

Yes, I know about those baby chicks and baby bunnies. We have a store that sells them around Easter and when I see someone buying one for their little child, I often wonder how long it will be before the newness wears off and the little thing becomes big and is unloved!
We raise little baby chicks about every other year and it’s really fun to see them grow.
I’m glad you brought up the shipping thing to me… If I get the pink bunnies dress finished, I need to list it as a 3 day listing to make sure it gets there in time for Easter.
      Thanks Jevne,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. That dress is adorable on Janie!! I love the hat with it. So cute, your comment on dolly quarrels. I don’t have that problem. :-)Felicity has her own wardrobe and Samantha and Nellie share happily. I do find that some clothes looks just as lovely on Samantha dark hair as Nellie’s strawberry blonde.
My daughter has Kit and I can picture a chicks dress on her because AG made that “Chicken Keeping Outfit” for her. Did you find that fabric at Jo Ann’s? I might try to grab a piece to sew a dress later.

    1. HI Laura,
Thanks for your kind words about the Easter dress! I do appreciate them.

As far as the fabric goes, I’ve had it tucked away for years…the pink bunnies too… and I have no idea where I got it. It does have Hip Hoppity Happy Easter on the selvage.
      Thanks again Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Hi Jeanne,

    Greetings from The London Bridge!
Love, love, love this baby chick outfit and the girls look adorable in it. The detail is over the top. I just have to get a Little Darlings doll so I can get some of your Little Darling outfits.
Enjoyed reading your blog today and everyone’s messages.
    Have a great day!

    1. Thanks Paula,
If you can find one of these Little Darlings you won’t be sorry. It’s too bad the wait to have one painted is so long…over a year for the handful of artists trained by Dianna Effner. They are just the most childlike dolls you have ever seen. I love sewing for them!
Thanks for being a wonderful reader and friend…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. She looks so sophisticated in the yellow and black for Easter..It’s a whole new look!
I used that teeny rick rack in my Easter swap dress..only buried it in the seams. That practically took a magnifying glass to see if I was stitching in the right place!
I did the 2 rows of gathering stitches you advised me to do, and the skirt looks MUCH nicer where it is attached. Thank you!!

    1. Thank you Regina. I can’t decide who looks the best in it. I better not say, or they both might be mad at me…
      Blessings, Jeanne
