I missed one doll dress… Helen Kish’s Wren Pistachio in “The Sweetest Valentine”

I can’t believe I missed this Valentine’s Day dress called “The Sweetest Valentine” from 2009. It was for my Wren doll, by Helen Kish. She is from the Chrysalis Collection and is 14″ tall. It was always fun to have her holding something in her arms because she posed so well. This dress was sweet to make. It started with a vintage hankie that I won off Ebay. I remember the name of it was “Love Letters.” I’m not sure, but I’m assuming the seller just gave it that name, like I give my listings names.

Wren’s darling little dress was made from a red and white micro check cotton and then I added the vintage hankie at the waist. A little bit of hand work in green with some shiny red heart buttons was done on the bodice and after I fashioned some ruffled sleeves, I decided to stop. A bow in her hair and a teddy bear to hold was all that was needed. I no longer have Wren…it was HARD to let her go, but I’d like to share those sweet Valentine pictures of her with you…

  1. So sweet Jeanne, I love how you embellished it and the hankie is perfect! So cute! So Valentine perfect! Don’t stress over your party:-)

    1. Morning Cindy,
The party is all planned…just waiting for Thursday night. I still have to bake some cookies for my favor bags….AND figure out what to wear…now that’s the stressful part!
      Love you, Me

  2. Your dresses are always such a lovely fit! Today’s dress is no exception! Yesterday I received the sweet lace gloves with pearls that I won in the drawing for subscribers–they are precious and fit my AGs beautifully. Thank you again for your generosity and thoughtfulness.

    1. Hi Kathryn,
Thank you for your sweet comments about the gloves you won in the last giveaway! It was my pleasure to send them to you and I hope your “girls” enjoy them!
Thanks for being a subscriber and reading my thoughts each day! I appreciate it.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. I don’t remember that dress either, Jeanne. It is so sweet, simple, and perfect. I love the Valentine’s Day hankie you found for it.
Hope you have a productive day today.

    1. Thank you Cindy,
I can’t believe I forgot this one either. I wish I had a big poster board with all my pictures on it so I could scan the board and pick what I needed. I have them all over my computer,
“my documents” “documents” “my pictures” “backup” and sometimes I miss one of those categories when I’m looking for pics. Do you have something like Carbonite Cindy for all your pictures? I’m thinking of getting something like that because if I lost my pictures, I guess I would have no blog anymore…. :o(

      1. I use an external hard drive to back up my entire laptop. It’s a manual operation so it is possible to lose recent photos that were taken between a backup and when the loss occurred. (I’m knocking on wood right now.) I try to keep up with it as it doesn’t take very long. It’s just a matter of plugging it in and starting it. But, yes, that would be awful to lose my photos because it’s all I have of my work. What would be worse though, is losing my patterns and knitting notes. (Knocking on wood again.)

        1. HI Cindy,
I’m right there with you about the patterns… I’ve spent so much time tweaking them they would be a terrible thing to lose! My patterns aren’t on my computer, but in notebooks, so if there is ever a fire, I’d be sunk…
I’m really considering some kind of back up. I do have an external hard drive but again, if I had a fire, it would go up in smoke too. … just thinking ahead…

  4. Oh gosh, Jeanne, you were NOT there when I checked very early this morning, and I couldn’t imagine what horrible thing must have happened!!
    I see all is well!

Oh, that is a darling dress! I remember getting hankies for every holiday and no particular holiday! We never really used them, but I wish I had saved mine. Does anyone remember those birthday cards with a hankie for each day of the week?

I love the way you embellish those dresses! You seem to have a trick up your sleeve for everything you make!!

    1. Hi Linda,
I think my “time” was off when I didn’t have it set to the right time zone and when I changed it and corrected it yesterday it must have changed that too. I’ll move it back some so you can see the post when you get up in the wee hours of the morning…
I remember those hankies too. My grandma always had them in her purse as well… just a thing of the past nowadays!
      Thanks for your sweet comments,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, this dress is just perfect in every way. Totally Valentine so I have to say I am happy it is set all by itself on this blog. I love the Chrysalis dolls so much. This dress is as sweet as the look on Wren’s face. The ribbon embroidery just sets off the vintage hanky.
I too remember having wonderful hankies for all occasions. Along with my white gloves, hat and prayer book on Sunday, a hanky was mandatory!
I had Chrysalis Piper but had to sell her last year. Someday I hope to have her back!

    1. Hi Jeannie,
Thank you for your nice words about Wren’s dress. She was my first “articulated” doll and I still remember the day she arrived… I was in heaven posing her. It was a hard move to sell her and as I look at her in these pictures, I wonder how I ever could have…
I hope you find your Piper again some day… who knows…maybe Wren will come back to me.
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. Thank you Jane,
