I just HAD to get out of the house today! The snow and ice has had me pinned inside for days on end, but today I broke free and headed to town. After all, I HAD to mail that sweet little prototype dress at the Post Office and we sold 3 Skinny Scarves from our Etsy Shop last night, so they needed to be mailed too.
I had a few errands and met with a friend earlier, but when I was done, guess where my car headed?….Hobby Lobby and JoAnn Fabrics! It had been so long since I was out, I just enjoyed myself walking up and down the aisles looking at everything. I didn’t really need anything but wound up buying a few things anyway.
I made it out of JoAnn Fabrics with only 2 fat quarters…that’s gotta be a record for me!! They are more purple than they look in my photos. When I saw this particular print, I immediately thought of a pretty Spring Civil War dress. I think it will turn out lovely.
Then I went to Hobby Lobby where I found a few more things. Here’s my stash all in one shot but I’ll tell you about them.
Buttons…seriously; she bought more buttons? Yes, she did! They WERE half price…I had to! (I think I may have a button fettish…) but these called out to me. I love the enameled square ones in black and gray. I’m pretty sure they are metal as they are slightly heavy. I think they will make beautiful Civil War brooches at the neckline of some stylish dress. The cream buttons looked sort of old fashioned and not too “plastic-y” for historical dresses. The white smaller buttons were a different style than the white ones I normally buy, so I HAD to give them a try.
All of the Valentine items were drastically on clearance… I think 80% off. I use LOTS of stickers inside my boxes when I pack up my doll dresses; on the outside next to my labels on my packages, on my smaller envelopes with doll gloves inside them…you get the message… I use lots of stickers. I thought these were sweet, so I’ll file them away in my stickers box and be all set for next year’s Valentine boxes.
Okay, now to my favorite find of the day. The last time I was in Hobby Lobby, they didn’t have these cute little shoes and boots in there. I saw these and almost did a double take. The little reddish shoes are SO cute and they fit my American Girl dolls feet really well. I think you could lace a ribbon in the holes and change them up a bit. They were only $4.99 so I was thrilled.
The brown cowgirl boots are adorable too. I love them. They were $4.99 as well and I used my 40% off coupon on them. They fit very nicely too and have a velcro strip up the back for easy off and on. I’m anxious to make something “western-y” now.
There were a lot of empty places for other shoes, so they must be carrying some new things that I just saw for the first time today. I’ll have to go back in a week or so and see if they have restocked the missing shoes.
All in all, I was very pleased with my new goodies, but it was just especially nice to get out and see something besides the inside of my house.
Have a wonderful weekend,
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Jeanne, I sure do understand the housebound feeling!! Though I know we are not the only ones across the country with all the excessive snow, ice and cold. I just hope everyone is safe and have enough stock in their pantry to hold off on trips to the grocery for milk and bread.
Of course a trip to the fabric store is another matter. Being able to use the coupons issued during a particular week is simply a “have to” !!
The two fat quarters you chose are quite cute. I look forward to seeing the end result in a Civil War style dress. Now to the boots and little shoes – so very stylish! Being from TX I wear boots often with just about any style of clothing. I even put on a pair at my son’s wedding in Boston when the DJ cranked up the music for the Cotton Eyed Joe ! Boots for our AG’s is a fashion YES !!!
HI Jeannie,
Of course….the fabric store is a “priority!” It’s unheard of to let “coupons” expire, isn’t it? I think the little boots will work for several of my dolls and look forward to seeing that myself. Thanks so much Jeannie,
Blessings, Jeanne
I’m due for a trip to the fabric store as well, but with moving to our new house in less than 2 weeks, it can wait. LOL Our closest Hobby Lobby is like 3 hours away and I have not made it there yet. Hopefully soon, as from the looks of your goodies, they have so many different things from what I can get here. I love the color of the fat quarters and can’t wait to see the dress that you make from them. 🙂
Hi Christine,
It sounds like you have your hands full with moving, but after you are settled in, treat yourself to that drive to Hobby Lobby or even just to the closest fabric store. I’m sure you’ll feel like you deserve it by the time you get all those boxes unloaded.
Thank you,
Blessings, Jeanne
Hi Jeanne,
Excellent choices in all items. Of course, the material for a Civil War era dress is perfect!
I had no idea Hobby Lobby had shoes that fit the American Girls- will definitely have to check that out.
Glad you got out for awhile and enjoyed yourself at the stores. Even though it’s cold out, there’s nothing like a breath of fresh air.
I understand there is suppose to be 6 or so inches of snow on its way back home. Is your area going to be hit? Hope Winter starts thinking about giving way to Spring.
Enjoy your day and all your new goodies!!
Hi Paula,
I’m glad you liked all my “goodies” from my shopping spree. It was VERY nice to just have the afternoon to myself with no real agenda.
I’m not certain what our future forecast is…I’m just trying to hold out for Spring too.
I picked up your “past treats” for the “past dresses” you bought and will get them on their way to you Monday. I hope you like them!!
Thank you Paula,
Blessings, Jeanne
