This is the latest I’ve ever gotten my post written. It’s 1:05 Saturday morning, but I was determined nothing was going to keep me from writing about something. I was working on a sewing project and a birthday party for tomorrow night. I have a big Married Couple’s Valentine Party on Thursday evening too, so my time is being eaten up by “stuff” and I’m not getting much sewing done for Valentine’s Day. In fact, now that it’s the weekend, I’m guessing I might as well call it quits for this year and “pink” Valentine dresses. It wasn’t the way I had hoped the holiday would turn out, but it just did. I think I almost need to be like magazine writers… they work on Christmas issues in July and Summer projects in December. They are 6 months ahead… boy, wouldn’t that be nice! Maybe another year…
I wanted to show you something I received from 2 of my subscribers. The first pictures are of some netting/tulle that I bought from Sissy. It is iridescent and has little bows all across the fabric. The fabric is very soft and it will make wonderful slips for my dolls. I just love how it glimmers in the light. Thanks so much for offering it Sissy!
The second thing I wanted to share with you was some vintage pieces of lace one of my subscribers sent me. Kathie said she thought I could use these on some American Girl doll clothes and she’s right! They will be great as they aren’t “brand spanking new” and will look wonderful on something for Kirsten or Felicity! I love the wide white eyelet fabric and think it will add something really special to one of my dresses! Thank YOU Kathie for this wonderful gift!
Last of all is something “I” bought for myself. I saw this remnant of red curly fur and “since I don’t have the red color” I decided I couldn’t live without it. I think a red fur coat would be darling out of it. The pattern caught my eye because of the neckline on the pink dress and also the cape. I like how the dolls arms can come through the openings. And last… I found another spool of sparkle tulle in a slightly different shade of pink and this one has G-L-I-T-T-E-R! OOOooooo…. we LOVE glitter don’t we? More slips are on the way!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
There are sooo many patterns for AG dolls. Your new one is so cute as is your fabric and your “gifts” of tulle and lace.
I still need to work on a slip using your tutorial. I found my “reject in red”. No wonder it didn’t work. I only used 1 layer of tulle and the length was nowhere near 48″. It looks pathetic.
Have a great weekend, Jeanne!
HI Cindy,
I was wondering about your dolly slip and if it ever came to be. Yes, one layer of tulle makes for some BIG headaches! I hope your new 3 or 4 layered slip is a success!
There are LOTS of patterns for the 18″ dolls and one can almost “collect” patterns and never get around to using them… hopefully NOT me!
Blessings, Jeanne
Jeanne, I do hope you slept like a log last night! You surely deserved it.
Your new pattern for AG dolls is wonderful. If you make the cape out of that wonderful red fur it will be a terrific hit. How cute is that??? Anything retro or vintage is just my style so your pattern and all the lovely “new” laces will be put to good use. I can’t wait to see what your designer’s mind comes up with !! Molly will be decked out in finery.
Kathie is very special with her super “finds” as I have too been blessed with a few surprise packages from her. We, in the doll world are so blessed to have such giving and caring friends.
I hope the Valentine party you are planning is a wonderful success!!!
Hi Jeannie,
Actually I got in bed at 2:25 but my mind wouldn’t turn off, so it was 4:49 and I was still awake! ARRRGG…. But now it’s 8:59 a.m. and it’s time to get going.
Isn’t that pattern cute. I think it’s a bit plain on the pattern front, but I think with the right fabrics, the dresses will be really sweet looking.
We ARE blessed to have Kathie and a few others like her in the doll world and yes, the friends I’ve met are just out of this world!
Party….yes, one tonight and one on Thursday…then I’m going to get back to my routine…
I have a couple of little flower girl dresses I have to get to!!!
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, such beautiful laces and netting! I can’t wait to see what you do with them! I also have a lot of vintage laces and crochet pieces left from my mother in law, but they are for dressers, arms of chairs, back of the couch’s, things like that , which nobody does anymore, but I don’t feel right just throwing them out. Somebody lovingly made and used them, so they stay in a drawer for now taking up space! I also have some vintage lace pieces for clothes, but they are too big for doll clothes. Oh well.
My goodness, you are going to sleep when I get up! I wake up around 2:00 a.m., and FORCE myself to stay in bed another hour! I just can’t wait to get up and get going! Of course, I am no good for much in the evening, but sitting around and watching TV, if there is anything good on!
That doll pattern is really a good one. You can do a lot with it, and knowing you, you can add extra things onto the various dresses. A lot can be done with a good basic pattern, and this looks to be a good one! I like how the waistline drops down to a point in front. Is this a new pattern or an older one? I may try to find a pattern that would work for some dresses for my 40’sdolls. I haven’t made a doll dress in years–well, not since my daughter had dolls in the 70’s! That’s a long time!
Hi Linda,
I can’t wait to find some TIME to use them either!!! I have lots of doilies and fancy scarves for dresses too…mine were from my MIL too! I use some of them on some antique tables I have…but most of mine are like yours, tucked away…
I can’t believe you get up at 3am! You must certainly get a lot accomplished in a day! Way more than I do!
The pattern is a new one, but made to look like it’s from the late 40’s. It would be a good “starter” pattern to get you back in the sewing mood! You’ll have to let me know if you get it and what you make from it.
Blessings, Jeanne
I have used parts of old linens for things like large collars on doll dresses. I’ve made cloth dolls and used small embroidered doilies (such as were used on those old-fashioned dressing tables back in the 40s and 50s) for the collars on 2 or 3 of them. I don’t want to cut up my own linens, though, so I got thrift store shopping!
Some bigger pieces can be used for aprons or even petticoats. The thing is–you have to be willing to cut into them!! LOL Sometimes that’s the hardest part, making that first cut.
Glad you think the eyelets and laces will work on the historical dolls…A good soak in Biz will help them too
Cape pattern is super cute!
Hi Kathie,
YES< they'll work! I have every confidence they will! Now, it's finding some time to figure out when to do it! I will soak them in some BIZ to get them snow white! Thank you again Kathie, Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, I like that pattern! I don’t think I have that one…….I’ll have to look for it next time I go to Hancocks or Joanns. The vintage lace is very pretty. I’ll be interested to see what you do with it. On thing for sure, you’ll come up with something lovely! I didn’t read your post from a few days ago until tonight, but I just have to tell you how much I like the Molly valentine dress. That has got to be one of my favorites!
Thank you Carolyn,
It’s a new pattern out that is a retro 1946 pattern. I think it has some cute possibilities and can’t wait to try something from it. Yes, my new/old laces are lovely and my historical girls are eyeing them!
Thanks for your compliments on Molly’s Valentine dress. It was fun to make.
Blessings, Jeanne
I thought I had every AG pattern I would ever need, but now I’m re-thinking that idea! This one is just so cute!! I love the little basque waist on the dress.
